Still showing strongly into Christmas week

The big Eukanuba cluster in Florida saw a triumph for GCH Cill Dara’s Fergus of Daulton with four out of four Best of Breeds and twice being shortlisted in the Group. Glen of Imaal Terriers also caught the eye in Pennsylvania with two Group 3 placements for GCh Coleraine’s Mandalay Royalty. In Euroope the last of “The Winners” took place with BOB at the Belgian Winners going to Taramont Niamh Tirnan’Og. Well done to everybody.

And as it is Christmas week: “I still believe in Santa Claus. I’m sure the children must have told me that he isn’t real. But I have never believed them (Nancy Reagan)

Westminster Invitees

Westminster differs from Crufts insofar as only the top five in every breed can guarantee on getting an entry to the show. Others, if a Champion, can apply but “the lottery” finishes as soon as the designated number is reached and 2012s (due to work at The Garden) has been reduced by 500. The top 5 Glen of Imaal Terriers are:-

GCH Cill Dara’s Fergus Of Daulton (Ch Briarhill Drumlish – Ch Daulton’s Darling Orlaith)

GCH Coleraine’s Mandalay Royalty (Ch Malsville Soldier Blue – Coleraine’s Budget Inn)

GCH Daulton’s Emerald Green (Ch Finnebair Let Freedom Ring – Ch Daulton’s Darling Darby)

GCH Finnabair Song O’My Heart (Ch Malsville Soldier Blue – GCH Finnabair Fiona The Wicked NAP)

GCH Rainbow Springs Wicklow’s Warrior Of Ber -D-Mar (Ch Pajantick Sky Masterson At Malsville – Ch Rainbow Springs Gotta Lotta Moxie)

Weekend round up…and it was a busy one!

Over in America back to back Shows at the Clermont County Kennel Club saw Grand Champion Coleraine’s Mandalay Royalty take Best of Breed both days and unbelieveably she also took Gp 3 both days as well. This follows on from a Group 1 last week and gives her nine group placings on the trot-will any Glen of Imaal Terrier in the world ever beat this?

Ireland had an International Show on the Saturday and Best of Breed was awarded to Jun Ch Torcan of Carrighglen with Best Opposite going to Ch Abberann Ennya. Reserve Dog was awarded to Int Ch Abberann Conan. The Sunday was the Club Show of the Irish Sporting Glen Club (their first since recognition) and it was a great day with lots of sunshine and lots of Glens. Best In Show was Jun Ch Torcan of Carrighglen (great weekend for the O’Tooles) with Best Bitch going to Ballyclare Sky Blue. The Sporting Club prides itself on dealing with the “total Glen” so also has an obedience competition with Garrighglen Big Boy being declared the winner. There were other competitions throughout the day and at the end an overall winner on points from ALL disciplines is declared; novice winner was to Cilleoghanin Beibhinn and open winner Ravencroft Monty.

The Dutch Glen of Imaal Terrier Association held its Championship Show and there, also in great sunshine, Best In Show was awarded to the Best Bitch Fear Funtair Bwreena with the Best Dog being Billy Tow von Au Diech. The two Reserves were Trenkie El’s Eversley Eireannah and Fiddlers Green Barney McKenna

As well as the shows there were two DNA clinics held over the weekend so Glen of Imaal Terriers, and their people, were rather busy!

Nice!

In America the Kentuckiana Cluster is the second largest cluster in terms of entries in the land, second only to a California cluster in January. About a dozen terrier breeds had their regional specialties (Bedlingtons held their National there), the full roster of big name handlers, and all 28 Terrier breeds were represented in the Group so that says how big it is.

On two of the days Bruce and Curry were the only owner-handler in the Group Ring and on the third day they were joined by the owner-handled Bedlington so not an awful lot was expected in the middle of all those professional handlers. On two days though they were actually shortlisted in the Group so “nice one” for the Glen of Imaal Terrier and congratulations to Ch Coleraine’s Mandalay Royalty.

Westminster Result

At Westminster the nod for Best of Breed Glen of Imaal Terrier went to Ch Coleraine’s Mandalay Royalty (Ch Malsville Soldier Blue/Coleraine’s Budget Inn) and Best Opposite to Ch Rainbow Springs Dermot NJP RE (Marfidal Quizzical Quirk/Gleann Butterfly). One Award of Merit was given out and went to Ch Finnabair Roisin O Tipperary(Miimoksen Deneb/Ch Finnabair Maoli)…apologies for the late mention but only the BOB & BOS were “blackberried” through

Westminster entry

As Crufts closes the Westminster entry becomes known. Anybody attending the big American Kennel Club Show can expect to see seven Glen of Imaal Terriers. They will be:-

Ch Rainbow Springs Dermot RE NJP,

Ch Daulton’s Hunter Green,

Ch Daulton’s Maeve Of Cill Dara,

Ch Finnabair Roisin O Tipperary,

Ch Finnabair Rocket’s Red Glare,

Ch Rainbow Springs Kylee of Cnoc

Ch Coleraine’s Mandalay Royalty

For the pedigree buffs it is an interesting selection of dogs. Dermot and Kylee are half brother and sister via their dam and Kylee is also half sister to Mandalay Royalty via the sire. Maeve and Hunter’s Green are also half-siblings via their sire and Roisin and Rocket’s Red Glare are brother and sister but a year apart.
