MIDLAND COUNTIES-GLEN OF IMAAL TERRIER

May I thank the officers and committee for their hospitality. The support of the exhibitors was much appreciated, especially on a Friday. If only we could award first places to everyone.

PGD (1) George’s Rockbuster From Romainville. 2yrs blue dog. Good head with dark eye & good ear carriage. A strong neck leading to a well sprung rib. Not too long in the loin & a good length double coat. Has the desired bow to front legs & moved soundly with drive. Will only improve with maturity. BD

OD (3) 1A 1st Sage’s Romainville Fast N’furious At Wickholm. 51/2 yrs Blue dog with a good head. Correct ears, eye shape & correct scissor bite. Level gentle rise to the topline & a good broad chest. I would like to see more muscle but moved soundly.

2nd Alsteads Ch Golden Spurs Almost 4yr old blue brindle dog. Much to like and on another day positions could be reversed. Needs more drive on the move.

PB (1) George’s Romainville Rock on Lizzie. At 8 months this wheaten pup has a lot to fill out but once the muscle & maturity arrives she should turn into a nice bitch. Good angulation front & rear. Well sprung ribs. Shoulders well laid back. Nice deep chest presented with good textured double coat. Sound movement fore & aft. BP + RBB

OB (4) 1st Harley’s Ch Donvaleset Brier. At almost 10 years of age this wheaten bitch still commands in the ring. Well muscled throughout on good bone structure. Good front & rear angulation. Nice strong scissor bite, dark eye, correct ear shape & carriage. Level topline rising gently to good tail onset. Good length & texture to wiry top coat with soft undercoat presented neatly. Good broad chest with well sprung ribs. Sound movement. BB & BOB.

2nd Georges Romainville Maggie May. 3yr old wheaten bitch. Although on the smaller size she is well proportioned. Muscle will add to the overall picture as I couldn’t find any major faults. I’ll be watching her future development

Staying local for once

It was “The Girls (rather than the boys) are Back In Town” at the Glen of Imaal Terrier Enthusiasts & Fanciers Club Open Show when both Best In Show & Reserve Best in Show went to the ladies in the form of Wickholm Breaking Dawn and Jeonty Mini MeMe. The Best Dogs were Gleann Dynamo Man at Jeonty and Golden Spur. Boudivella Tegan was Best Puppy and Donvaleset Rebus Best Veteran so with the dog food, rosettes, cups, specials and actual real life money on offer quite a few cars returned home with more in than they had started with.

The EFG Open Show is one of the very rare times that 2 shows can be attended for one lot of travelling money and at the “other”, Birmingham Gundog & Terrier, Best of Breed went to Romainville Becks Blue for Zippor, Best Bitch Bregorrey Madam Defiance and once again Best Puppy to Boudivella Tegan

Nice going everybody!

It’s the EFG Open Show this weekend!!!`

Sunday 23rd at the Sports Connexion, Ryton on Dunsmoor, CV3 3FL will be the place to go if you want to see Glen of Imaal Terriers this weekend. The EFG Open Show will begin judging at 9.30am and Birmingham Gundog & Terrier Glen classes will follow in the same ring as soon as the EFG Show is finished.

Finally the Coventry roadworks are being reported as nearly finished and no other traffic problems are being reported (at the moment).

There will be a ring number prize draw after judging has finished so a chance of even more to go home with. The usual bring and share table will be there so nibbles, drinks etc. would be appreciated

Reminder for the weekend.

It’s National Terrier on Saturday so check the show bag to see if you’ve remembered to put the entry in for the EFG Open Show (Sue will be there to collect them) and any membership monies you forgot to give over at Crufts. If you can’t find your EFG Schedule it’s on the website and entries close on April 10th. Karen Forbes is judging.

The EFG Open Show is held alongside Birmingham Gundog & Terrier so you’ll get two bites of the showing cherry for just one set of travelling costs. Jamie Sage is judging Glen of Imaal Terriers at G&T and entries can be given either direct to Rachel Leeson at NT or made online at Fosse Data

Birmingham Gundog & Terrier critique

Glen of Imaal Terriers

Junior: 1) Bendikes Fidelma. Not a bad type, head okay, dark eye, good ear set and carriage. Turns front pasterns tad too much. Coat not at its best but enough coverage & good colour. Would prefer more rise over the loin & had no drive moving out. Excellent temperament.

Post Graduate: 1) Jeonty Yippee Kiaye. Another blue, very good head, eye dark & wide open black nostrils. Ears mostly in repose. Strong forechest, good shoulder & very good padded feet. Hind action okay if a bit zig zag at times. Another one whose coat needs attention.

Open: 1) Gleann Dynamo Man at Jeonty. This is a dog I didn’t care much for as a youngster but my word has he come on. More balanced & more together on the move (tad long hock to heel). Has bodied up well, front assembly very good, head planes correct & ears held nicely. Black nose & good eye colour. 2 years old but all coming together. BOB and Group 2. 2) Donvaleset Rafferty at Viahninns. Shorter coupled dog. Nice head/bite but far too much hair obscuring. Would prefer a tad more length to forelegs, little rise over the loin. Not a bad mover but a bit close behind.

Thank you to exhibitors. Most dogs present needed some ringcraft training and presentation technique. All tremperaments were good.

Pam Aldous-Town (Judge)
