Welsh Kennel Club critique

GLEN OF IMAAL TERRIER

VD: 1) Multi Champion Abberann Conan, Res CC & Best Veteran. Of course I instrantly recognised this old boy as my BOB at Crufts looked it up and it was 2008, amazing he is still in fine condition 10 years later. His muscle in his hindquarters is quite unbelievable, he is so fit. I much admired his condition & type still. Gorgeous head & eye, a better front than most in the breed. Nails need attention & his coat is very silky now. Such a happy dog moving with such verve.

PD: 1) Borderglens The Edge with Romainville. Two real baby boys! Delightful temperament and beautiful heads, eyes & expressions. The winner more confident moving & slightly better in topline & tail carriage. Both have excellent bone & good hard coats coming along. 2) Teamrach Rock Steady Beat with Romainville. A little taller & needs more ring practice. Good neck, promising rear, but certainly needs time to mature & sort his head out for showing.

LD:) 1) Pajantick Razamataz. Coat rather all over the place & looks very patchy. I would be inclined to pull the whole lot out and start again, looks two-toned at present. A grand dog right through & moves well all round. Good strong legs & super bone. A beautiful head tops it all.

OD: 1) Abberann Cosmic Cowboy CC,BOB. Although lots I preferred about the old boy his coat wasn’t as hard as this younger boy. Strong & very fit. Lovely head & neat ears, which are well set & carried. OK in front, grand bone for his size. Good firm backline, nice over croup. Well made quarters & tailset is good. A powerful impressive mover. Has a collar line round neck which seems to cut his withers & makes him appear flat there.

JB: 1) Jeonty Dreams A Dream with Karensbrae. Good head properties, neat small ears. Fair front & she moves well coming towards. Furnishings too soft, particularly on head. Excellent body for age, well set & carried tail. Powerful build for a junior, if her coat hardens up she will do well in future.

PGB: 1) Romainville Rock’N’Rolla at Coedrhosyn. Probably up to maximum height of 14ins, but she is in balance for height to length proportion. Very strong & sturdily built. Most lovely head & expression, neat ears. Ok in front & rear angles for the breed, moves well all round.

LB: 1) Romainville Maggie May Res CC. 5year old in good form for body & strength. Good firm backline, pleasing head & broad jaw. Ok in front as she is allowed to turn her front feet out a trifle. Sound rear excellent on the move. 2) Amhard Jessie Jay. Good hard head hair & backcoat. Has a nice strong head for a bitch. Fair front, heavy & very overweight in body, she “plods” moving. I liked her a lot & in better condition could do well.

OB: 1) Romainville Whistle Dixie CC. Very out of coat but what was there was hard & workmanlike. Lovely head & expression. Excellent bone & feet, good in body properties and firm topline. Enough rear angulation, well set & carried tail. Good precise mover all ways. 2) Ir Ch Abberann Reach For The Stars Ryanne. Knuckles over in front & too much crook. Otherwise a lovely bitch all through, if her front had been better she would probably have been Best of Breed. I loved her head & body. Correct size for a bitch & so powerful in rear too.

What a First!

Glen of Imaal Terriers triumph in many fields but how about this…..Laura Trainor writes:- Niamh (GCH PACH Niamh of Cnoc CD PCD BN RE MXP9 MXPG MJP7 MJPS PAX2 MFP T2BP JE RATM CGCA TKI) earned her RATCH today at Central Bark. This makes her the first Triple Champion Glen earning Championships in three different disciplines! Just awesome and then Jeff Dairiki writes:- both boys hunted as well as they ever have this weekend at The Club at Argus Ranch’s Barn Hunt trials. Both dogs had a 100% Q-rate through the long weekend! That was just enough for Ciarán to earn his RATCHX6 and Quinn his RATCHX5 in the final trial of the weekend. (Both dogs notched up Crazy 8 titles as well — Ciarán platinum, and Quinn gold.) What a weekend for the breed in other disciplines.

Porvoo All Breed Show in Finland saw Rosears Master of the House BOB with Gleann Una Noonan Best Bitch & Best Veteran. The N.I. Terrier Association Group Championship Show was a Best of Breed for Abberann Cosmic Cowboy and kennelmate Daulton’s Midnight Sky of Galore Best Opposite Sex. London & Home Counties Terrier was where Wickholm Breaking Dawn got the nod over Jeonty Lola May at Wickholm and at Lochabers Jeonty Dreams A Dream with Karensbrae took 5th, and money, in a huge Open Bitch Stakes (not bad at 13 months old) and then won Good Citizens with over 20 in the class…….oh yes and £10. In The States at Umpqua KC Keadeen Second Star To The Right was BOB and she repeated it at South Oregon Kennel Club. The exhibiting biggie of the weekend was Kilkenny’s Across the Universe at Setanta winning the Terrier Group both days in Kenosha Wisconsin and Reserve Best in Show on Saturday.

You all do us so proud.

It might be a Bank Holiday in the UK but elsewhere it’s business as usual!

Glen of Imaal Terriers (and their people) do us all so proud. Going Native to begin with for this week’s round up with “The Circuit” in Ireland. The final three shows were Killarney, Tralee & Limerick. Sigrid Helga at Pantcottage was BOB at Killarney and Limerick and Best Bitch at Tralee where Abberann Cosmic Cowboy was Best of Breed. He was Best Opposite at Limerick. No classes for Glens at Scottish Kennel Club so Jeonty Dreams A Dream with Karensbrae was entered into the Not Separately Classifieds and bought honour to the breed with being awarded Best Bitch.

In Finland the Riihimaki Nordic Show saw Meomodo Boho’s Trick or Treat take Best of Breed. At Vantaa Terrier Specialty Show Gleann Una Noonan was Best of Breed and Best Veteran with Gleann Cotton Cody Best Dog. At Ristiina BOB was Marfidal Devil’s Rock with Marfidal Up To Your Ears Best Opposite.

In America Tipperary Ballyfinboy Liam of Cnoc axed the BOBs at Tioga County & Susque-Nango KC. Kilkenny’s Irish American Classic was in Georgia with Best of Breed at Griffin KC and Sawnee Mountain KC but Best Opposite at Conyers KC and Lawrenceville KC where Ber-D-Mar Sweet William O’Shea was Best of Breed. Hearing news of two new Champions. Subject to AKC confirmation Daulton’s Eli from Emerald Isle and Tipperary Sweet Rosie O’Grady (who took an OHG4 on the day) are now Champions.

Our “brains department” has also been performing. Monique reports that “Ginny performed various exercises around sheep, ducks, and farm equipment the last 2 weekends to be evaluated on how she would behave when exposed to livestock and the sights/sounds/scents of a farm environment. She passed 2 of these tests and is now AKC Farm Dog Certified.” Quinn-Kilkenny’s Love and Happiness-has completed the requirements for the GITCA Master Versatility lifetime award as he can now put CAA CGCA CZ8S RATCHX4 SE TKN after his name. Laura Trainor received the following email:-  CONGRATULATIONS!! I am writing because your above-mentioned dog is listed on the AKC 2018 Agility Invitational Top 15 by Breed report that was published this morning

The two Reserves were Abberann Conan and Romainville Maggie May, so a double double. Jeonty Dreams A Dream of Karensbrae kept the breed flag ably flying with a 1st in the Junior Stakes. The Irish Circuit has begun with the All Terrier and Clonmel. Sigrid Helga at Pantcottage was Best of Breed at both.

In Canada Abberann Derbla has been keeping the breed flag flying with Gp3 at both Kilbride & District & St Catharines & District and Gp2 & 4 at Grey-Bruce Kennel Club (another great name). And first in this week goes to……

Finnabair Double D Friend of a Friend took a short sojourn in Canada for the Sarnia cluster and returned home with  2 x Group 2, 1 Group 3, 1 x Group 4 and his Canadian Championship.  The first American bred Glen of Imaal Terrier to obtain it. Finnabair DD Ain’t It The Life was also in Canada and collected three Group 4s. In Scotland Bon Accord is the local show for Jeonty Dreams A Dream with Karensbrae and it was rather a good one for a finish to her puppy career. Puppy Group 1 and first in Vulnerable Breeds. Over in Ireland Abberann Cosmic Cowboy was BOB at Bray.

In Finland Oulu International Show saw Gleann Flatbone Stiubhard take Best of Breed with Astoreen Best Opposite. It was also the weekend of the Finnish Glen Club Show with a fabulous entry of 51. Best In Show went to Gleann Cotton Cody with Gleann Happy Hippie Best Bitch. Best Veteran was Abberann Fagan with Best Puppy being awarded to Finnabair Broc Rua Arda of Gleann. The Youngest Junior Handlers had a wonderful time!

In America a cluster of shows at West Springfield, Massachusetts, saw some nice Glen entries. Ber-D-Mar Sweet William O’Shea was Best of Breed at all four (picking up a Gp4 at Kenilworth KC of Connecticut inc) with Kilkenny’s Granite Glen Rooney celebrating a return to the ring after her litter of ten with 3 x BOS and an OHG4. The other Best Opposite going to Kilkenny’s Midleton of Irish Spirit.

Congratulations everybody

Let’s applaud ourselves…we deserve it!

Let’s start the Glen of Imaal Terrier round up for this last weekend in the UK with the EFG Open Show. It continued the “double theme” of National Terrier with both Best Dog & Bitch going to the same kennel. Golden Spurs was Best Dog (and Best In Show) with Romainville Billy Whizz Reserve Best Dog who also took Reserve Best In Show. Best Bitch (and Best Opposite in Show) went to Sigrid Helga at Pantcottage over Jeonty Lola May at Wickholm as Reserve Bitch with Lola, at one month short of 10, taking Best Veteran. Best Puppy was Jeonty Glynis Making Magic at Zippor. The EFG is held in conjunction with Birmingham Gundog & Terrier-the only time currently that Glen people can show twice in one day under two different judges-with Boudivella Osca taking Best of Breed there and Jeonty Jyn A New Hope Best Bitch. Also a Glen was performing in the very competitive NSC classes with Kingcottage Boogie on Basil taking Best NSC at Llanelli and District Canine Society Open Dog Show .

A quick flip west to Ireland for the Mid West Champ Show and Best of Breed Abberann Cosmic Cowboy. East to mainland Europe and Latvia with a BOB for Marfidal Pleasant Surprise and then Lithuania for their National All Breed Show and Finnabair North American Nebulon who took home the BOB rosette. Not often results from the Czech Republic so excellent to hear that Sachem Sagittarius was BOB at Budejovice. Coming back this way again, to Antwerp, it was Jeonty Junior Fire and Ice flying the breed flag there to BOB.

Way west to the States and here are the Group placers. Keadeen’s Sir Emmet Mingus Glas was BOB, and Group 2, at Palouse Hills Dog Fanciers with half sister Keadeen’s Second Star To The Right Best Opposite and the result was the same for the second show and Lewis Clark Kennel Club.  Western Carolina Dog Fanciers Association saw another  2 Group placements, Gp 1 & Gp4, for Finnabair Double D Friend of A Friend. News of a Terrier Puppy Group 1 at the Central Ohio KC Puppy Match for Finnabair Broc Rua Pegasus with Shorlyne. Columbia Terrier and Old Dominion KC of Northern Virginia saw double Best of Breed for Tipperary Columbo with Finnabair Shorlyne Caatskills Comedy Tonight Best Opposite at both. Columbo was again BOB at Baltimore County KC. A Baby Puppy Group 1 for Kilkenny’s The Gift Outright to Irish Spirits at Central Ohio KC.

Breed brains were doing well and Jeonty Dreams A Dream with Karensbrae got her entry into The Good Citizen class at shows by qualifying at 8 months old. Kelli Whitfield sends news that “Griffin played NADAC agility on Friday. He earned his first Open Touch N Go qualifying score and first place as Winston cheered him on! Monique sends word “Ginny earned her first Q and placed first in a Novice Preferred Jumpers class at an AKC Agility trial this weekend!!!”

People, you are just amazing!!

Easter successes

It may have been easter but some Glen of Imaal Terriers (and their people) were out and about flying the flag. In Ireland at Combined Canine Abberann Cosmic Cowboy was Best of Breed whilst in the UK Amhard Manhattan was taking BP, BOB & Puppy Group 4. Two days of showing at Imatra (Finland) resulted in a Best of Breed for Finnabair North American Nebulon on Day 1 and the International Show on day 2 had Meomodo Boho’s Trick or Treat take BOB & his first CACIB. Over in Sweden at Malmo McCormac Setna Sithbacc took Best of Breed over his half sister Olga.

Nice going everybody!

Lots to catch up on!

In Estonia at Narva and Riga the results were the same with Rosears Master of the House taking Best of Breed both days over Rosears Kate The Duchess who is now an International Champion. Forequarters stronger than rear with well boned foreleg and correct turn of foot. Shoulders broad and well laid back. In good harsh coat, neatly presented, he lacked enthusiasm on the move today.

OD (4,1) 1. White’s CH, IR, AM & SW CH Abberann Conan. Over the years many superlatives have been said about this 12yr old blue showman and I was delighted to have the opportunity to add my own. He has an excellent outline and proportions giving the impression of strength, essential in a Glen. In good coat, so well presented as always. His gentle expression belies a strong head and jaw with required correct ear set, dark eye and scissor bite. Fit for purpose, he has the desired front assembly and bone with strong hindquarters and depth of chest together with correct angulations. He is still well muscled throughout and commanded the ring with his balanced movement, tail carried gaily. Pleased to award him DCC & BIS

An appealing expression, used to advantage, making her the exhibit I’d like to have taken home with me. Good front and rear angulation with correct top line and tail set. Muscling up well for her age and in good coat. She enjoyed her debut in the ring and once settled, moved well. Handled sensitively and unfortunate to come against a more mature dog for the puppy challenge.

PB (1) Hardy’s Amhard Mai Tai

JB (1,1a)

PGB (1) Saletti’s Bendikes Fidelma A 2 yr old blue bitch with a pleasing head, correct bite, ear set and  nice feminine expression.  Good proportions but would have liked more angulation and substance. OB (3) White’s IR & NL CH Daulton’s Midnight Sky Of Galore. At almost 4yrs this blue bitch has a solid appearance with good outline and proportions. Correct harsh coat in good condition and well presented. A strong head with correct ear set, dark eye and bite showing a typical Glen expression to her advantage. Correct front, good bone and angulation front and rear with a deep chest, nice spring of ribs, and strong hindquarters.  Fit for purpose, she moved with drive maintaining her top line and tail carriage. Pleased to award her BCC & RBIS

In good harsh coat, well presented. A strong head, with correct bite and dark eye.  Good bone and angulations front and rear, she is well muscled throughout. A deep chest with well sprung ribs and strong hindquarters.  Moved well holding her top line.

Ann Quinn(Judge)

A new Champion and yet another Group placing.

Glen of Imaal Terrier people in the UK were up and about early as there was a 9.00am start at Darlington. The Hannington family were one of the furthest travellers in the breed but they positively flew home as their Romainville Uptown Girl took her 3rd CC so became a Champion. The Dog CC and Best of Breed was Golden Spurs who is having a great run at the moment. Respective Reserves were Pajantick Razamataz and Romainville Whistle Dixie. Best puppy was Jeonty Jyn A New Hope. A new name to the top slot in Ireland as Abberann Cosmic Cowboy took the Dog Green Star and BOB at Carlow with Abberann Reach For The Stars Ryanne taking Best Bitch.

Seems to have been a quiet weekend in Finland with only one result coming through. Tampere Group Show was a win for Highlander’s Dream Casper with Glenrosedale Cairenn Chasdubh Best Bitch. A cluster of shows in Massachusetts saw a Best of Breed for Kilkenny’s Granite Glen Rooney and three for Kilkenny’s Best of My Love who also took OHG2.

Nice going everybody!!
