It’s tomorrow!

The EFG Companion Show (in aid of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People) is tomorrow and it’s our 10th year. The ritual sacrifices have been made to the weather Gods and the rings and tents are now up. The signs will be going up and these include the “eye” for the BVA/KC eye testing session. If coming via the A17 and turning off onto the A52 before turning right onto the B1391 don’t panic if there aren’t any signs! There is an agricultural auction at the A17/A52 turn and they have previously taken the EFG signs down because they say it distracts people from their event.

Don’t forget your dog, your lead, lots of loose change and maybe the donation of a raffle prize (or two). Photographs will be on here next week!

A few appointments left!

There are just a few appointments left at the BVA/KC eye testing session on 11th July at Swineshead PE20 3HH. Peter Bedford is officiating and appointments are needed. Sheila on 01507 313904 or email ceskyterrier@ymail.com will help. This is in conjunction with the EFG Companion Show in aid of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People so why not make a day of it?

On the 11th there will be….

……a professional groomer present to help out & answer questions.

The EFG Companion Show on July 11th (not long now) always attracts a fair few Glen of Imaal Terrier owners and prospective owners. One of the things that often causes a bit of head scratching to possibly not so experienced owners is the great heap of hair that Glens grow. It is said all the time that Glens are a hairy breed but when you actually, for the first time, encounter one…….

Besides a professional (Glen owner) groomer there will be a recently fully stripped “showing” Glen and a recently scissored down “pet” one. What do these terms mean? What do they look like? It’s easy when you have been in the breed a while but if you are new or even just thinking about owning one it can be confusing. The EFG is happy to provide a living, breathing, demonstration dictionary-anything to help-so if you’d like advice just come along.

Oh yes, fancy some supper? On the Saturday night there is supper and it’s a Chinese. Some people bring their tents and campers and stay for the weekend whilst others prefer the more homely comforts of a B&B. There is room for more tents (or whatever) but Jean jean@e-f-g.co.uk does need to know. She also needs to know if you want supper; even if you aren’t staying over you are more than welcome to join everybody for supper

It’s reminder time

The EFG Companion Show and BVA/KC EYE TESTING session is less than three weeks way. The Eye Testing appointments are going fast so if you want a specific time you need to ring up pretty quickly. Peter Bedford is testing and Sheila Atter ( ceskyterrier@ymail.com) is the lady for appointments. Full details can be found on the EFG website

It’s a wrap!

The fingers and toes have been counted and all bits of paper fished out from behind the phone and on the windowsill; the EFG Companion Show (in aid of Hearing Dogs for the Deaf) will once again be sending hundreds of pounds to the Charity!! So once again it’s the Oscar speech of thanks to:- the sponsors, the helpers, production, wardrobe and everybody and anybody who helped make the event a success.

Despite the record temperatures for the event, and advice from some quarters on not to travel, the combined efforts made it (once more) a success and this success is making its own problem in a way. As one person, who has attended every year, said as they arrived on site and looked around “Is it the Great Yorkshire (Show) or Swineshead?”. The event-and the associated work and effort-with the ever escalating costs does give an incredible day but its fast reaching the stage where its going to have to be looked at as to future direction. Rick Rubin advised Johnny Cash and Neil Diamond that the way forward was to go back to the “stripped down” sound by eliminating over production elements and everybody knows how successful that was!

Two more shots of that wonderful cake, created by Nicki, taken by Ruth and Pat.

Fun Day 130712 015

It’s tomorrow!!

The EFG Companion Show is tomorrow and, up to yet, the sacrifices to the weather God seem to have worked. The event will be signposted from as many places as possible but to avoid dual signage (which upsets the council) be aware that the eye-to signify eye testing-will be used quite a bit.

If you are coming via satnav the postcode of PE20 3HH will leave you a bit of distance away. Continue down Blackjack Road and it will be identifiable by the road cones. Yep, a water pipe was fractured yesterday (not our fault) and it could take them 3 days to repair it. We have our own slip road through the cones!

Just run it by me again….

The “Make Me An Offer” stall at the EFG Companion Show (just two days to go now) will be of interest to anybody who likes the unusual or the different. The 3D viewer and the Holly & Lil collar are a couple of the things there but how about a brand new barkbuster collar? A Glen of Imaal Terrier head sketch? What about a Toby Jug? There are even a couple of coffee table books. A rather nice set of cut glasses engraved with Glens has pride of place and they would be rather special for any Glen collector in this country as they were sent from America.

Some things, like the glasses and the Holly & Lil collar, will has a Reserve but others are what it says on the tin….make me an offer!

Just to recap

The EFG Companion Show at Swineshead (PE20 3HH) on July 13th has 2 judges; Max King will judge the Pedigrees and Jane Withers the novelty classes. Entries will be taken from 10.30pm and judging will start at Midday. A schedule can be viewed here

The BVA/KC eye testing will be done by Peter Bedford and appointments are needed. Sheila ceskyterrier@ymail.com is the lady to contact and there are a few afternoon appointments left. All dogs have to be micro-chipped now before an eye test can take place but don’t worry if yours isn’t done as micro-chipping will be available-Sue diademhill@googlemail.com would appreciate a call if your dog needs doing so she’ll know how many chips to bring.

There are rosettes first to fourth and various specials. Wagg Dog Foods and Fish4dogs have kindly sponsored some awards. There will be all the usual associated booths and stalls around the field. Obviously Hearing Dogs for the Deaf will be present and there will be a beginners agility course.

Yes, there will be toilets in the field!
