Flying the flag….not half!

Glen of Imaal Terrier people fly the flag with verve and enthusiasm so it’s rather nice when the hard work is noted in the Group ring and it certainly was this last weekend!

In Illinois Abberann Lament for Owen Roe took a Group 1 (Chain O’Lakes KC) and a Group 4 (Kenosha KC). Park Shore Kennel Club had Kilkenny’s Across The Universe At Setanta take a Group 3. The 2 day Erie Kennel Club Shows (Pennsylvania) was a triumph for Tipperary That Girl with a Group 3 and OHG2 on the first day and Group 1 with OHG2 on the second. Starting 2019 with THREE Group placements!

Before we celebrate the first 2019 Glen of Imaal Terrier achievements though the last of 2018 has to be honoured, particularly as it is from the Brains Department

Monique writes “Ginny qualified for the third time and earned her title in the Excellent Jumpers Preferred class at an AKC Agility trial on Sunday(30th)”

Thought the results were all going to be American this week, as they have the better January weather, but Jeonty Dreams A Dream with Karensbrae in Scotland flew the flag with a Group 3 at Bon Accord. The place many would like to be is Palm Springs and Keadeen Second Star To The Right obviously loved it as she was BOB three days out of the four with Keadeen’s Luck Be A Lady Best of Breed on the last one. Columbiana KC saw Finnabair You Should Be So Lucky take Best of Breed and it was repeated at both Rubber City shows. Tipperary Uptown Girl and Kilkenny’s Granite Aine of Cloddagh were the Best Opposites. The two Merrimack Valley Kennel Club shows saw double Group 2 placements for Abberann Lament for Owen Roe with Abberann Derbla Best Bitch.

Congratulations all.

Catching up with A LOT!

Holy Macaroni, Glen of Imaal Terriers have been doing us all so proud over the last couple of weeks it’s hard to know where to start!

Canada can take the honours this week as it is a very rare breed there in the showring so Groups are the thing for competition. Gleann Holy Hannah took a Gp1 and Gp4 United Kennel Club and Group 2 x2 at Moncton. Abberann Derbla 2 X Gp3 at Credit Valley Kennel Club plus Gp4 Georgina KC. Staying on that Continent and Gleann Damn Daisy, holidaying there from Finland, is getting seriously noticed with a GP3 at Central Florida KC, GP4 at Jacksonville Dog Fanciers plus BOB at the 2nd show, 2 BOBs at Treasure Coast KC of Florida, BOB Seminole Dog Fanciers Association plus GP2 at Seminole’s second show, Greater Ocala Dog Club was another BOB. BOS at Jacksonville was a new name to the blog, Long Lake Pharms Angus Fuller. Welcome to showing Glens and love your kennel name. Kilkenny’s Irish American Classic at Castlerock was BOB Space Coast Kennel Club of Palm Bay and the second Greater Ocala.

Leaving Florida and going to Pennsylvania Ber-D-Mar Sweet William O’Shea was BOB Greater Philadelphia Dog Fanciers Association & both Kennel Club of Philadelphia. Tipperary American Girl took BOB Penn Treaty KC. Heading north and west Kilkenny’s Across The Universe to Setanta, Gp4 at Pontiac KC & Greater Muskegon KC, BOB at Grand Rapids KC, Dayton KC, Lima KC with Abberann Lament for Owen Roe picking up GP4 at Kalamazoo KC and Daulton’s Wild Night of Galore OHG4 at Pontiac KC and Grand Rapids. Daulton’s Gedunk Malone from Emerald Isle picked up the last BOB of the weekend from Ohio

Northern Europe and Gleann Una Noonan has to do the lead in. Best Opposite at the Norwegian Winners as well as BOS at Jyvaskyla (Day 2) she was Best veteran in Breed day one and then took Best Veteran in Show out of over 70 veterans competing for the honour! Gleann Bigwig was BOB at the Norwegian Winners to her and Gleann Indico Indy at Jyvaskyla. Day 1 of that show saw Gleann Cotton Cody & Gleann Dear Dandelion taking the top honours. To Norway again and Rosears Master of The House was BOB Nordic Winners with BOS Pearytail Bonnie B Goode. Vaxjo (Sweden) was a BOB for Rosears Master of The House with Rosears Nugget of Gold Best Bitch. Flipping to the Danish Winners and Cairdiulacht Diarmuid MacMiolmor took Best and BOS was Rosears Nugget of Gold. Gleann Kooky Kanye was BOB at Lempäälä Puppy Show with Best Opposite Sex to Meomodo Dancing Angel. Two Best of Breeds in Germany for My Dear Fellow Calimero The Angel and in Rotterdam Amhard Manhattan took Best of Breed and his Dutch Junior Championship. Belgium to finish off and Boudivella Osca took BOB at both the Euro Dog Show & Benelux with Sigrid Helga at Pantcottage taking Best Opposite at both.

Said it had been a serious bit of breed promotion and it isn’t done yet. The “brains” department was also flying the flag. Jeonty Dreams A Dream with Karensbrae passed her Silver Good Citizens and “Poppy” (need a name) in America also took her Good Citizens and earned 90 out of 100 in Rally Advanced. Keadeen’s Blue Boy for Bluesette qualified RATCHX7 which makes him the highest qualified barn Hunting Glen in the USA. Daulton’s Captain Jack of Roseglen took his BCAT title to show how incredibly diverse Glens are as a breed.

All over the world Glen of Imaal Terrier folk regularly give their time to promote the breed at many exhibitions and events. The National Pet Show was held recently and Alfie, Basil, Gil, Inga and Murfi showed everybody just what a Glen is. It’s also great when breed owners decide to get together “just for fun” as happened recently with the New Jersey Fall Glen Gathering.

All of us are wowed with your dedication and talent to show the breed in so many places!

Certainly a BUSY weekend!!

The biggie in the Glen of Imaal Terrier world this last weekend, as it is for any show terriers, is the group of shows known as the Montgomery Cluster. The 4 day event starts off with Hatboro 1, then Hatboro 2, Devon and finally Montgomery Terrier Show itself. Starting in Finnabair DD Ain’t It The Life was BOB over her brother Finnabair Double D Friend of A Friend, her son Finnabair You Should be So Lucky was Best of Winners. Hatboro 2 also went the way of the ladies with Kilkenny’s Across The Universe At Setanta over Friend of A Friend once more. Gleann Damn Daisy took BOW. Devon was a reversal of the Hatboro 1 top placings-Friend of A Friend over Ain’t It The Life- with Damn Daisy again Best of Winners. Montgomery (with the GITCA Specialty) finished off the weekend with a repeat of the Devon results and Finnabair You Should Be So Lucky once again Best of Winners. America is one heck of a big country though and other Group placings were being recorded. Abberann Phelan was Group 3 at Greater Omaha Terrier Association & Abberann Lament for Owen Roe Gp4 at Cornhusker KC of Lincoln Nebraska. Canada also saw two Group placements (2xGp3) with Abberann Derbla at Nipissing KC.

In Germany My Dear Fellow Cordula The Angel was BOB at Rostock and on the following day repeated her win at the Klub Fur Terrier Show. At that show Spirit of Ireland Batida de CoCo was Best Veteran and then won the Veteran Group! In Finland at Tuulos Group Show Gleann Gildea with Nellie took Best of Breed with Best Opposite Sex going to Gleann Ho Ho Hogan. Two days of showing in Ireland and once again it was the lady to the fore on day one with Daulton’s Midnight Sky of Galore taking BOB over Golden Spurs. Day 2 Sky had to bend a paw as her kennelmate Abberann Conan pipped her for Best of Breed. South Wales Kennel Association means just two shows left with CCs for Glen of Imaals before the end of the year. At SWKA Boudivella Osca was the man over Jeonty Jyn A New Hope who took her third ticket and Best Opposite Sex. The two Reserves being Romainville Rock A Fella, who was also Best Puppy & Amhard Mai Tai.

“Brains” have also been in action. Laura Trainor writes We are competing at the Montgomery Terrier Agility trials. There is a competition for best breed “village” with the theme of the old west. The Mini Schnauzers had a photo booth to benefit their rescue. Unfortunately, Niamh was able to make use of their reasons to be WANTED for her standard run.  She redeemed herself in her Jumpers run, qualifying under judge Pamela Sturtz. This Q was her 75th lifetime qualifying Master Jumpers With Weaves run, earning her the title Master Jumpers Preferred Gold! Later in the day she also qualified in Master Barn Hunt. Good Girl Niamh! and from Monique Anthony:-Ginny participated in AKC Agility trials this past weekend and qualified twice in the Novice Standard Preferred class and once in the Open Jumpers Preferred class, placing first or second each time.

Fabulous weekend all!

Blimey, we’re good.

Sometimes a show just has to start the Glen of Imaal Terrier catch up and this is one of those weeks; National Terrier. It’s considered one of the highlights of the terrier world and folk were there in force and it was a double, double result. Best of Breed and Best Opposite to the same owner with the two Reserves to the same owner…..and there was getting on for 40 years in the breed difference between them so ably illustrating that it is possible to do well with a Glen whoever you are. Something else was gloriously illustrated as well; Glens just get better and better as they get older. In possibly the majority of breeds animals of 10 & 12 wouldn’t be considered for serious showing. As there was no veteran class these mere youngsters were entered with everybody. One stood second between a two and three year old and the other swept all before him as he took the Dog ticket and BOB. Abberann Conan had one of the ultimate compliments paid by a judge who happened to be walking by the ring “that can’t be Homer surely!” To be recognised and known by his call name, that’s the way to go. Bitch CC to him was his kennel mate Daulton’s Midnight Sky of Galore which gave her the CH to add to the others at the front of her name. The two reserves went home in the proud pocket of Jane Alstead with the awarding to her Golden Spurs and Sigrid Helga at Pantcottage. Best Puppy went to Jeonty Dreams a Dream with Karensbrae who earned extra kudos for Glens with a 4th in the Puppy Stakes as well as a placing in the YKC Handling.

The Pearytail D litter debuted at the Kotka Puppy Show weekend and had rather a successful time. Pearytail Donald Dump took BOB both days over his sister Pearytail Dillion Dollar Baby and then topped it with a Group 3 and a Group 4. Sundsvall (Finland) saw Gleann Flatbone Stiubhard take home the Best of Breed rosette. Meomodo Boho’s Trick or Treat was having a trip to Lithuania and took Best of Breed both days as well as being shortlisted in the Group on Day 1. My Dear Fellow Cordula The Angel was BOB & BP at Dresden whilst Jeonty Junior Fire & Ice was picking up the applause at the International Show in Luxembourg.

Finnabair Double D Friend of a Friend had a great cluster in Alabama. Group 1 both days at Tuscaloosa KC with Group 2 & 1 at the Birmingham KC shows. Be-D-Mar Sweet William took a G4 at Trap Falls KC and Abberann Lament for Owen Roe was at Packerland KC over Easter and took Group 4.

Lots of “beauty” but the brains of the breed were also on the go over the weekend when Ginny added another title to the back of her name so BCAT (AKC Fast CAT-100 yard Coursing Ability Test) joins the rest

National Terrier is often on Easter weekend but this year it was missed by a week. Nicki Montford said she would “provide cake” in honour and what a creation it was. Chocolate cake, with more chocolate cake and decoration of mini eggs and crème eggs. Suffice to say none of it returned home with her. Thanks Nic, it was greatly appreciated. Over the years Glen of Imaal Terrier owners have fought a long battle on how the name is spelt, it’s part of owning the breed, but jaws dropped when arriving at the benching area at National Terrier. The first Championship Show to gives us classes, the show that terrier folk go to and there it was….Glen of IMMAL. The Chairman and Secretary of NT, when the matter was bought to their attention, both swore innocence and said there would be spelling and breed awareness courses introduced before next year. We expect nothing less!

Great weekend everybody.

Lots to catch up on!

Last week Crufts took precedence so let’s make it St Patrick’s Day this week as, after all, Glen of Imaal Terriers are an Irish Breed. Best of Breed in Dublin was Abberann Cosmic Cowboy. In Finland at Jamijarvi Group Show BOB was Gleann Indico Indy and BOS was awarded to Madra Athas Ceinlys Chead Chra. In Estonia at Narva and Riga the results were the same with Rosears Master of the House taking Best of Breed both days over Rosears Kate The Duchess who is now an International Champion. Two shows in the weekend in Germany with My Dear Fellow Cordula The Angel taking the big rosette over Rosears Lionheart at one and McJakes Aivy getting the nod at the other with Lionheart once again Best Opposite. In the Netherlands Madra Áthas Caoilainn Chéad Ghra took Best of Breed at the International Dogshow KV Rijnland, Hazerswoude

Kate Flack send news from the US North West: “The 2 day Seattle KC show in the Pacific Northwest was smaller than in past years, held inside on a warm & beautiful spring weekend, but nonetheless, Glens made a good entry with the newest 6 – 9 month puppies showing. Glens were awarded recognition in both the Owner Handled and regular terrier groups. Saturday: Judge Gale Young BOB & Terrier Gr 3 KEADEEN’S SECOND STAR TO THE RIGHT, BW DAULTON’S EILI FROM EMERALD ISLE, BOS/BOBOH & OH Terrier Gr 3 GCHB CH KEADEEN’S SIR EMMET MINGUS GLAS, SEL GCHB KEADEEN’S BLUE BOY FOR BLUESETTE. Sunday: Judge Joe Walton BOB KEADEEN’S SECOND STAR TO THE RIGHT, BW KEADEEN’S LUCKY BE A LADY for a MAJOR! BOS/BOBOH CH KILKENNY’S LOVE AND HAPPINESS, SEL GCHB CH KEADEEN’S SIR EMMET MINGUS. Keadeen’s Sir Emmet Mingus Glas has also been to the back to back shows at Shasta Kennel Club and came away with four Best of Breeds, 4x OHG1, one Group One and to top it all off Owner Handler Reserve Best In Show!

Finnabair Double D Friend of a Friend took Group 3 at Tullahoma Kennel Club & Group 4 in Nashville. Jeonty Golden Memo went east to a cluster in Kentucky and annexed Best of Breed at Evansville and  two of the Mid Kentucky Kennel Club shows with Abberann Lament for Owner Roe being awarded Best Dog. At the third Owen Roe was Best of Breed with Kilkenny’s Middleton of Irish Spirit Best Opposite.

Great going everybody!

Nearly the end of October

Admittedly at October draws to a close Glen of Imaal Terrier results aren’t as numerous as the summer months but still some keep out there bringing the breed to view. Last week we applauded 11 year old Johnny Be Good for his BOB well this week the veterans lead in again with 10 year old Donvaleset Brier at Midland Counties. Rock Buster from Romainville was Best Dog with Romainville Rock On Lizzie RBB (and BP) with Romainville Fast N’Furious at Wickholm Reserve Best Dog.

Just one result from Finland, at IDS Seinajoki Best of Breed was Highlanders Dream Casper. Over in the States Delaware Ohio Kennel Club saw Daulton’s Caoimhe of Pines Meadow was BOB and OHG2. Brandon Florida Kennel Club was 2 Best of Breeds for Finnabair Double D Friend of a Friend with Kilkenny Irish American Classic at Castlerock & Finnabair DD Shut Up & Kiss Me Best Opposites. 7 month old Abberann Lament for Owen Roe was a rising star in Valparaiso where he took Best of Breed(over Champions) and Kilkenny’s Across The Universe to Setanta took a Best of Breed & Group 3. Canada saw Gleann Holy Hannah notch up a Group 2 AND a Group 3 at Island Dog Club

Kelli Whitfield sends news of a great coursing and agility weekend “2 FAST AKC Agility Q’s with first place for Griffin plus 4 AKC FAST CAT Q’s which gave Griffin his AKC BCAT! (Cooper earned some ribbons too!)”

Well done all!
