Bath critique

GLEN OF IMAAL JUDGE BATH 18

PD (1) 1. Hickman’s Romainville Rock a Fella. 7 mths old and maturing nicely, head coming on very well, nice body shape and proportions, just needs a bit more firmer handling to get the best out of him on the move.

LD (1)1. Tobijanski’s Romainville Becks Blue for Zippor. Nice overall size and shape and of good conformation, very good head, neat well carried ears, good bite, well ribbed body, moved very well, lacked coat but his positive virtues could not be denied. Dog CC.

OD (3.1) 1. Hannington’s Boudivella Oscar. Strongly made wheaten dog, nice overall size and shape, just carrying too much coat for me, moved soundly. Res DCC.

2. Alstead’s Ch Golden Spurs. Very good head with correct proportions, good body, let down today by standing too cramped up which spoiled outline, not as positive on the move as 1.

PB (2)1. Tobijanski’s Jeonty Glnis Making Magic for Zippor. Won this class on being more forward and maturity, nice length of body, good coat, moved soundly. Best Puppy.

2. George’s Romainville Rag Doll. Nice type but just needs more time and confidence in the ring.

JB (1)1. Campen’s Romainville Rock’N Rolla at Coedrhosyn. Nice profile with good head and carried well on the move, nice length of body, in good coat, tended to move close front and rear.

PGB (1)1. Studd & Wilson’s Wickholm New Moon. Nice balance, would prefer a little more strength in muzzle, not always using ears to advantage, good length of body, moved a little loose.

LB (4.1)1. Alstead’s Sigrid Helga at Pantacottage. Nice overall size and shape, would prefer head trimmed slightly different to present a more pleasing picture, good front construction, well made body and well set tail, coat Ok, moved soundly. Bitch CC and BOB.

2. George’s Romainville Maggie May. Solidly built but all in balance, carrying ears a little high, good neck and shoulders, in good coat.

3. Hannington’s Boudivella Tegan.

OB (1)1. George’s Romainville Whistle Dixie. Nice outline and lots to admire but not always putting 100% effort in, nice head shape with good expression, in good coat, moved Ok. Res Bitch CC.

VB (1) 1. Sage’s Jeonty Lola Way at Wickholm. 10 yrs old and still holding shape and profile well, good body shape, coat OK, movement a little loose in front.

Oh we were busy!!!

Bank Holiday weekend so extra time for Glen of Imaal Terrier people to go showing and, boy, we sure did! There are a lot of results with a bunch from Scandinavia/Lithuania. If eyes crossed when writing them up just let me know.

Leading in with Bath Championship Show and applause for Sigrid Helga at Pantcottage who was BOB but more importantly it was her 3rd CC. Dog CC went to Romainville Becks Blue for Zippor with Romainville Whistle Dixie and Boudivella Osca taking the respective Reserves. Jeonty Glynis Making Magic For Zippor was Best Puppy & Jeonty Lola May at Wickholm Best Veteran.

The Helsinki Puppy Show saw Finnabair Broc Rua Arda at Gleann be awarded BOB with Meomodo Careless Cuinn Best Opposite. Joensuu International was atriumph for Finnabair North American Nebulon with Rosears Miss Miimos Best Bitch. The places were reversed at Joensuu All Breed Show the next day. Moleti International Dog Show saw Rosears Master of the House Best of Breed and Astoreen Best Opposite. Rauma Dog Show went to Gleann Indico Indy and BOS was Taramont Niamh Tirnan’Og. At the Lithuanian Terrier Club Show Gleann Flatbone Stiubhard was Best with Astoreen Best Bitch. Salo Group Show had Hammersmolles Rocket Saturn getting the nod for the big ribbon.

Finnabair Double D Friend of A Friend just has to lead the American round up with Groups 1 & 3 at back to back Bayou Kennel Club shows & then a Gp1 at Southern Arkansas KC. The Owner Handler Group was also seeing “Glendom” with a Group 1 for Tipperary That Girl at Trumbull County KC, OHG3 at Altoona Area Kennel Association and a repeat OHG3 at Newcastle KC. Holland Michigan Kennel Club saw another Glen Group placing for Abberann Phelan (Gp3) with Kilkenny’s Across The Universe at Setanta taking Best Opposite, the placings were reversed at Grand Rapids Kennel Club. Phelan was again BOB at Kalamazoo KC with Daulton’s Wild Night of Galore Best Opposite, Best owner Handler and OHG4. Hendersonville Kennel Club back to back shows had Kilkenny’s Middleton Irish Spirit taking BOB at both with another BOB at Spartanburg KC with Kilkenny’s Quandarry at Parrsons BOS.

The UK is really the only country that still has a lot of Open Shows and that (to many US & FCI) strange thing known as Varieties. To show a Glen of Imaal Terrier in those classes is to have conviction. Jeonty Dreams A Dream at Karensbrae was at Banff, Moray & Nairn Canine Club and bought home BAVNSC Terrier and G2, she also won Special Terrier Puppy, 1st in junior stakes, 4th in members stakes and 4th in The Mary McCance stakes.

Great going everybody!!

To support the Glen DNA Archive at the Animal Health Trust … and support Glen health … please request a swab kit for your Glen.

Please do not forget to notify the AHT of any changes in your Glen’s health status … and also date & cause of death (including simply old age) when that sad time comes.

If you already have swab kits but haven’t yet got around to swabbing your Glen, please dig out the kit & “do the deed” and get the swabs & documentation sent to the Animal Health Trust as soon as possible, please.

It’s back!!!

Once in a galaxy far, far away a Green Book was born. For many people it was their first introduction to anything written about the Glen of Imaal Terrier. Origin & History, Breed Standard, trimming, choosing a Glen, it was all there and it was very successful. It was freely available to anybody who wanted it because the whole idea was to get the genuine and authentic word out. It was a first in the breed and it was genuinely admired.

Times change though & so do ideas and wants. Everybody became obsessed with the internet & who wanted to read anything on paper? The Green Book acknowledged it was a relic of a time and disappeared into memory.

Retro is again popular though & some Glen folk have long memories. Why don’t you…… So we listened and it’s back. It’s get updated pages, it’s got health, it’s got appeal once more. Are you having a litter & need it for puppy packs? Do you want to send it to people who enquire about Glens? It’s here & it’s available for you. Just let us know.

We love that you are loving the return of a true icon. As it says above it is available  free of charge, it’s being looked on as a service to the breed just like it used to be, and it is for anybody interested in Glens. For folk who have already asked they will be coming out to you after the Bank Holiday weekend. Once you’ve got it a donation wouldn’ be refused if you think it worth it. If you decide you don’t want it offer it to your local library as they like books and leaflets that could be useful

Best Puppy Jeonty Glynis Making Magic for Zippor

I was honoured to judge this breed club show, a great opportunity for me to handle a good number of this relatively rare breed, so a learning curve, as is every judging appointment. Type is varied and sometimes compromises had to be made, some I liked were carrying too much weight which did not help toplines or movement.  The forehand assembly of the breed is a special feature and poses some challenges to get well formed front, with sufficient upper arm and good front action.

Many thanks to my stewards Harold Gary and Miss Tobijnski

PGD (1, 0)

1 Samuel Jeonty Yippee Kiaye 3 years blue dog, very typical in body proportions and outline with sight rise to the loin. Strong head and good jaw and dentition.  Coat a little soft.  Good bone. Needs a little more chest.  Ears a touch heavy.  Sound moving, a little close in front.

LD (2, 1)

1 Tobijanski Romainville Becks Blue for Zippor 2 years blue brindle, excellent proportions, topline and tailset. I’d prefer a little more bone for his size.  Excellent head, eye and dentition.  I would prefer more rear angulation and a little more width in front.

OD (6, 2) Best class of the day for depth of quality and the first 2 very close.

1 Alstead Ch Golden Spurs 4 years I loved his type, proportions, coat and topline.  Scored in quarters and rear movement here.  Lovely head and eye and strongly boned.  Full of type.  I might like a little more upper arm but he pleased me a lot. BIS

2 George Ch Romainville Billy Whizz 5 years he has a very correct head shape with slight taper to the muzzle. Good coat and strong bone.  Correct rise to topline.  I’d prefer a little more angulation to his quarters. BD &RBIS

3 Hannington Boudivella Osca 3 years shorter bodied dog with good coat. Good rear.  His front action could be better.

VD (2, 1)

1 Garner Ch Johnny Be Good at Romainville almost 12 years and enjoying his day. Head of good proportions and has a good coat.  Topline a little slack now and he is a little loose on the move.  Excellent temperament.

PB (4, 3)

1 Tobijanski Jeonty Glynis Making Magic for Zippor 9 months good length to height proportions and good ribcage which needs to drop a little more. Quality feminine head and good eye pigment.  Coat just coming through.  Sound, typical mover.  She needs a little more confidence.  I’d prefer a touch more bone and hope this might develop. BPIS

JB (2, 1)

1 Rogers Jeonty Jyn a New Hope 15 months, she is a very good mover and has good body length with good coat and good rise over the loin. Her skull could be flatter.  Good bone.  Eyes could be a shade darker.

PGB (3, 1)

1 Hannington Boudivella Tegan 2 years old, won on coat and front action here. Could be a little stronger in foreface and a touch more length to her but she carried herself well.  Sound at both ends.

2 George Romainville Izzy Wizzy 2 years a real teenager in the body and dipping in her back on the day. A lovely head and eye and strong bone.  Her front action is disappointing.  Coat needs to harden up.

LB (3, 1)

1 Alstead Sigrid Helga at Pantcottage 2 years blue brindle bitch of excellent type with good body length which could have more rise to the loin. Very good head, ears, coat and movement. BB &BOS

2 Rogers Jeonty Minnie Meme 3 years a little shorter in body not helped by carrying maximum weight. Good bone and sound and typical on the move.

OB (3, 0)

1 George Romainville Maggie May 3 years scored in type and topline here. Could be better in tail carriage but I liked her substance and topline and movement. In the challenge her rear action was not so steady.

2 Rogers Ch Jeonty Meme Fern 5 years same type but carrying too much weight and this shows in her topline. Good chest with slight bow.

3 Sag Ch Wickholm Breaking Dawn 2 years looked a teenager and needs to drop in chest and develop in body. Very good head and eye and ears.  Topline a little flat.  Very good mover. Needs more chest and front legs could be more bow.

VB (4, 2) 2 excellent bitches.

1 Sage Jeonty Lola May at Wickholm 10 years, lovely type, carrying maximum weight which detracts from her topline. Excellent chest.  A very good mover at both ends.  Scored in front action and ears. RBB & BV

2 Samuel Jeonty Red Clover 12 years I loved the type and body shape of this bitch, shown in hard condition and with well-developed topline. Just shows her age a little in her front action.  Good head.  Ears not as neat as winner.

A quieter week…

…but after the hectic run of recent months even the most devoted Glen of Imaal Terrier owner needs a bit of time off.

Scottish Kennel Club is a long run for everybody, even the nearest Scottish exhibitor is 4 hours away, so everybody who goes deserves applause. Abberann Conan, the furthest travelled, once again took Best Veteran and Best of Breed with Reserve Dog going to Boudivella Osca. Bitch CC was Sigrid Helga at Pantcottage and Abberann Reach For The Stars Ryanne in Reserve. Best Puppy was Jeonty Dreams a Dream with Karensbrae.

Over in Scandinavia Rosears Master of the House had a great weekend with BOB at Hamina and Helsinki. Rosears Nugget of Gold was BOS at Hamina and Pearytail Cherry Bomb at Helsinki. Glean Ho Ho Hogan had an even better weekend in many ways with a Gp3 at Lahti Group Show.

love the names of some Kennel Clubs in the States and this week has a couple of beauties. Vacationland KC was a OHG4 placement for Kilkenny’s Granite Glen Rooney and at Magic Valley KC Kilkenny’s Middleton Irish Spirit was BOB at their two shows. And then took Best of Breed and OHG4 at Blennerhassett KC

Congratulations all you people who are very shy this week in the photographic department.
