GLEN OF IMAAL TERRIERS

PGD. 1) Kingcottage Boogie On Basil. Delightful temperament, wheaten & in good coat & condition, nice outline, pleasing head, good skull, foreface, muzzle & dentition, well made & proportioned body, good feet & correct quarters. Moved well.

LD. 1) Pajantick Razamataz. Another youngster with pleasing head, broad skull, nice dark eye, good dentition, lighter in bone than previous winner, compact body & good quarters.

OD. 1) Gleann Dynamite Man at Jeonty(Imp Fin). I judged this exhibit in 2015 at 9 months old & awarded him the Res CC. Today I was delighted to give him his crown & BOB. Lovely head piece, strong & correct muzzle, impressive strength in neck, well laid back shoulders, good ribs, well muscled quarters, moved with drive. 2) Boudivella Osca. This young man has matured well, sadly had to take second to first again. Lovely in outline, great body proportions, correct head structure, good muzzle, ears & mouth, well laid shoulders, strong hindquarters, moved with ease. I am sure he will achieve his title. Res CC. 3) Ch Golden Spurs.

PB. 1) Jeonty Jyn A New Hope. Lovely wheaten youngster, correct texture, super shape, feminine expressive eyes, well placed ears, medium neck, good shoulders, ribcage & short loin, well set on tail with excellent quarters. Behaved as a puppy should but when settled moved very well. CC. Sired by the BOB. 2) Romainville Rock N Rolla. 8 months old, very good movement & body shape but longer than first, head has correct proportions, well placed ears, well made quarters, coat of good texture. 3) Romainville Rock On Lizzie

JB. 1) Sigrid Helga at Pantcottage. Blue youngster with pleasing head, good skull, foreface & muzzle, strength in neck, good ribcage & well constructed quarters. On the day moved better than 2nd. 2) Boudivella Tegan. Pleasing in profile, nicely constructed body, good bite & pleasing head proportions, movement sadly let her down on the day.

PGB. 1) Wickholm Daisy Duke O’Hazard. Wheaten that I liked very much, well shaped in profile, pleasing head with good skull, well balanced foreface & muzzle, well made body, rib to loin relationship is good, moved out well.

LB. 1) Romainville Maggie May. Mature lady, wheaten coat of correct texture, quite well made body & muscled quarters, not very happy with movement.

OB. 1) Romainville Uptown Girl. Found it hard to believe this lady is 6 years old. Very good in profile, good skull & foreface, good dentition, well proportioned body, strength in neck, well laid shoulders, good ribcage & bone with excellent feet, moved very well. Unlucky to meet CC winner, Res CC. 2) Wickholm Breaking Dawn. Wheaten bitch not yet two years old so not mature as first. Lovely head of correct proportions, good skull, foreface & muzzle, dark eyes & good dentition, medium neck with good shoulder placement, good quarters & movement. 3) Romainville Whistle Dixie.

What a busy weekend

Top spot for the Glen of Imaal Terrier catch up must be America this week. The beginning of October is the biggie in the US terrier world of what is known as the Montgomery Cluster which is four shows. Number one was the first Hatboro with a win for Kilkenny’s Across The Universe of Setanta with Ber-D-Mar William O’Shea Best Opposite. Hatboro 2 saw Abberann Phelan (down from Canada) make a strike for the males with Keadeen Second Star To The Right Best Bitch. Devon was a repeat of Hatboro One and that it was Montgomery and it was a triumph for the Glens that had come all the way over from the North West of America when Second Star To The Right was awarded Best of Breed (3 out of the 4 days going to bitches) and Best Dog to Keadeen Sir Emmet Mingus Glas. What a fabulous day for the Tighes to have bred both winners at such a show.

It was a double at South Wales Kennel Association as well. Gleann Dynamo Man at Jeonty took his 3rd ticket and Best of Breed whilst Jeonty Jyn a New Hope was the Bitch CC winner and Best Puppy; father and daughter The two Reserves were also a double as Boudivella Osca and Romainville Uptown Girl are a son and mother. The Gleann affix had a marvellous weekend as Gleann Holy Hannah was Group 2 in Canada, Best Puppy in Group and became a Canadian Champion one day and a Gp4 and BPIG the next, whilst in Norway Gleann Easter Eamon was Best of Breed and became a Nordic Champion to make three Champions in three different countries on the same weekend.

Tuulos had two days of shows with Jeonty Just a Dream Ansa taking BOB & Meomodo Trick or Treat taking Best Opposite one day with Rosears Master of the House & Rosears Everything U Wish The Other, BOB & BOS respectively on the other. Hyvinkaa Puppy Show saw Gleann Indico Indy get the nod for Best of Breed with Glenrosedale Dubheasa darina getting Best Bitch.

Montgomery is THE US Terrier event in more ways than one as they do agility and Barnhunt as well. Laura Trainor sends a report the Glen brains also did pretty good there with Ciaran and Quinn both getting a Q twice in Master Barnhunt, Niamh one in Master and Liam once in Instinct. Niamh also Q’d in Master Standard Agility twice and Master Jumpers once. Over in California Louise Lopez’s Sullivan was obtaining his “title ribbon for Nose Work Element Specialty Level 1 Interiors.”

Glen of Imaal Terrier. LKA December 2016

Thank you to LKA for the chance to judge & special thanks to all exhibitors for your support at this well run show. Glens are often lazy & this affects movement in the ring. Moving them a bit quicker will often increase stride length and give better drive from the rear

POST GRADUATE DOG 1) Romainville Freddies Choice. Well presented, sound in type & movement. Reserve Best Dog. 2) Jeonty Yippee Kiaye. Nice outline, well shown. Lacked maturity compared to winner. This will come.

OPEN DOG 1) Gleann Dynamo Man at Jeonty. Big powerful dog. Nice head and conformation. Best Dog.

VETERAN DOG 1) Brockland Blackadder at Malsville 1) Still a typlical Glen despite advancing years. A pleasure to handle.

GOOD CITIZEN DOG 1) Golden Spurs. Well presented, should make up well.

MINOR PUPPY BITCH. 1) Sigrid Helga at Pantcottage. Very much a baby but nice type. Has potential to become a very nice Glen.

PUPPY BITCH 1) Wickholm Breaking Dawn. A young bitch which had both type & substance. She was very well shown & moved well with purpose. Best Puppy & Reserve Best Bitch. 2) Wickholm New Moon. Nice youngster. Shown in good condition, not as forward in development as the winner.

POST GRADUATE BITCH 1) Wickholm Gone in Sixty Seconds. Good type, moved well. 2) Jeonty Mini MeMe. Nice outline & conformation. Lacked a bit in concentration which affected movement.

OPEN BITCH 1) Jeonty MeMe Fern. Sound in type with good bone.

VETERAN BITCH. 1) Jeonty Lola May at Wickholm. A solid well put together Glen. Moves well & certainly has presence. Best Veteran, Best Bitch & Best of Breed. 2) Jeonty Red Clover. Sound bitch who still has the typical Glen style & attitude. Well shown.

The two critiques above means Glens have had a full set for 2016 bar one. So Steve, if you are reading this, how about Midland Counties as you were “Sir”?

Birmingham Gundog & Terrier critique

Glen of Imaal Terriers

Junior: 1) Bendikes Fidelma. Not a bad type, head okay, dark eye, good ear set and carriage. Turns front pasterns tad too much. Coat not at its best but enough coverage & good colour. Would prefer more rise over the loin & had no drive moving out. Excellent temperament.

Post Graduate: 1) Jeonty Yippee Kiaye. Another blue, very good head, eye dark & wide open black nostrils. Ears mostly in repose. Strong forechest, good shoulder & very good padded feet. Hind action okay if a bit zig zag at times. Another one whose coat needs attention.

Open: 1) Gleann Dynamo Man at Jeonty. This is a dog I didn’t care much for as a youngster but my word has he come on. More balanced & more together on the move (tad long hock to heel). Has bodied up well, front assembly very good, head planes correct & ears held nicely. Black nose & good eye colour. 2 years old but all coming together. BOB and Group 2. 2) Donvaleset Rafferty at Viahninns. Shorter coupled dog. Nice head/bite but far too much hair obscuring. Would prefer a tad more length to forelegs, little rise over the loin. Not a bad mover but a bit close behind.

Thank you to exhibitors. Most dogs present needed some ringcraft training and presentation technique. All tremperaments were good.

Brotherly Group 2s

One show was bigger than the other but Glen of Imaal Terriers now have another two siblings (as well as the Abberann boys) that can record Group Placements on the same day in different countries. In Finland Gleann Dynamite Mike took Group 2 at Seinajoki International and in the UK Gleann Dynamo Man at Jeonty also took G2 at Birmingham Gundog & Terrier!

At Lahti Puppy Show (12 Glens entered) BOB went to Rosears Miss Miimos with Rosears Master of the House Best Opposite

Discover Dogs is always a great place to meet Glen of Imaal Terriers. At ExCel this weekend Misty, Dylan, Toby & Candy flew the breed flag with style & aplomb….Toby in particular showing true Glen temperament!

Good weekend everybody.

Top Glen of Imaal Terriers 2015

In the UK: Ch Romainville Billy Whizz.

In Ireland: Ch Abberann Phelan who can now have Multi Champion written in front of his name as his Dutch Championship, to add to his Irish and UK, was confirmed just before Christmas.

In Finland: Ch Gleann Una Noonan.

The USA haven’t declared officially for the end of the year but provisionally, and here it is interesting as they run two tables one on Group placings and one on breed placings. The Group table has GCH Finnabair Ardmore Ned at number one and the breed table has GCH Emerald Isle Keely with Daulton at the top-she also “manages” number 3 in Group placings also.

The UK also has announced Top Breeder, Stud Dog, Brood Bitch and Puppy. They are, respectively, Romainville, Ch/Dutch/Del Ch Jeonty Wannabe Buster, Ch Brockland Belle Bregorrey and Gleann Dynamo Man at Jeonty (who is the son of the Finnish Top Glen)

Congratulations everybody; a great year for you all!
