We all love tradition

so let us (as usual) start the new year with the Glen of Imaal Terriers “Of The Year” for the year just gone. Don’t show that sentence to any professors of the written word but hopefully it’ll be understood.

Finland is up first and the awards there (applause starting) are going to Gleann Cotton Cody and Top Puppy is Gleann Kooky Kanye. Keep it going for the UK and Abberann Conan-if a Veteran was done it would surely be him-and Jeonty Dreams A Dream with Karensbrae.

The USA “sort of” declares two. As the country is so big and there are so many (often small to European eyes) shows Top Dogs are declared from All Breed and Breed standings:-one deals with Group placings, Group wins and Best In Shows and the other deals with wins against their own breed. The official US listings are only completed to November at the moment so hopefully the finger and toe counting indulged in to work numbers out after the AKC Invitational are correct. If they aren’t sack cloth and ashes will be worn and twenty mea culpa said. It’s looking as if the American results are the same as last year with Finnabair Double D Friend of A Friend taking the number one All Breed slot and Kilkenny’s Across The Universe To Setanta the Breed slot. Considering Across The Universe took time out for a litter in 2018 that is quite a result!

If any other countries would care to send along their 2018 Top Glens when they are declared they’ll be listed on here with pleasure

Catching up with A LOT!

Holy Macaroni, Glen of Imaal Terriers have been doing us all so proud over the last couple of weeks it’s hard to know where to start!

Canada can take the honours this week as it is a very rare breed there in the showring so Groups are the thing for competition. Gleann Holy Hannah took a Gp1 and Gp4 United Kennel Club and Group 2 x2 at Moncton. Abberann Derbla 2 X Gp3 at Credit Valley Kennel Club plus Gp4 Georgina KC. Staying on that Continent and Gleann Damn Daisy, holidaying there from Finland, is getting seriously noticed with a GP3 at Central Florida KC, GP4 at Jacksonville Dog Fanciers plus BOB at the 2nd show, 2 BOBs at Treasure Coast KC of Florida, BOB Seminole Dog Fanciers Association plus GP2 at Seminole’s second show, Greater Ocala Dog Club was another BOB. BOS at Jacksonville was a new name to the blog, Long Lake Pharms Angus Fuller. Welcome to showing Glens and love your kennel name. Kilkenny’s Irish American Classic at Castlerock was BOB Space Coast Kennel Club of Palm Bay and the second Greater Ocala.

Leaving Florida and going to Pennsylvania Ber-D-Mar Sweet William O’Shea was BOB Greater Philadelphia Dog Fanciers Association & both Kennel Club of Philadelphia. Tipperary American Girl took BOB Penn Treaty KC. Heading north and west Kilkenny’s Across The Universe to Setanta, Gp4 at Pontiac KC & Greater Muskegon KC, BOB at Grand Rapids KC, Dayton KC, Lima KC with Abberann Lament for Owen Roe picking up GP4 at Kalamazoo KC and Daulton’s Wild Night of Galore OHG4 at Pontiac KC and Grand Rapids. Daulton’s Gedunk Malone from Emerald Isle picked up the last BOB of the weekend from Ohio

Northern Europe and Gleann Una Noonan has to do the lead in. Best Opposite at the Norwegian Winners as well as BOS at Jyvaskyla (Day 2) she was Best veteran in Breed day one and then took Best Veteran in Show out of over 70 veterans competing for the honour! Gleann Bigwig was BOB at the Norwegian Winners to her and Gleann Indico Indy at Jyvaskyla. Day 1 of that show saw Gleann Cotton Cody & Gleann Dear Dandelion taking the top honours. To Norway again and Rosears Master of The House was BOB Nordic Winners with BOS Pearytail Bonnie B Goode. Vaxjo (Sweden) was a BOB for Rosears Master of The House with Rosears Nugget of Gold Best Bitch. Flipping to the Danish Winners and Cairdiulacht Diarmuid MacMiolmor took Best and BOS was Rosears Nugget of Gold. Gleann Kooky Kanye was BOB at Lempäälä Puppy Show with Best Opposite Sex to Meomodo Dancing Angel. Two Best of Breeds in Germany for My Dear Fellow Calimero The Angel and in Rotterdam Amhard Manhattan took Best of Breed and his Dutch Junior Championship. Belgium to finish off and Boudivella Osca took BOB at both the Euro Dog Show & Benelux with Sigrid Helga at Pantcottage taking Best Opposite at both.

Said it had been a serious bit of breed promotion and it isn’t done yet. The “brains” department was also flying the flag. Jeonty Dreams A Dream with Karensbrae passed her Silver Good Citizens and “Poppy” (need a name) in America also took her Good Citizens and earned 90 out of 100 in Rally Advanced. Keadeen’s Blue Boy for Bluesette qualified RATCHX7 which makes him the highest qualified barn Hunting Glen in the USA. Daulton’s Captain Jack of Roseglen took his BCAT title to show how incredibly diverse Glens are as a breed.

All over the world Glen of Imaal Terrier folk regularly give their time to promote the breed at many exhibitions and events. The National Pet Show was held recently and Alfie, Basil, Gil, Inga and Murfi showed everybody just what a Glen is. It’s also great when breed owners decide to get together “just for fun” as happened recently with the New Jersey Fall Glen Gathering.

All of us are wowed with your dedication and talent to show the breed in so many places!

World Show 2018 results…but pictures Wednesday

Planes and boats and trains bought Glen of Imaal Terrier folk to Amsterdam. There are nowhere near as many of us than in some breeds but the flag was flown proudly on all three days, nobody got an easy title. First up was the Benelux Show with 27 present. Best of Breed(CACIB & 2xCAC) was Gleann Damn Daisy with BOS (CACIB & 2x CAC) to High lander’s Dream Casper. The two Reserves-and CACs- were awarded to Gleann Una Noonan and Gleann Cotton Cody. Best Junior was awarded to Madra Athas Cayleigh Chead Gera.

The biggie of the weekend was obviously the World Show itself and there were 40 Glens entered. This time the honours went to the dog with Highlanders Dream Casper getting the nod for BOB-plus the CACIB and CACs-with Daulton’s Midnight Sky of Galore Best Bitch and CACIBs etc. The two Reserves were Gleann Bigwig and Una Noonan. My Dear Fellow Cordula The Angel was Best Junior, Billy Tow Vom Au Deighton Best Veteran and Finnabair Broc Ria Arda of Gleann Best Puppy.

Group 3 specialties were the last day of showing for Terriers. Highlanders Dream Casper made it a double with Abberann Reach For The Stars Ryanne Best Bitch. The two Reserve CACs were awarded to Abberann Cosmic Cowboy and Daisy. Broc Ria was again Best Puppy and Gleann Indico Indy Best Junior.

A long list of names supported by a long list of people from different countries. Whelped in one country but owned in another was the story right through again and again. If whelped in the country of ownership often parents came from a different one. Glen of Imaal Terriers, becoming truly international….as the Finnish, Swedish, Danish, Irish, English, Dutch, German and American ringside indicated.

Great weekend and congratulations to everybody who was there

Photographs. Over the weekend we were asked if, like Crufts, it would be possible to have a record of every dog present on here? Many put photos galore on social media but not everybody is “friends” with everybody else and some just won’t do it but they will do the blog. Yep, we’ll do it but it will be Wednesday as we don’t get home until very late tonight and they have to be sorted, so that’s Wednesday’s blog sorted then!

And first in this week goes to……

Finnabair Double D Friend of a Friend took a short sojourn in Canada for the Sarnia cluster and returned home with  2 x Group 2, 1 Group 3, 1 x Group 4 and his Canadian Championship.  The first American bred Glen of Imaal Terrier to obtain it. Finnabair DD Ain’t It The Life was also in Canada and collected three Group 4s. In Scotland Bon Accord is the local show for Jeonty Dreams A Dream with Karensbrae and it was rather a good one for a finish to her puppy career. We’ll start off in Europe as usual and what a start in Finland. At Lahti 2 day International Show Gleann Cotton Cody was Best of Breed, Gleann Una Noonan Best Bitch, but then he went onto Group 1 and BIS 4!!! The UK has Any Variety Not Separately Classified which means all the dogs from the various groups show together. It can be daunting but sometimes Glens can do it as ably illustrated by Jeonty Glynis Making Magic for Zippor who was Best NSC at Oswestry.

Great weekend everybody!!

She’s the first Glen to earn this title-such a wonderful girl”

Fabulous couple of weeks everybody and congratulations to all!

It’s nearly Easter

and Glen of Imaal Terrier owners are adding rosette colour to their Easter displays. An excellent weekend for the Gleann Kennel with Cotton Cody and Damn Daisy taking Best of Breed & Best Opposite in Tallinn with Ungus MacGuire taking the top award at Vaasa International over Balloo Girl.

A cluster of shows in Massachusetts saw 2 Best of Breeds for Ber-D-Mar Sweet William O’Shea (with a Gp4 at Cheshire KC) over Daulton’s Tupelo Honey of Galore but she flipped it around at Trap Falls by getting the big rosette over him.
