Best Puppy Jeonty Glynis Making Magic for Zippor

I was honoured to judge this breed club show, a great opportunity for me to handle a good number of this relatively rare breed, so a learning curve, as is every judging appointment. Type is varied and sometimes compromises had to be made, some I liked were carrying too much weight which did not help toplines or movement.  The forehand assembly of the breed is a special feature and poses some challenges to get well formed front, with sufficient upper arm and good front action.

Many thanks to my stewards Harold Gary and Miss Tobijnski

PGD (1, 0)

1 Samuel Jeonty Yippee Kiaye 3 years blue dog, very typical in body proportions and outline with sight rise to the loin. Strong head and good jaw and dentition.  Coat a little soft.  Good bone. Needs a little more chest.  Ears a touch heavy.  Sound moving, a little close in front.

LD (2, 1)

1 Tobijanski Romainville Becks Blue for Zippor 2 years blue brindle, excellent proportions, topline and tailset. I’d prefer a little more bone for his size.  Excellent head, eye and dentition.  I would prefer more rear angulation and a little more width in front.

OD (6, 2) Best class of the day for depth of quality and the first 2 very close.

1 Alstead Ch Golden Spurs 4 years I loved his type, proportions, coat and topline.  Scored in quarters and rear movement here.  Lovely head and eye and strongly boned.  Full of type.  I might like a little more upper arm but he pleased me a lot. BIS

2 George Ch Romainville Billy Whizz 5 years he has a very correct head shape with slight taper to the muzzle. Good coat and strong bone.  Correct rise to topline.  I’d prefer a little more angulation to his quarters. BD &RBIS

3 Hannington Boudivella Osca 3 years shorter bodied dog with good coat. Good rear.  His front action could be better.

VD (2, 1)

1 Garner Ch Johnny Be Good at Romainville almost 12 years and enjoying his day. Head of good proportions and has a good coat.  Topline a little slack now and he is a little loose on the move.  Excellent temperament.

PB (4, 3)

1 Tobijanski Jeonty Glynis Making Magic for Zippor 9 months good length to height proportions and good ribcage which needs to drop a little more. Quality feminine head and good eye pigment.  Coat just coming through.  Sound, typical mover.  She needs a little more confidence.  I’d prefer a touch more bone and hope this might develop. BPIS

JB (2, 1)

1 Rogers Jeonty Jyn a New Hope 15 months, she is a very good mover and has good body length with good coat and good rise over the loin. Her skull could be flatter.  Good bone.  Eyes could be a shade darker.

PGB (3, 1)

1 Hannington Boudivella Tegan 2 years old, won on coat and front action here. Could be a little stronger in foreface and a touch more length to her but she carried herself well.  Sound at both ends.

2 George Romainville Izzy Wizzy 2 years a real teenager in the body and dipping in her back on the day. A lovely head and eye and strong bone.  Her front action is disappointing.  Coat needs to harden up.

LB (3, 1)

1 Alstead Sigrid Helga at Pantcottage 2 years blue brindle bitch of excellent type with good body length which could have more rise to the loin. Very good head, ears, coat and movement. BB &BOS

2 Rogers Jeonty Minnie Meme 3 years a little shorter in body not helped by carrying maximum weight. Good bone and sound and typical on the move.

OB (3, 0)

1 George Romainville Maggie May 3 years scored in type and topline here. Could be better in tail carriage but I liked her substance and topline and movement. In the challenge her rear action was not so steady.

2 Rogers Ch Jeonty Meme Fern 5 years same type but carrying too much weight and this shows in her topline. Good chest with slight bow.

3 Sag Ch Wickholm Breaking Dawn 2 years looked a teenager and needs to drop in chest and develop in body. Very good head and eye and ears.  Topline a little flat.  Very good mover. Needs more chest and front legs could be more bow.

VB (4, 2) 2 excellent bitches.

1 Sage Jeonty Lola May at Wickholm 10 years, lovely type, carrying maximum weight which detracts from her topline. Excellent chest.  A very good mover at both ends.  Scored in front action and ears. RBB & BV

2 Samuel Jeonty Red Clover 12 years I loved the type and body shape of this bitch, shown in hard condition and with well-developed topline. Just shows her age a little in her front action.  Good head.  Ears not as neat as winner.

Glen of Imaal Terrier Enthusiasts and Fanciers Club   23rd April 2017

Thank you to the committee for asking me to judge the open show. Overall the dogs were reasonably well presented, there is an improvement in the mouths but not in overall breed type. The bitches are stronger in type than the dogs.

PG Dog: Tobjanski Romanville Becks Blue For Zippor. Good bite with good dark eyes strong head, good bone overall a very balanced dog. Moved well, well muscled. Could improve on presentation.

Limit Dog: 1st Rodgers Gleann Dynamo Man at Jeonty (Fin Imp) BD. Good bite strong foreface well set ears, pleasing shoulders good overall balance moved with purpose. 2nd Alsteads Golden Spurs RBD first judged this young dog in 2014 at Driffield he has matured well, lovely expression with a strong jaw giving a scissor bite. Good dark eye, well placed ears. Good strong neck going into well placed shoulders, his hind quarters have strengthened but not moving his best today.

Open Dog; Romainville Fast ‘N’ Furious At Wickholm. Not on his best behaviour today give his handler a hard time. Good head, strong mouth , dark ears with well set ears, good front with strong hindquarters. Pity he wouldn’t behave.

Veteran Dog: Hadley Ch Donvalset Rebus BV. This dog surprised me!!! Very good length of neck, strong chest and hindquarters defiantly did not look his age, well muscled and really would love to see him stripped out just goes that you can not judge a dog until you have placed you hands on it. Thoroughly enjoyed his day. Thank you for bringing him.

Puppy Bitch: Hannington Boudivella Tegan BP. Mouth good, still very much a baby good dark eye, loose in shoulders but good hindquarters very feminine just needs to concentrate.

Junior Bitch: Sage Wickholm Breaking Dawn BB & BIS. 16months old, very good proportions with a good scissor bite, dark nose, well placed ears good neck going into strong shoulders and forequarters good tight feet. Strong loin with good hindquarters which she uses well on the moved. Her overall profile is lovely.

PG Bitch:   Rodgers Jeonty Mini MeMe BOS. Lovely head with good scissor bite, nice dark eye needs a bit of work on her coat moved out well .

Open Bitch: Ch Begrorrey Madam Defiance Very good proportions on this bitch, good bite , nice dark eye well placed ears, strong neck with good front and forequarters well ribbed body with strong hindquarters just lack the enthusiasm on the moved but loved when set up.

Veteran Bitch: Seall Ch Brockland Belle Bregrorry lovely feminine lady she still has it all, Very well balanced and good ratio’s. Wasn’t moving her best today.

EFG Open Show critique

10 out of 10 for one of the fastest critiques ever!

Glen Of Imaal Enthusiasts And Fanciers Club – 17/04/16

My thanks to EFG for the invitation and the honour of judging their 20th anniversary Open Show. I watched my first Glen Show way back at a venue in Howden (Goole) and am delighted that the breed and exhibitors still retain their enthusiasm and friendliness and I really enjoyed my time with you all.

Puppy Dog (3,0)

  • Tobijanski: Romainville Becks Blue for Zippor. A 10 month blue boy winning this class on his movement and confidence. Has a good bite, decent size of teeth but his head is still relatively narrow. Strong through his neck to a decent lay of shoulder and reasonable front. Topline was pleasing spoiled a tad by his tail carriage. Still a lot of maturing to do.
  • Noon: Jeonty Diamond Ring. 11 month wheaten more mature than 1 with a bit more width to his skull. Dentition was good as was his neck and forehand. Overall profile was very nice however he would not walk on this surface and ruined his chance completely.
  • Smith: Romainville Bilbo Baggins. 11 month wheaten of decent shape and size but tad high on rear and also not moving at his best.

Junior Dog (3,0)

  • George: Rock Buster at Romainville. 11 month blue boy with good mouth, eyes and still to develop in skull. Good fore and good depth to chest with pleasing topline. Outshone the others on his movement. Best puppy dog losing out in the challenge as he is slightly too tall for my preference.
  • Hannington: Boudivella Osca. 15 month wheaten, reasonable development in head, mouth ok, bit narrow in front but moved pretty well.
  • Noon: Jeonty Diamond Ring. Still hated the floor but would love to see him on a different surface.

Post Grad Dog (3,1)

  • Samuel: Jeonty Yippe Kiaye. 2 year grey with strong muzzle and good bite. Well sprung ribs giving good width to fore. Profile ratios were good but would have preferred more drive from the rear.
  • Squires: Bendikes Edward Bear at Squiresbeach. 4 year blue not having the front of 1 or movement today.

Limit Dog (5,1)

  • Rogers: Gleann Dynamo Man at Jeonty. 17 month eye catching blue boy that I really liked. He still needs to mature to compete with the big boys but has all the credentials to do so. Presented a lovely profile with good ratios and really balanced triangles in profile movement. Definitely one for the future.
  • Hogburn: Pajantic Star Trooper. A 3 year old dog that also catches one’s eye. Decent head and sound front. Topline ok but tad bum high. Lovely free moving dog with good reach.
  • Davis: Donvalset Rafferty at Viahinnis. 4 year old blue dog I also liked the look of but couldn’t match the movement of 1 & 2.
  • Howarth: Donvalset Liffy at Arkview.

Open Dog (3,1)

    1. Rogers: Ch. Bregorrey Wannabe Victory by Jeonty. 4 year old blue fully mature dog with good width to skull, strong jaws and good teeth. Strong in front, well-sprung ribs and deep chest. Good topline with strong loin and powerful rear quarters. Lovely free moving dog. Best Dog, Reserve Best in Show and Best Opposite Sex in Show.
  • Sage: Romainville Fast ‘N’ Furious at Wickholm. 3 year old with good head and neck and well laid shoulders. Bit out in front, but chest deep and well sprung. Powerful body, well-muscled rear but couldn’t match movement of 1. Reserve Best Dog.

Veteran Dog (4,2)

  • Barnes: Brockland Blackadder at Malsville. 11 year blue dog showing his age a little but has a lovely head and still got a good mouth. Strong well-laid shoulders and body. Showing a little weakness in his rear end which ultimately cost him in the veteran challenge.

  1. Garner: Ch. Johnny Be Good at Romainville. A 9 year old red wheaten, very eye-catching with good profile and condition. Bit too much out in front for me and over-trimmed.

Puppy Bitch (2,0)

    1. George & Sullivan: Romainville Razzamatazz. 10 month blue with decent width to head, good bite and eyes. Well-made front and reasonable depth to chest. Profile pretty good but still a tad high on the rear. Quite a bit more mature than 2.
  • Rogers: Jeonty Mini Me Me. 10 month wheaten who seems more of a late developer than 1, narrower through her skull but head is balanced. Still a bit loose in front but has nice spring to rib of a good length and short loin. Didn’t do herself justice on the move though from another ring I did see her go better later.

Junior Bitch (0,0)

Post Grad Bitch (2,0)

  • Baldock: Ellerton Dusky Beauty. 3 year blue with a lot to say. Strong head, jaws and teeth and well-made forehand. Well-sprung ribs and well-covered! Overall pleasing shape and was very good on the move.
  • Studd: Wickholm Gone in Sixty Seconds. 2 year wheaten who hasn’t matured yet. Narrower in skull than 1 though still got enough strength to jaws and teeth. Good profile but would prefer tad more rear angulation. Moved well.

Limit Bitch (2,0)

  • Hannington: Romainville Uptown Girl. 4 year dark blue bitch with balanced good shaped head and good mouth. Pretty good front, deep chest and good rib/loin ratio. In crisp coat and out-moved 2 but would like her action a bit freer.
  • Squires: Young May Moon. Another 4 year old blue not having the head of 1 but has a good bite. Good lay of shoulder but front left turned out bit too much. Bit longer in loin than 1 and her movement was erratic, hopped several times.

Open Bitch (2,0)

  • Seall: Ch. Bregorry Madam Defiance. 4 year old blue bitch that I really like. Strong well-balanced head, well-made fore with good chest depth, spring of rib and spot on rib/loin ratios. No weakness in topline and a lovely profile. Very sound on the move with plenty of reach. Just preferred her overall balance to the dog in the challenge. Delighted to award her Best Bitch, Best of Breed and Best in Show.
  • George: Romainville Rock On Ruby. 3 year wheaten bitch with decent head and jaw. Good lay of shoulder but front not that of 1. Bit leggier than I would prefer.

Veteran Bitch (4,0)

A class I was spoiled in and great to see the quality of these “old?” girls

  • Seall: Ch. Brockland Belle Bregorry. 11 year old darling of a blue bitch. This girl screams Glen at you. Being picky, I would prefer a bit more rear angulation but very well-balanced, has great ratios and today out-moved most of the entry. Super girl just outdone today by her daughter. Delighted to give her Reserve Best Bitch and Best Veteran in Show.
  • Baldock: Ch. Jeonty Maybe Daysee. Wheaten bitch coming up to eight. Another super girl with all the correct attributes. Very sound and well-constructed, just lacking the free movement of 1.
  • Sage: Jeonty Lola Mat at Wickholm. Litter sister to 2 and very similar. Another lovely girl.
  • Samuel: Jeonty Red Clover
