Kennel Club Code of Ethics

The NEW Kennel Club Code of Ethics (see Oct 6th) has caused comment. This Code has gone to all breed clubs and by early December the KC expect a meeting to have been held, a Health Policy formed, and thoughts to be back with them.

Obvious things that have been pointed out is the non culling of puppies and the clause that reads “Will agree not to breed from a dog or bitch which could be in any way harmful to the dog or to the breed”

There are currently far too many dogs requiring homes but if your bitch has a multi litter you are now TOLD you must keep them all and forget any animal welfare concerns for a bitch rearing a dozen puppies and the chance of succesfully homing them. Good Move Kennel Club

Glen of Imaal Terriers have PRA. Many Glen owners are raising funds for a gene marker but we DON’T have it. Therefore, if the Code of Ethics is taken literally, no Glens can be bred until the gene marker arrives because it is known there is a chance of PRA for any Glen born without the benefit of tested parents.
