Catching up

Where to start? We like to give great Glen of Imaal Terrier things the first shout so this week it was a toss of the coin and it came down heads so “the boys” are the breed’s lead in guys. Kelli sends news that “Griffin and Winston received their AKC Trick Dog Elite Performer (TKE)  titles! The new Elite Performer title is the highest level trick title and requires the dog to perform 10 tricks from the advanced and performer level tricks with at least 5 props and there must be a story.” It’s a first for Glens and if you want to see just what the boys can do take a look at You Tube The boys weren’t the only brains in action as Monique writes about Ginny “who Q’d in 3 classes at the Performance Scent Dogs trial in CT. She qualified in Advanced Buildings and then did very well in both Advanced Containers classes, earning a 2nd place in the first class and finishing her title in the 2nd class! ”

If the coin had come up tails the first news would have been of Boudivella Osca taking Best of Breed in Switzerland (as well as Utrecht) and so obtaining his International Championship title. Not to be outdone Romainville Uptown Girl and Boudivella Tegan also obtained their Swiss Championships. Not something that usual at all for Glens whelped in the UK. Blackpool Championship Show saw another first for Glens. Romainville Becks Blue for Zippor was Best of Breed with Jeonty Dreams a Dream with Karensbrae Best Bitch & Best Puppy. She was also taken into the YKC Terrier Stakes and won that, a first for Glens? Running with the “blimey we’re good theme” is a Group placing in Holland, again not a usual occurrence, but Jeonty Junior Fire and Ice was nodded to Gp4 at Zwolle.

In Finland Marfidal Santa Baby was BOB with Pearytail Donald Dump Best Opposite (nice entry of 19 Glens) at Kotka whilst in Rovaniemi Gleann Gildea with Nelli annexed the Best of Breed rosette with Glenrosedale Ardal Ridire Ain Ri was Best Dog. Aura Group Show Highlanders Dream Casper took BOB and Gleann Funnyfifi Stiubhard Best Bitch. Salo Dog Show saw Glenrosedale Caireann Chasdubh as Best with Breed with Hammersmolles Rocket Saturn Best Opposite Sex.

In America Finnabair Double D Friend of a Friend has been having a great run. Over a couple of weeks he took 3x Group 2, one Group 3 and 2x Group 4. The results from the Tampa cluster saw Kilkenny’s Irish American Classic of Castlerock Best Opposite to him. Western Pennysylvania KA was a triumph for Daulton’s Wild Night of Galore and Echo Hills KC of Ohio saw Finnabair Broc Rua Pegasus with Shorlyne Best of Breed. And finally another tremendous US KC name. Please let Lewiston-Auburn Kennel Club of Maine be as good as it’s name. Glendalough’s Fergus O’Quinn wasn’t really bothered though as he took Best of Breed. From Clackamas KC (Oregon) Jeff Dairiki sends Ciarán, Keadeen’s Blue Boy for Bluesette, had a great weekend going BOB both days.  Saturday’s judge was Linda Wells. Sunday he went on to place fourth in the Terrier group under judge Lorraine Bisso.  Ciarán also completed three qualifying master Barn Hunt runs, earning his RATCHX5! Stella, Keadeen’s Second Star to the Right, went BOS both days.  Chance, Keadeen’s by Happy Chance, went WD/BOW on Saturday; Tristan, Keadeen’s Happy Go Lucky, took WD/BOW on Sunday.  Lulu, Keadeen’s Luck be a Lady, went WB both days. Quinn, Kilkenny’s Love and Happiness, was awarded select dog both days.” Kate Flack has also been busy “The bifurcated 2018 Montana ‘death circuit’ is behind us …10 show days in 12 days. Stamina is Emmet’s (Keadeen’s Sir Emmet Mingus Glas) middle name! He brought home 3 Terrier Group rosettes (two Third Place and 1 Fourth Place) along with seven NOHS group placements (3 OHGr 1’s, 2OHGr 2s and 2OHGr3).”

Great session everybody and, as usual, you all do the breed proud!

We’re still out there!

At Leeds Championship Show Boudivella Oscar got his first CC (with Best of Breed) with Young May Moon taking the bitch ticket. Romainville Becks Blue for Zippor & Roaminville Razzamatazz taking the two Reserves. At the Danish Terrier Club Show McCormac Setna Sithbacc was Best of Breed whilst in Germany Spirit of Ireland Angel was taking Best veteran & Best of Breed. In Lithuania Pearytail Candy McCoy took the top award at one show and also obtained the last Lithuanian Junior CAC so became a Lithuanian, Estonian, Latvian and Baltic Junior Champion at another where Pearytail Black Cat was BOB. The Pearytails had a good weekend because at the same time Pearytail Cherry Bomb was Best of Breed in Helsinki.

Over in America a cluster of shows at Portand (Oregon) saw two Best of Breeds for Keadeen Blue Boy of Bluesette and one for Keadeen Sir Emmet Mingus Glas.

Pride of place has to be given though to the fabulous Oliver as Monique writes the following:- “Even though it was 95 degrees at the Performance Scent Dog trial yesterday in Littleton, MA, Oliver qualified in 2 classes and earned 1st place ribbons: Excellent Buildings & Excellent Distance (metallic level)! The judges were impressed with his strong work ethic. That’s my boy!

I was especially excited about him earning his Excellent Building leg. The 2 contiguous rooms were overflowing with furniture and storage material, so it was difficult. After locating 2 hides and with 30 seconds left to go, Oliver sort of alerted near the door and a tall plastic container unit. Not convinced it was an alert on a scented hide, I moved him around the room while he barked at me. With a few seconds left, I brought him back to the area of interest and he sniffed around but didn’t give me a convincing alert, so I called finish thinking we had blown it. Nope. I was correct in not calling it and the judge told me afterwards that she thought he was simply waiting to leave b/c he had finished searching. Whew.”

Beauty and brains, Glen of Imaal Terriers have them both!

A little quieter weekend…

….but still four Glen of Imaal Terrier results to applaud and one fabulous “brains” achievement.

At Windsor Boudivella Oscar was Best of Breed with Amhard Jessie Jay Best Bitch whilst at Bray Abberann Phelan was BOB with Daulton Midnight Sky of Galore Best Opposite. It was the Finnish Glen Club Specialty Show and Gleann Una Noonan took the BIS honours with Abberann Fagan Best Dog whilst in the States Tipperary Cora Countess of Grantham was BOB at Bushy Run Kennel Club.

Monique writes:-“Oliver earned a title in the Excellent Speed nosework class at the Performance Scent Dogs trial in New Hampshire on Saturday! He also earned bronze first places in the Excellent Distance class and a second Excellent Speed class”

Well done all!

Some were still out and about!

Three events to record over the Christmas/New Year period for Glen of Imaal Terriers and their owners. At Dublin Dog Show Abberann Phelan was Best of Breed with Daulton Midnight Sky of Galore taking the Bitch Green Star. At Luton Canine Association Boudivella Oscar took his first Group Placement with Best of Breed and Puppy Group 3.

And Monique sends the following:- On Saturday in New Hampshire, Oliver earned his 3rd qualifying score and resulting title in the Novice Speed class at a Performance Scent Dogs’ Nosework trial.  By doing so, he completed the requirement of earning titles in all five Novice classes (Buildings, Containers, Distance, Exterior, Speed) to become the FIRST dog of any breed to earn an overall NOVICE LEVEL TITLE! Accomplishing this involved lots of practice and traveling hours to trials over the last 8 months, but he and I thoroughly enjoyed the process. He also qualified for the 3rd time in Advanced Containers and earned that class title.  I am so proud that a 16 year old Glen of Imaal Terrier was the first to achieve this milestone and that he continually demonstrates that age is only a number!

Oliver-PSD Novice title

LKA critique

Glen of Imaal Terriers L.K.A

I would firstly like to say a big thank you to all exhibitors for your support. I was pleased with the amount of dogs entered.

As expected this time of year coats were not going to be at their best. But some of the dogs could have been a little tidier. I was surprised and pleased to see that mouths do not seem to be such an issue any more; all the dogs had good dentition and correct bite.

Still a variation in sizes, I think this can get confusing for observers looking at our breed. Breeders need to remember the primary function of a Glen of Imaal terrier and try and keep to the standard.

Other than that I very much enjoyed Judging and seeing old friends.
