One has left us.

Last October the 15th birthday of three Glen of Imaal Terriers from the same litter was celebrated. Over Christmas it became two as Veronica heard the call of the Rainbow Bridge and left Murphy and Soldier to be “just the brothers”.

Veronica was an early traveller to America and that young puppy was certainly treated well. The airline passengers were wondering what the hold up to take off was? Veronica’s travelling humans knew as they watched her travelling box being wheeled to the plane. The same happened on arrival; the plane people sat as Veronica was taken off first! Later on in life her human returned to Ireland and it was unthinkable that Veronica wouldn’t get her passport out again. All her journeying meant she wasn’t worried by the final one as there is always somebody there at the other end.

There still seems to be different types of Glens, some heads could be stronger,  one or two mouths not right which is something to be watched easy to get not so easy to get rid of.  Some fronts turn out rather more than I would like, some dogs lacked hind angulation and with the KC wanting dogs fit for purpose these things must be kept an eye on

Westminster entry

As Crufts closes the Westminster entry becomes known. Anybody attending the big American Kennel Club Show can expect to see seven Glen of Imaal Terriers. They will be:-

Ch Rainbow Springs Dermot RE NJP,

Ch Daulton’s Hunter Green,

Ch Daulton’s Maeve Of Cill Dara,

Ch Finnabair Roisin O Tipperary,

Ch Finnabair Rocket’s Red Glare,

Ch Rainbow Springs Kylee of Cnoc

Ch Coleraine’s Mandalay Royalty

For the pedigree buffs it is an interesting selection of dogs. Dermot and Kylee are half brother and sister via their dam and Kylee is also half sister to Mandalay Royalty via the sire. Maeve and Hunter’s Green are also half-siblings via their sire and Roisin and Rocket’s Red Glare are brother and sister but a year apart.

South of England take notice please!

Worrying news today that there appears to be a dog stealing gang working in the south of England and 5 Ridgebacks have recently been stolen. 3 bitches were stolen from a farm in Bolney, Sussex at around 4.30 in the afternoon (unfortunately the cctv was not able to make much out due to the low light levels), a male Ridgeback is missing from Lewis in Sussex, and the Dog Warden in Sussex says another was stolen from Burgess Hill. Can you all please circulate this and, those in the Sussex area, can you please advise all the locals vets, rescue centres etc. in the hope that these dogs can be found and returned to their rightful homes as soon as possible.

Snow is everywhere

All this snow is very pretty indeed. Have a look at the snowman that was photographed in Barnsley; yes, that is a wheelie bin on his shoulder!

Crufts entries close TOMORROW

If you still like to place a stamp on an envelope entries close tomorrow for Crufts (or DFS Crufts as it seems to be called now) but there is still another week for on-line entries. Judge of Glen of Imaal Terriers on Friday March 12th will be Harold Gay, awarding his first set of Challenge Certificates in the breed…..33 years after he first owned one and generally acknowledged worldwide as somebody who “knows his stuff”. He has judged Glens previously at Crufts in 2001.

The Kennel Club requests:-

“The Kennel Club has made a commitment to helping to ensure all prospective puppy buyers only buy from a responsible breeder and we would like to provide further information on our website for buyers as to the rough price of a pedigree puppy in each breed and what they should expect to spend if they are buying from a good breeder.  The aim is to try to stop puppy buyers going to the ‘cheapest’ seller who may well be a puppy farmer – this can also apply to those charging top prices as we all know.

To this effect we would like to kindly ask you whether as an expert in your breed you could possibly help us by letting us know what the approximate cost of a puppy should be. We understand that costs can be dependant on a number of variables, but we are looking at a basic cost for a prospective owner buying a puppy as a pet.

We would be really grateful if you could help us with this information.”

Obviously this isn’t JUST Glen of Imaal Terriers but all breeds so if you come under the jurisdiction of the KC do speak to your own people!
