It has to be just “brains” this week.

This week, after Tula last week, it has to be the full fanfare for BRAINS and such talent has to be a “standalone” announcement!

Kelli Whitfield writes about Finnabair Winston O’Reilly: The AKC offers a versatility title, Versatile Companion Dog, for dogs who complete specific titles in three performances events: obedience, agility and tracking. In order to earn a VCD1 the dog must earn the companion dog title(CD) in obedience, agility titles in both standard agility (NA/ NAP) and jumpers with weaves(NAJ/NJP) from either the regular classes or the preferred classes(preferred classes have lower jump heights)  and a tracking title (TD/TDU.) There are 4 levels for VCD titles and the link to that is here: http://www.akc.org/events/vcd-titles/requirements/   In 2015 only 3 terriers earned VCD1 titles and Winston was one of the three terriers and the first Glen of Imaal Terrier to ever earn an AKC VCD1. There is a huge 300 page file that shows all AKC stats for 2015 if you are a numbers person and want to check it out. The terriers are on page 255 for VCD1:http://images.akc.org/pdf/events/2015_AnnualStatistics.pdf?_ga=1.181988260.2005385905.1387200025

Big entries for the Montgomery Cluster.

Leading on the “Montgomery Weekend” as this is THE one on the American circuit to see big entries of Glen of Imaal Terriers and this year was no exception. Hatboro 1 starts it off and it was a BOB for Abberann Torcan with his daughter, Kilkenny Across The Universe at Setanta Best Opposite Sex. Hatboro 2 saw Cormac McCarthy waved to the Top Spot and the nod going to Tipperary Cora Countess of Grantham for Best Bitch. Number 3 Show of the weekend is Devon with the Glen entry higher again. Abberann Torcan added to his tally with once again his daughter, Kilkenny Across The Universe at Setanta, Best Bitch. Number 4 is the mighty Montgomery Terrier Show and nothing could be found to top the best weekend of their careers (up to yet) of Abberann Torcan & Kilkenny Across The Universe at Setanta as they were waved again to the two top spots!

Kilkenny Best of my Love and Kilkenny Love and Happiness flew the breed flag in the Brace Group and were rewarded with Group 2

The AKC system has dogs “in the classes” and from the classes Winner Dog & Bitch is decided and these two compete for BOW. It is the points gained in the classes that make you a Champion and then you go into the Best of Breed class (often known as Specials). So the Winners are equally important when trying to make a dog up in the States. Hatboro 1 was a great start for recent import Gleann Cotton Cody with Winners Dog and Daulton’s Caoimhe of Pine Meadow Winners Bitch. Hatboro 2 WB Daulton’s Caoimhe of Pine Meadow again and WD Coleraine Here Comes The Sun. Here Comes  The Sun was WD again at Devon with  Finnabair Shorlyne Summer In The Caatskills  WB. Montgomery saw Finnabair Caatskill Lightening on the Shorelyne and Finnabair Shorlyne Caatskill Comedy Tonight take the two Winners awards with Summer and Lightening also taking the Sweepstake Best of Sex and Best Opposite. (Sure somebody will tell me if all those similar names are in the wrong way around!)

Back in the UK South Wales Kennel Association was rather a good day for the Pajantick pair with Star Trooper taking the Dog CC with Best of Breed and Pajantick Razamataz Best Puppy. Bitch CC, making a long trip over from Ireland positively easy on the way home, was Stiubhard Bellatrix L’Estrange with the two Reserves to Boudivella Osca and Romainville Fade To Grey. A big first at the show was a Glen competing AND WINNING the YKC Stakes-the first one ever for the breed. Congratulations to Romainville Becks Blue For Zippor.

In Finland Tuulos Puppy Show saw Highlanders Dream Casper the Glen of the day and in the Turkku area the Glen people got together for a walk and a day out which is always nice.

Glen Brains were also working well as Laura Trainor reports:- Reporting on the other than conformiation competitions of the week. Jeff Dairiki & Sandra Distefano’s GCH Keadeen’s Blue Boy for Bluesette CA was the first Glen to earn his RATCH Barn Hunt title. Their Kilkenny’s Love and Happiness earned his RATO title. Laura Trainor’s CH Rainbow Springs Kylee of Cnoc CD RE OAP OJP OFP RATS CGCA earned another Barn Hunt Master qualifying score. Her GCH PACH Niamh of Cnoc CD PCD BN RE MXP7 MXPS MJP6 MJPB JE RATS CGCA earned three more Agility Master Standard qualifying scores bringing her to a total of 75 which earns her the Master Standard Preferred Gold title. Whilst elsewhere in the US Kelli Whitfield sends: Finnabair Winston O’Reilly VCD1 CDX BN GN RE JE CA THDA RATS CGCA NW2 TDCH earned his Master Barn Hunt Title(RATM) today. The last two years Winston has been sidelined with cruciate tears first on the left side and then again this spring on the right side so this was a long time coming and this was Winston’s first event after his surgery this spring. Two stainless steel legs later and lots of rehab but barn hunt is so much fun for this guy.

Many, many congratulations everybody!!

All that can be said is WOW!

It’s the top slot today, and so it should be, as Finnabair Winston O’Reilley, BN, RA, GN, CD, JE, THDA, TD, VCD1,NAP, NJP, CGCA, NW1, RATS, RE, CAT, can now add CDX (AKC Companion Dog Excellent, Open Obedience Title) to that long, long list. He’s the first Glen of Imaal Terrier to earn Companion Dog Excellent under AKC rules and a long time ago there was one under KC rules, are there any others out there?

Great work Mark and Winston, you do us all proud!

Oaks (Philadelphia) has four days of shows and was two Best of Breeds and one Best Opposite for Tipperary That Girl, one BOB and 3 Best Opposites for Ber-D-Mar Sweet William O’Shea and Ber-D-Mar My Dream of You Aoife took the other BOB. A weekend of four shows in Ohio saw Abberann Torcan take 2 Best of Breeds and 1 Best Opposite with Emerald Isle Keely with Daulton one BOB and three BOS. Daulton’s Rory may “only” have taken one Best of Breed but he topped the lot with Owner Handler Group 1.

Congratulations.

Winston, 2 qualifying scores to more than give him CDX

Winston, 2 qualifying scores to more than give him CDX

Is it quietening down?

Not many shows to report upon but as October advances some Glen of Imaal Terrier enthusiasts are still out and about. At South Wales Kennel Association Gleann Dynamo Man at Jeonty was Best of Breed and Best Puppy (an unusual thing to write in this breed) with the Bitch CC being awarded to Romainville Fade To Grey. The two Reserves were Romainville Billy Whizz & Donvaleset Domino.

Over in America Mad River Valley KC saw Daulton’s Conan from Cill Dara take Best of Breed and Abberann Torcan kept Group Notice of Glens up with 2 back to back Group 2s at Kankakee.

Finnabair Winston O’Reilly has been increasinging to his “letter total” and can now add R.E. (Rally Excellent) after qualifying in Alabama.

Well done all!

From strength to strength

It’s just got to be a WOW for Glen of Imaal Terriers and their owners.

Glentyrs Lady Isabelle at Castlerock was BOB at Lakeland Winter Haven. The Terrier Association of Oregon saw the breed in the Owner Handler Group Placings with a number four for Keadeen’s Blue Boy For Bluesette and he was joined in Tallahassee by Ber-D-Mar Bally Griffin of Greystone, BN, RN, CGCA, JE, RATN, NW1 with two Group 3s in Owner Handler. Griff took his 2nd major so is well on the way to wearing titles both ends. Also at Tallahassee GCH Finnabair Ardmore Ned was following on from his Westminster win with a full set of BOBs and Group placings. Mark Brown is the man to quote for the other Tallahassee Glen happening “Today, Finnabair Winston O’Reilly, under fine handling from Kelli, earned his 3rd leg and title in Preferred Novice Standard Agility. This title completes his triple crown of AKC titles in Tracking, Companion Dog, Preferred Novice Jumpers and Preferred Novice Standard Agility. These four titles complete all the requirements for the AKC Versatility Companion Dog Title.” These are incredibly his 10th (and soon to be 11th) title! Another end of the name title for Ch. Niamh of Cnoc with her earning her PAX (Preferred Agility Excellent) title. She had to earn 20 Double Q’s (qualify in the Master Jumpers and Standard courses on the same day). The first Glen to be awarded the title.

In Norway at the International Show at Bo Telemark BOB was  Marfidal Rohjaton Pohmu CACIB and BOS Glenrosedale Aoibheann Nion Rós CAC, CACIB  and she became also Norwegian and Nordic Show Champion.  Rosears Humpty Dumpy was a CAC dog and also became Norwegian Show Champion.

Glen of Imaal Terrier people like to keep out and about” At South Wales Kennel Association the Challenge Certificates went to both ends of the age scale with veteran Donvaleset Rebus taking the dog ticket & BOB whilst the bitch ticket went to the puppy bitch Bonny Nell. Good few days!

Glen of Imaal Terriers have been showing how rounded they still are as a breed.

From Mark Brown: Finnabair Winston O’Reilly RN, BN,CD, THD, TD, ETD and his handler Kelli became the first Glen team to earn a barnhunt title as well as earning a first place ribbon today in North Carolina.  Another Glen, Rainbow Springs Oliver Twist also earned a leg working with Monique Anthony.  For those not familiar with barn hunt, in the novice trial, the dog and handler must work in a simulated barn with stacked hay bales and hay bale tunnels and find hidden rats secured in a pvc tube.  There are 3 tubes but only one holds the rat.  The dog must indicate the correct tube which is then called by the handler.  The dog must also jump up on the hay bales and run a specified tunnel made of hay bales.  The dog has 2 minutes to indicate the tube and complete the exercises.  3 successful legs are required for a title. Any dog can play.  It’s Disney World for dogs. Oliver created some excitement when he disassembled the tube and the rat fell out (the rat is ok)!  For more information see barnhunt.com.

Also in America Monroe, Kylee and Daisy all qualified Intro to Quarry in Earthdog with Disy taking her first JE leg. In Finland Tampere International Show had Gleann Ungus MacGuire taking BOB and Gleann Ode Best Opposite whilst over in Ireland Ch Abberann karl was BOB and bailielands Leanbh Orga was Best Bitch. Congratulations to one and all!!

Busy people

Boy have Glen of Imaal Terriers been in the news over the last week! GCH Finnabair Song O’ My Heart started the run with a Gp2 and 3. Estonian Winner 2012 went to Ch Jeonty Flown Finnair and Abberann Karl also did a Gp2 & 3 at Munster & Cork respectively. It wasn’t only the show world were the breed was excelling as Finnabair Winston O’Reilly added a new working title and the Glen with the best name in existence, Liberty’s Phineas T Prowness of Makin People Happy, obtained a Coursing Ability title-only the 2nd Glen to do so. This award will be a new one for non American owners so do have a look at what it is. Congratulations everybody.

What a weekend!

SKC and judge Don Harley (awarding CCs for the first time) gave BOB to Ir/Ch Abberann Ennya with Dog CC to Amhard Damson Sauce (his 1st). The 2 Reserves were Amhard Ginger Snap & Multi Champion Abberann Conan.

In America GCH Finnabair Song O’My Heart took a Group 3 at Clarksville KC and GCH Coleraine’s Mandalay Royalty, in a 3 day cluster, took 3 Group placements with the last one being a Gp 2 at Long Island KC. In Finland Gleann Nollaig was Best In Show at the Haijaa Group Show.

The big show of the past week was the World Show in Austria. World Winner was Ahadiel of the Beskyd Gate and Junior World Winner was McCormac Rathnait Kilraghts. Finally Finnabair Winston O’Reilley RN BN showed the brains of the Glen of Imaal Terrier with a new working title from an ASCA trial…and being Winston it is on his own blog.

What a set of results-congratulations everybody!!!
