Our Greatest Actor

How do you find a name for your Glen of Imaal Terrier? In the case of one called Sky Masterson it was easy, he could only be Brando and right from the very beginning it was obvious he would follow his namesake’s method acting philosophy; always find the deeper psychological approach to inhabiting a character! Most Glens just learn to walk on a lead but not Brando. Why should he walk? What was his inner motivation to do it? What was the meaning to showing? How would he best express the requirement? A dog with brains, a dog with character and a dog to make you scream as he would suddenly stop showing his head off & turn into a heap of nothing because he had lost the feeling for the occasion.

California admired his talent and Brando transplanted to the West Coast of America. Like the great Marlon himself all were captivated by his looks, his charisma, his magnetism and for a while he played the American exhibition ring but again the question arose in his mind-what was the point? But on the boardwalks of Northern San Diego Brando discovered his true forte-he became a beach-bum. Bougainvillea to sniff, ladies to keep you company and a devoted human to pander to your every whim.

Habit never leaves though and the first twinge in his body was possibly analysed, contemplated and decided on as an irrelevant role he didn’t want to play. And he didn’t until the liver cancer was so far advanced that even his great body and mind had to bow to it. The Family now has its first actor in residence as Lora, forever his devoted assistant, held his paw as Brando played the final scene, under the shade of a palm tree with the sun shining overhead.
