Group placings galore!!

Glen of Imaal Terriers are certainly getting noticed in Groups at the moment.

In the USA Kilkennys Across the Universe at Setanta took a Group 1 at Kokomo Kennel Club, Keadeen Second Star To the Right a Group 3 at Coeur D’Alene and Finnabair Double D friend of a Friend a Gp 4 at Rhineland Kennel Club. The Owner Handler Groups are turning into a positive triumph for the breed with Keadeen’s Sir Emmet Mingus Glas annexing BOTH a Owner Handler Best In Show and Reserve Best In Show. Kilkenny’s Midleton of Irish Spirit also notched up an OHG1 as did Tipperary American Girl!

Canada may have only recently recognised Glens but recognised they certainly are with a Group 3, Group 4 and Best Puppy in Group for Gleann Holy Hannah and Groups 2 and 3 for Abberann Phelan.

In Europe there may not be the Group placings but there are certainly the dogs getting shown. At the Danish Terrier Club Gleann Cute Cocoon was Best of Breed and the Estonian Winners was a success for Gleann Flatbone Stiubhard with Gleann Damn Daisy Best Opposite. Helsinki International was a win for Gleann Cotton Cody with Damn Daisy once again Best Bitch. She made it three in a row at the Latvian Winners, this time to Gleann Bigwig. Turri Show was a BOB for Gleann Dear Dandelion and Best Dog was Gleann Eager Edgar

The UK saw a run of SKC, Bath, Southern Counties and the Glen Association Open Show with the top places being shared around. Scottish Kennel Club was a BOB for Amhard High Flyer with Sigrid Helga at Pantcottage taking the Bitch CC. Bath was Golden Spur and Romainville Whistle Dixie with Southern Counties seeing the first bitch BOB with Bregorrey Madam Defiance and Pajantick Razamatazz Best Opposite. The Glen Association saw Amhard High Flyer take home Best in Show with Reserve Best in Show going to the Reserve Best Dog Rollo The Great at his first ever official dog show! Best Bitch there was Romainville Razzamatazz. Best Puppy was Boudivella Tegan with Best Veteran Donvaleset Domino.

Besides the shows Glens were also at Burghley (courtesy of Nicki Atkin) for the Living Heritage Fair and Ciarin and Quinn were adding titles behind their names with RATCHX and Junior Earthdog. Monique sends special news of Ginny……qualififying for the 3rd time in Novice Buildings so earning her title today at the Performance Scent Dogs (PSD) trial in Westford, MA! She also learned two new scents this week, Anise & Clove, and was able to detect them during the Target Odor Tests.  “Star” though of this whole round up is summed up in owner Louise Lopez’s own words “I am so very, very proud of Tula! She earned her NW3 Elite title in Corvallis, Oregon today. This means she’s passed Nose Work 3 with a perfect score three times and is now qualified to compete at the Elite Level. She’s the first Glen to earn this title-such a wonderful girl”

Fabulous couple of weeks everybody and congratulations to all!

It’s nearly Easter

and Glen of Imaal Terrier owners are adding rosette colour to their Easter displays. An excellent weekend for the Gleann Kennel with Cotton Cody and Damn Daisy taking Best of Breed & Best Opposite in Tallinn with Ungus MacGuire taking the top award at Vaasa International over Balloo Girl.

A cluster of shows in Massachusetts saw 2 Best of Breeds for Ber-D-Mar Sweet William O’Shea (with a Gp4 at Cheshire KC) over Daulton’s Tupelo Honey of Galore but she flipped it around at Trap Falls by getting the big rosette over him. The big news though are the three Glens showing the brains and putting initials behind their names. Tipperary Sweet Rosie O’Grady got her Canine Good Citizens, Griffin earned his third qualifying score in Rally Excellent with a second place and now adds “RE” to his titles and Niamh became a Master Barnhunt titled girl.

Great going everybody, you all do the breed proud.

Quite a weekend!

Glen of Imaal Terriers were certainly been getting the breed name known last weekend. In Finland at the Royal Canin Puppy Show the Gleann team took BIS3 breeder (all breeds)!! Glen breed judging saw Gleann Flatbone Stiubhard take BOB withBest Bitch. The day before at Lahti International Flatbone’s sire Gleann Cotton Cody had taken BOB with Gleann Elite Ellie Best Opposite. In Estonia at Narva International Rosears Kate The Duchess was BOB and became a new Estonian Champion. In Canada Gleann Holy Hannah took Best Baby Puppy in Group both days of the weekend.

Laura Trainor writes news of Niamh “Niamh earned her PAX 2 Agility title on Friday at the Onondaga Kennel Association Agility trial. To earn this title she had to qualify in both the Standard and Jumpers courses on the same day 40 times. She is a super Agility Glen!”

Kelli Whitfield and Griffin were also having a great weekend “Griffin had a great time with two days of agility. Griffin qualified in 6 runs with 3 first places and 3 second places plus a new title. My little superstar is on fire!”

Brains and Beauty-the breed had it all last weekend. Congratulation to everybody

Crufts critique 2017

Many thanks to judge Alan Small for the speed of his critique-it’s appreciated!

Glen of Imaal Terriers.

My thanks to the Kennel Club for the invite to judge the Glen’s, and for the hospitality extended to us all. Not having judged the breed for a while I was looking forward to the day. I was not dissapointed, with some quality dogs to go over, so thanks for the lovely entry. The problem with beeing 3rd. in the ring was plainly obvious at the start of judging when dogs hoovered their way round the green beige !

Couple of points worth mentioning is the over all length of the Glen is important to give the correct balance to the breed. The length from withers to set on is only slightly longer than the height from wither to the ground and the top line from withers to the loin should rise slightly and be in a continuous line….not, I might add, be dipey or Dandyish. Only a couple of iffey bites present. Loved my winners and was quite shocked when I found my Res. CC bitch , from veteran, was the dam of my BOB winner. Type will out !

Special thanks to my two Ring Stewards, Jean Hay & Joyce Setterfield, who enjoured a long day with three breeds to cover, cheers ladies. To all, enjoy your dogs, I did.

A new star arises!

It isn’t that often a ringside is in agreement but yesterday around the Glen of Imaal Terrier ring at Crufts, just before the finger was pointed for Best Bitch, there was an audible sense of people feeling a new star arising. Judge Alan Small picked up the psychic surge and there it was: Bitch CC Crufts 2017 to 14 month old Wickholm Breaking Dawn handled by 12 year old Emily Sage. Then it was Best of Breed over Gleann Cotton Cody who certainly wasn’t suffering from jet lag as he had flown in the day before. The two Reserves were Jeonty Lola May of Wickholm (dam of Breaking Dawn) and Golden Spurs. Best Puppy went to Sigrid Helga at Pantcottage.

There were the overseas visitors, there were the long distance drivers, there was the excellent Bring and Share with more stuff than ever before, there were the photographers and the admirers but the day belonged to Emily and “Lola’s Girl” Breaking Dawn. We were all very proud!

Many congratulations to all the above and all the first prize winners below

Eukanuba Week

It’s an American Glen of Imaal Terrier round up week as, whilst the rest of the world settles down a little for Christmas, the US show scene decamps to Florida for the big Eukanuba week.

Tuesday was Space Coast KC of Palm Bay with a Best of Breed for Kilkenny’s Across The Universe at Setanta and Gleann Cotton Cody Best of Winners and Best Opposite Sex. Wednesday was Brevard Kennel Club and Finnabair Double D Friend of a Friend took BOB with Finnabair Shorlyne Summer in the Caatskills BOS. Daulton’s Rory was BOBOH and then took Number 1 in the Owner handler Group. Thursday saw two new Champions with Cotton Cody taking BOB (he was first shown in October at Montgomery) and 10 month old Daulton’s Caoimhe of Pine Meadows getting the nod for Best Bitch.

The big event was the weekend with Terriers on the Sunday. The major results were a repeat of Tuesday with Kilkenny Across The Universe at Setanta Best of Breed and Gleann Cotton Cody Best Dog. Select Dog Finnabair Double D Friend Of A Friend and Select Bitch
Daulton’s Princess C Hatteras. Best of Winners Finnabair Caatskill Lightning On The Shorlyne

The UK has Discover Dogs and the AKC has Meet The Breeds-the Glen booth was awarded 3rd place in the Terrier Group competition.

Finally Monique writes:-Oliver qualified for the third time and earned a title in the Excellent Buildings class at a Performance Scent Dogs trial on Sunday.  This completed the requirements (3 qualifying excellent runs in each of 5 elements-Buildings, Exteriors, Containers, Distance, Speed) for the Scent Dog Excellent (SDE) overall title.  He is only the third dog to achieve the highest level in this nosework organization. Most of all, I am extremely proud of my 17 year old Glen of Imaal Terrier, who still amazes me with his motivation to work and fun loving spirit.

Well done everybody and particularly the superb Oliver!
