Away from the specific Midlands area the M1 is 50 miles an hour from the intersection with the M18 down to the A38 junction due to changing the central barrier-there are often long queues.

There are major roadworks where the A14 joins the M1/M6

A “trial run” was done down from the North East Midlands on Monday morning. It took just short of two and a half hours with a lot of map reading. Somebody (from Nottingham) who relied on their Sat Nav (no map in the car) took three and a half hours. It took the usual one hour forty minutes to return home. It’s obviously the time you travel and the traffic conditions but making sure their is a map in the car may pay dividends!

Also this may be of use. The roads will come up then click on each road. Another set will appear and each one has to be clicked on individually.

For Facebook people there is a group called ‘dog show weather and travel’. Lots of posts on routes to use, conditions at showgrounds from people at shows at The time. Worth joining the group if your a Facebook user.

The KC have negotiated with the highways agency over some of the works planned aroundcthe NEC and this info is added to that group too. Xx

We used to go by train to shows Stephen. As I said easy if its a dog and a bag per person. Once you add additional stuff like trolley, chair (because my Mum can’t stand all day), food (because I’m not taking out a mortgage for a sarnie) and cake (its Crufts I have to bring cake). Plus all the stuff we buy, its impossible.

In the early days Mum and I did everywhere by train from Milton Keynes, Stafford, Blackpool, Manchester, all the Birmingham shows (this involved buses too). We even used to go to Earls Ct to do our stint on discover dogs.

I wish I was going to be one of these people that could turn up at a show with the dog and one little bag, but that’s so not me. 🙂

Safe journey, hope DD is a success. I know you’ll do a great job and let Joe Public know just why we all love these wonderful dogs x
