CRITIQUE FOR BIRMINGHAM & DISTRICT GUNDOG & TERRIER CLUB TWIN GROUP OPEN SHOW                                              GLEN OF IMAAL TERRIER                                              SUNDAY 17TH APRIL 2016

Thanks to the commitee for the appointment and the excellent hospitality. A friendly show as usual. Thank you all for the good entry of well behaved Glens. On the whole coats were good. No problems with eye shape or colour. Ears and tails. ( it helps sometimes with tails to block out anything more than a fist full). Movement generally good. I didn’t have any major concerns with Top lines. Though, there was concern with a few mouths, rear angulation and a few getting long in the loin. Just remember that Glens mature late so don’t give up till they reach 20 yrs!

PUPPY DOG (2) –             

1ST TOBIJANSKI’S ROMAINVILLE BECKS BLUE FOR ZIPPOR

Almost 11 mths old Blue. Sound confirmation overall.Will watch his progress with interest.

2ND SMITH’S ROMAINVILLE BILBO BAGINS

11 mths old Wheaten with the same sire as the 1st but maybe taking a little longer to develop.

15 mth old Wheaten. Coming on nicely . Maturity will come.

2ND HANNINGTON’S BOUDIVELLA OSCA

15 mth old Wheaten. Pleasing overall, movement not quite as good as my first on the day.

Just over 2 yrs old Blue pleasing overall but a little straight in rear angulation.

2ND SQUIRES BENDICKES EDWARD BEAR AT SQUIRESBEACH

4 yrs old Blue Brindle. Pleasent character with a good head.

Almost 5 yrs old Blue. At last reaching maturity since I Iast went over him as a youngster.

4 yrs old Strong Wheaten dog but didn’t like his bite.

At 5 yrs old this Wheaten has matured into a fine specimen of the breed & a worthy champion  .

4 1/2 yrs old Blue. Lacking in maturity to the 1 st

1ST BALDOCK’S ELLERTON DUSKY BEAUTY

4 1/2 Blue. Nice and compact with a broad head. Plenty of muscle. Very vocal on the day, which a judge without Glen experience could easily misconstrue as aggression.

2ND STUDD’S WICKHOLM GONE IN SIXTY SECONDS

2 yrs old Wheaten. Femine looks but would like to see a broader chest and more turn of stifle.

4 1/2 yrs Blue. Liked this lady the 1 st time I went over her and nothing has changed since. Except age and muscle.

5 yrs old Blue. Nice and compact. Construction good although smaller that the 1 st.

Into 2013……

A few weeks ago it was asked if the blog should change direction in any way and, if so, what should it be? There has been responses and there has been things sent so let’s make a beginning…..

Winter and early Spring is the dead season Championship Show wise for Glen of Imaal Terrier people so if anybody wants to get out and about it has to be Open Shows. Open Shows are not what they used to be and are desperate for exhibitors-that is well reported everywhere-so you would think that (hopefully) favourable judges would be engaged.

North Lincs has Terrence D. D. Balfour Burgess (Dobrugh) judging WFT, Border, Cairn, Manchester, Cesky, Glen of Imaal, AVNSC and Group. His breed is French Bulldogs and he is (according to websites) a specialist in Chinese Crested and gives tickets in, amongst other things, Shar Pei so maybe he is a closet terrier fan as well.

Lancs Sporting Terrier has Joan Sheldon (Oozzoo) judging Cesky, Glen of Imaal, Kerry Blue, Lakeland, Parson Russell, Staffordshire, Cairn. Her breed is Staffies so she hopefully has seen Glens occasionally.

West Midlands Terrier and Birmingham Gundog and Terrier are top of the list at the moment for actually appointing judges that have had known contact with Glen of Imaal Terriers!! Matt Garnham (for West Mids) has handled and groomed Glens as well as attending an Association Seminar and Nicki Montford (for Birmingham G&T) has owned and exhibited the breed since 1996!

So it’s looking like applause for the committee of two shows, a cautious acknowledgement for one and a, well it’s different, for the fourth.
