Forequarters stronger than rear with well boned foreleg and correct turn of foot. Shoulders broad and well laid back. In good harsh coat, neatly presented, he lacked enthusiasm on the move today.

OD (4,1) 1. White’s CH, IR, AM & SW CH Abberann Conan. Over the years many superlatives have been said about this 12yr old blue showman and I was delighted to have the opportunity to add my own. He has an excellent outline and proportions giving the impression of strength, essential in a Glen. In good coat, so well presented as always. His gentle expression belies a strong head and jaw with required correct ear set, dark eye and scissor bite. Fit for purpose, he has the desired front assembly and bone with strong hindquarters and depth of chest together with correct angulations. He is still well muscled throughout and commanded the ring with his balanced movement, tail carried gaily. Pleased to award him DCC & BIS

An appealing expression, used to advantage, making her the exhibit I’d like to have taken home with me. Good front and rear angulation with correct top line and tail set. Muscling up well for her age and in good coat. She enjoyed her debut in the ring and once settled, moved well. Handled sensitively and unfortunate to come against a more mature dog for the puppy challenge.

Glen Association Show on Sunday

The Glen Association Championship Show will be held on Sunday at Pilsley Village Hall, Peartree Road, Pilsley, Chesterfield, S45 8HU. Most will be attending via sat nav so will be putting the postcode into the machine (hence the bold). Locals to Derbyshire though, on being told that the show is at Pilsley, Derbyshire, may automatically think of the “other” Pilsley at Chatsworth. If you do end up there by mistake it is only 17 miles to the Pilsley where the show is being held so you shouldn’t miss much!

The show starts at midday and judge Ann Quinn has 20 Glen of Imaal Terriers entered for her opinion.

Haven’t a clue……

Always there is something that raises an eyebrow so let’s share an email “Okay, you’re the font of all knowledge. Have a dig in the back of the sideboard, if you still have it, and see if there is a trophy list anywhere because didn’t there used to be one at……..”.

Actually that email did more than raise an eyebrow; it made two go up. It also caused a slight cringe that “the sideboard” was known and things were, when looked, still in there nearly 25 years after the first Secretary of the Glen of Imaal Terrier Association said ten years was enough and it was time somebody else did it!

It also provided a trophy list from the 1980s but as to where things are now; maybe Anne, current Association secretary can help.

Crufts and National Terrier trophies are still known and are handed out each year. The Crufts trophy is normally given straight back!

There were 2 Tinkinswood Trophies, the Kirloe Donard Memorial Tankard, Farni Goblet, Shield and Inverary Tankard awarded at the Club Show.

The Salterswall Cup (Birmingham National)

Diademhill Shield

Pajantick Shield (awarded at Leeds)

Rhett Butler Shield

Salterswall Bowl (awarded at Welsh Kennel Club)

2 more “unnamed” shields

The Rose Trophy

Crookford Variety Shield

Eversley Patrick Spoon (services to the breed)

Such memories evoked by that list which had been absolutely forgotten. People don’t seem to do (or want) trophies anymore but does anybody know where they are?

Quieter week….

In America McKinley KC had back to back shows and BOB Glen of Imaal Terrier both days was GCH Emerald Isle’s Keely with Daulton who went on to take a group 4 one of the days. In the UK BOB at 3 Counties was Romainville Billy Wizz.

The Glen Association Open Show was smiled on by the Weather Gods. Best In Show (and Best Veteran) was Donvaleset Rebus with Best Puppy going Golden Spur, a 6 month baby at his first show. My catalogue was needed elsewhere so hopefully somebody can send the name of the Best Bitch and the 2 Reserves. Thanks to Ann Quinn they can now be filled in. Best Bitch was Young May Moon, Reserve Dog Donvaleset Liffy and Reserve Best Bitch Ch Jeonty Maybe Daysee

Well done all.

Donvaleset Rebus, Young May Moon , Golden Spur

Glen Association Open Show?

We’ve had a couple of queries about the Glen Association Open Show. We were told the details were going to be sent for here but they haven’t turned up and neither, as far as can be seen, are they in the “shows closing” section of the dog papers. Sure it’s just a hiccup in communication and Anne (anmeha@aol.com) will be able to help out if you email her.

“Special Awards” critique

The Glen of Imaal Terrier Association Championship Special Awards Classes  held on Saturday 7th December 2013 I would like to thank the Secretary and Committee for allowing me to judge the “Special Award Classes” at the breed Association’s Championship Show. It was an excellent opportunity to go over quality exhibits.

Special Award Junior Dog or Bitch (2)

1st Hardy’s Amhard High Flyer – 13 ½ month old dog who I am sure will live up to his kennel name. I was immediately impressed with his over all balance and substance. The origins of this breed require it to have great strength to enable it to pull badgers from holes, which requires strong jaws and foreface, along with a strong front and shoulders. This young man filled these requirements. Well balanced throughout. Covered the ground with purpose. 2nd Gorge & Sullivan’s Romainville Fade to Grey – very feminine 7 month old young lady. Muscular neck and strong front  and rear quarters, showing plenty of promise for one so young.

Special Award Post Graduate Dog or Bitch (8,1a)

good strong head with ample width over skull , kindest of eyes . Ample bone and muscle and correct, slightly turned out front legs. Correct hard textured coat with the soft undercoat attributed to this breed. Moved with purpose. S Grizzlemarsh Dorathea. Another bitch with a strong head so characteristic of the breed. Balanced throughout with good topline which was maintained whilst on the move. s Donvalset Liffy at Arkview

Special Award Open Dog or Bitch (5,1(a) )

1st Quinn’s Kirikee Ronan O’Gara  – Mature Dog who filled my eye from the minute he stepped into the ring. Most handsome of heads which at the same time remains strong and masculine as the breed standard requires. Lovely harsh textured coat with required soft undercoat. Excellent front assembly with powerful neck and shoulders and strong back end. Correct topline raised over the loin, which he maintained on the move. 2nd  George & Sullivan’s Romainville Miss Moneypenny – I was amazed to see that this  girl was seven years young! Different type to the winner but shown in excellent condition, with plenty of bone and muscle. Balanced bitch slightly longer in body than her height, which the standard calls for. Well proportioned throughout. 3rd Fraser’s Kirikee Celtic Warrior. 4th Squires Young May Moon

Jenny Lowe

And still on critiques from last year.

Glen of Imaal Association Championship Show

When one is giving “CC’s” for the first time it is an honour to get a good entry but when one is given the privilege of judging the Breed Club CH show it is even more so. After the storms it was lovely to see 30 out of the 37 entries at the show. My thanks go to the committee for inviting me to judge and to all exhibitors and helpers who created a warm welcoming atmosphere making the day special. Busy Weekend!

Glen of Imaal Terrier people have certainly been out and about to celebrate June beginning. First off the blocks was Southern Counties with a Best of Breed for Ch. Brockland Belle Bregorrey and Best Dog going to brother Int Ch Brockland Brayhead Lad under judge Johan Juslin.

Southern CountiesAt the Estonian Winners BOB was awarded to Gleann Una Noonan, BOS to Gleann Uaid MacDonald with the Junior Winner title going to Glenrosedale Aiobheann Nion Ros. Afterwards Glen celebrations ruled!

At the Glen of Imaal Association Open Show judge Roger Bill awarded Best In Show to Ch. Jeonty Maybee Daysee with Best Dog being awarded to Pendikes Edward Bear and Best Puppy to Amhard High Flyer.

Glen Association: BP, BIS, BDAnd from Monique Anthony: Oliver qualified in the RAT Instinct and Rat Novice classes today in Crosswicks NJ!  This is his 2nd RATN leg and he needs 1 more for a title. In the Novice class, he went through the tunnel and did the climb within a few seconds, but then attempted to get to the rat tube from the opposite side of its location in a stack of hay bales instead of going around and marking them directly.  The bales were up against the orange fencing and so he forced his body against the fencing causing it to bend out and almost hit the spectators sitting on the bench outside the ring.  He finally wrangled and crawled his way over to the tube location on the opposite side and I called it.  I love that he qualifies in dramatic fashion each time.  In NC, he broke open the tube and the rat popped out.  What a fun sport 🙂

And finally a lot of Glen of Imaal Terrier people don’t enter into Variety classes as they always feel a Glen doesn’t do that well. Bregorrey Wannabe Victory by Jeonty proved that thought faulty with taking a nicely filled NSC at Boston and then being awarded Group 2

Lots of congratulations to everybody from everybody!
