Goodbye

It has been no secret that Anne Hardy was holding Mel’s hand at home whilst the weeks and days counted down. On Monday Mel left Anne as he started that last great walk on his own. For him, when he arrives, there will be that joyous meeting of friends-both two and four legged-that have gone before. For Anne life will seem so strange, so empty, so different. All Glen of Imaal Terrier people send their best wishes, their love, their condolences and we are here if you need us.

Leeds Championship Show critique

Glen of Imaal Terriers

PD (1) 1 Alstead’s Golden Spur, 7 months bl/br. Scissors bite, round eyes, ear placement & carriage is correct. Good quality coat coming through. From the front he shows an equal turn out of the feet, nice length of upper arm with a well laid shoulder. Good height to length ratio & well angulated behind. The topline needs to firm & movement was erratic until he settled. Very promising youngster. BP.

JD (1) 1 Golden Spur.

PGD (1) 1 Squire’s Bendikes Edward Bear, bl/br male. Masculine head & expression, correct scissor bite, round eye & well placed small ears. Level rise over the back with a quality coat. Viewed from the front the turnout of the feet from the pasterns is equal. Well angulated front & rear. In movement, his lack of condition showed, he did not hold his backline in movement & found the uneven ground difficult to deal with.

LD (2) 1 Howarth’s Donvaleset Liffy at Arkview, bl/br, masculine head & expression with a strong jaw & scissor bite. Ear placement & carriage is correct. Backskull is of a good width. Good length & lay of upper arm into a well laid shoulder. Good quality coat, a dog with a level topline rising without any dipping. In excellent condition, striding out well. CC & BOB;

2 Davis’ Donvaleset Rafferty at Viahninns, bl/br, litter brother to 1, another masculine dog. Much of the previous critique applies to this dog with the exception of his coat which on the day was soft & in movement he didn’t quite cope with the ground as well as 1, but nonetheless a dog with much promise.

OD (2) 1 Quinn’s Kirikee Ronan O’Gara, blue male, excellent masculine head & expression. Powerful foreface with good ear carriage. Well laid shoulder with a correct level rising topline. Double coat. Strode out well & in good condition which showed as he held his topline whilst on the move. RCC;

2 Ashcroft’s Romainville Typhoon, superb masculine head & expression. Good ear placement & carriage. Coat is correct & profuse. The coat caused him to look overloaded in front & to appear shortened, my hands told me a different story, but I can only judge on the day. Well angulated behind, another sound dog that strode out well.

VD (1) 1 Hadley’s Donvaleset Rebus, bl/br, excellent masculine head & expression. Scissor bite, round eyes, good ear carriage. Good breadth of backskull. Good length & lay of upper arm & shoulder placement. Correct topline & good rear angulation. Strode out well, slightly loose in pasterns, kept his topline on the move. BV.

PGB (2) 1 Squires’ Young May Moon, bl/br, feminine bitch with a well proportioned head. Correct dentition, round eyes & nicely placed ears which were carried well. Viewed from the front, feet turned out equally. Well angled upper arm which was of a good length. Good length to height ratio & not to long in the loin. In good condition, she coped with the ground well keeping her topline. CC;

2 Baldock’s Ellerton Dusky Beauty, another quality bl/br bitch who has matured nicely, however she was not happy with the conditions & it showed.

LB (1) 1 Ashcroft’s Romainville Moira, wheaten, feminine well muscled bitch in excellent condition. Correct mouth. When viewed from the front feet turned out equally from the pasterns. Upper arm is of a good length but could be better angled. In good coat. Nicely angulated in the rear. Did not cope with the uneven ground too well.

OB (2) 1 Baldock’s Ch Jeonty Maybe Daysee, feminine wheaten bitch with a good strong jaw, correct dentition & a well proportioned head. Well angled upper arm of good length with a well laid shoulder. Her coat showed the correct double coat however wispy undercoat did show through. Moved out strongly, keeping her topline & coping well with the terrain. RCC;

2 Harley’s Ch Donvaleset Brier, wheaten bitch, feminine head & expression, good strong jaw with correct dentition. Well boned with a level topline. Not happy in the heat, movement sound but lethargic, topline rolling slightly.

ANNE HARDY

Nice weekend

Donvaleset Liffy At Arkview, Young May Moon & Golden Spurs

Leeds Championship Dog Show was held in superb weather If perhaps a little hot for dogs.

Judge Anne Hardy gave Best of Breed Glen of Imaal Terrier and Dog ticket to Mrs J Howarth’s Donvaleset Liffy at Arkview  with the bitch ticket going to  Mr C Squires and I.OW Squires Young May Moon.The two reserves were Dog Mrs Quinn’s Kirklee Ronan O’Gara and Bitch Mrs Baldock’s  Ch Jeonty Maybe Dayse, respectively, Best Puppy was Dr J Alstead’s Pajantick Golden Spurs.  Just a curiosity here but Young May Moon and Golden Spur are actually siblings (not litter siblings) so is the Pajantick a mistake?

In the USA it was 2 Best of Breeds for Glentyrs Lady Isabella at Castlerock and a Best of Breed for GCH Emerald isle Keely with Daulton at Dan Emmett KC with GCH Finnabair Song of My Heart Taking BOB and Group 4 at Marion Ohio Kennel Club. Finland, enjoying a glorious heatwave, saw Glenrosedale Aoibheann Nion Rós win BOB at Porvoo and became also Finnish and Swedish Champion with Taramont Iora Rua being Best Veteran. Helsingin Kennel Club saw Gleann Ungus MacGuire get the nod for BOB with Glenrosedale Aoibheann Nion Rós Best Opposite

Many congratulations to all!
