A bit quieter this weekend

The weekend before December and for many it’s the start of Christmas Shopping but some Glen of Imaal Terrier people are still out and about. The Glen Association Championship Show was judged by Ann Quinn and it was certainly worth the long trip for the Whites. Best In Show was awarded to Abberann Conan who also took Best Veteran (our oldies are having a ball at the moment) with Best Opposite Sex going to Daulton’s Midnight Sky of Galore. Best Puppy was “Conan’s boy” Abberann Cosmic Cowboy. The two Reserves were Rollo The Great and Donvaleset Brier, who is also a Veteran. West Midlands Terrier was another veteran BOB in the shape of Johnny Be Good at Romainville. Two HauHau Shows in Finland. The first one saw Highlander’s Dream Casper take BOB with Gleann Una Noonan Best Bitch. The results were reversed on Day 2 with Una Noonan being awarded BOB with Dream Casper Best Opposite.

Just a couple of shows reporting in from America. At Agathon Kennel Club Tipperary American Girl was Best of Breed and Daulton’s Captain Jack of Roseglen was Best Dog. At the second Agathon show American Girl again triumphed, plus OHG4, with Daulton’s Sailor John of Roseglen getting Best Opposite.

Griffin was adding to his alphabet of titles as he obtained his Excellent Jumpers with Weaves so he needs a lot of room now for a full shout out- Champion Ber-D-Mar Ballygriffin of Greystone BN RE NAP OJP JE CAX BCAT RATO CGCA TKP AJP

Well done all.

Midland Counties and Birmingham G & T critiques

MIDLAND COUNTIES-GLEN OF IMAAL TERRIER

May I thank the officers and committee for their hospitality. The support of the exhibitors was much appreciated, especially on a Friday. If only we could award first places to everyone.

PGD (1) George’s Rockbuster From Romainville. 2yrs blue dog. Good head with dark eye & good ear carriage. A strong neck leading to a well sprung rib. Not too long in the loin & a good length double coat. Has the desired bow to front legs & moved soundly with drive. Will only improve with maturity. BD

OD (3) 1A 1st Sage’s Romainville Fast N’furious At Wickholm. 51/2 yrs Blue dog with a good head. Correct ears, eye shape & correct scissor bite. Level gentle rise to the topline & a good broad chest. I would like to see more muscle but moved soundly.

2nd Alsteads Ch Golden Spurs Almost 4yr old blue brindle dog. Much to like and on another day positions could be reversed. Needs more drive on the move.

PB (1) George’s Romainville Rock on Lizzie. At 8 months this wheaten pup has a lot to fill out but once the muscle & maturity arrives she should turn into a nice bitch. Good angulation front & rear. Well sprung ribs. Shoulders well laid back. Nice deep chest presented with good textured double coat. Sound movement fore & aft. BP + RBB

OB (4) 1st Harley’s Ch Donvaleset Brier. At almost 10 years of age this wheaten bitch still commands in the ring. Well muscled throughout on good bone structure. Good front & rear angulation. Nice strong scissor bite, dark eye, correct ear shape & carriage. Level topline rising gently to good tail onset. Good length & texture to wiry top coat with soft undercoat presented neatly. Good broad chest with well sprung ribs. Sound movement. BB & BOB.

2nd Georges Romainville Maggie May. 3yr old wheaten bitch. Although on the smaller size she is well proportioned. Muscle will add to the overall picture as I couldn’t find any major faults. I’ll be watching her future development

Let’s hear it for Glen of Imaal Terriers

Glen of Imaal Terriers are on a roll at the moment. In the end it was nine group placements for the breed last weekend and it’s continuing on.

First call out must go to Abberann Phelan who is spreading the “Glen Gospel” in Canada with a Group 3, group 2, two Group 1s and a Reserve Best In Show. In the States Kilkenny’s Across The Universe at Setanta was having a ball as well with a Group 3 at Mattoon Kennel Club and a Group 2 at Sandemac KC. Abberann Torcan was Best Opposite both days. Across The Universe was also BOB at Illinois Capitol Kennel Club with Abberann The Lion King Best Dog. Not a bad weekend at all for the US arm of Abberann! Over in Washington State Keadeen’s Second Star To The Right was repeating her Montgomery success with a Group 1 & 2

Glen folk continually celebrate the power of the Veterans and at Birmingham Gundog & Terrier 11 year old Johnny Be Good at Romainville was Best of Breed. Best Bitch and Best Puppy was Jeonty Jyn a New Hope. Discover Dogs was on in London and the Glen booth was busy, busy, busy for both days. Appreciation to the dogs and people who flew the flag there and they were Sean Percy and Lesley with Leia, Geraldine & Alan Statham Cook with Misty, Lynne, Gordon & Katey Fraser with Dylan, Sarah Henson with TinTin and Gabriel (who was an honorary Glen for the day), the Locke family with Fina and Nicki Montford who was main supporter and assistant.

The brains side of the breed is also doing well with Ginny earning her AKC Scent Work Exterior Novice title in Maine on Saturday and something totally new to report. Keadeen’s Darling Violet earning her CGCA. This is an AKC Community Canine test, does the breed have anymore?

Congratulations everybody.

Top Glens 2013

Not many Top Glen of Imaal Terriers have been announced yet but as it’s already mid January let’s hear applause for the ones that have.

DENMARK: Ch Hammersmolles Idunn owned by Gitte Thornsen

FINLAND: Ch Gleann Ungus MacGuire owned by Tiina Assinen

UK: Ch Johnny Be Good at Romainville owned by Cresta Garner

USA: GCH Liberty’s Darren of Daulton owned by Jody Daulton and Pam Estes

Well done all and when your country announces their “of the Year” do let us know!

Busy, busy weekend!

Glen of Imaal Terrier people are still enthusiastically out and about. In Finland at Porvoo Best of Breed was awarded to Rosears Finavia with BOS to Rosears Humpty Dumpty and at the Helsinki Group Show Rosears Heads or tails was Best of Breed. At the Irish Sporting Glen event an Overall Champion is awarded and this went to Bailielands Leanbh Orga who picked up Best Bitch, Reserve Best In Show and other points along the way from the various classes. Best Dog was Ballyclare Luke

In America Laura and Ch Niamh of Cnoc go from strength to strength in the agility world. The AKC agility titles are earned by qualifying at events and Niamh, after a week of agility, has added three double Qs (qualifying 6 times out of 6).

In the UK Darlington Championship Show saw a very unusual event, a Glen was shortlisted in the adult Terrier Group. The breed was shortlisted in the Puppy group there only last year but can anybody remember when the last adult group was? Breed judge, Jeff Luscott, awarded Best of Breed to Johnny Be Good at Romainville with the words “what a performance!” and obviously Group Judge Andrew Hunt felt the same way. The Bitch CC at Darlington went to Jeonty MeMe Fern and Best Puppy was Amhard High Flyer.

Huge Congratulations to everybody!!!!!!

Over Whitsun weekend..

….Tipperary American Girl became a New Champion and as it is number four for breeder Jo Lynn she becomes an AKC Breeder of Merit. Also in the States GCH Liberty’s Darren of Daulton had two Group 4s at back to back to shows in Ohio.  At Iitti Group Show in Finland Rosears Heads or tails was Best of Breed and Rosears AbloomingBud Best Opposite Sex.

Bath Championship Show saw Glen of Imaal Terrier judge Paul Eardley award the BOB and CC to Johnny Be Good at Romainville with Reserve Dog going to Romainville Billy Wizz. Best Bitch went to Bregorrey Madam Defiance and the Reserve to Brockland Belle Bregorrey. Jeonty MeMe Fern took the Best Puppy award. Madam Defiance makes number three from the litter to take a senior award (in the UK) whilst still in Junior; has there been a litter since the famed Ginger’s Fashion/Princess Leia kids to win so well so young?

Birmingham National Results

Glen of Imaal Terriers were judged at Birmingham National 2013 by Roger Thomas. He awarded Best Of Breed to Ch Johnny Be Good at Romainville with the Bitch Ticket going to Ch Donvaleset Brier. The two Reserves were Int Ch Brockland Brayhead lad and Donvaleset Domino (a nice double for Don & Val Harley after their “interesting” few months). Best Puppy went to Jeonty MeMe Fern. Well done all.

Mid October but people are still out.

The latest Glen of Imaal Terrier champion was made up in the UK when Johnny Be Good at Romainville got his 3rd CC (with Best of Breed) at South Wales Kennel Association. The Bitch CC was Ch Winnie Wanna Make Music By Jeonty and the two Reserves Romainville Typhoon and Romainville Aoife at Pajanticks respectively. Best Puppy went to Bregorrey Madam Defiance.

Over in America GCH Finnabair Song O’My Heart continued her Group tally with another pull into second place and Laura Trainor continues to show the versatility of the breed “We did agility this
weekend in Syracuse NY. Kylee Q’d in Open Std and Niamh Q’d in Nov FAST and Larry and Karen
Nattrass’ Quinn and Molly both earned Qs in their CAT runs at Hollister.

Congratulations all and thanks to David Seall for the following photographs

Glen of Imaal Terrier

Puppy Dog:1. George & Sullivan’s Romainville Billy Wizz, mature heavyweight wheaten pup. Good Head ears and expression. Well muscled but a little sloppy in hind movement as yet. Best Puppy

Post Graduate Dog:1. Holmes’ Bailielands BB Ben, blue dog with strong head, harsh coat, well muscled in good hard condition, lovely topline and tailset. Moved with drive and showed well. Would prefer a darker eye nevertheless Res CC.

Limit Dog:1. Welch’s Romainville Brannigan at Brockland, heavyweight wheaten dog. Good head but mouth level. Good harsh coat.

Open Dog:1. Garner’s Johnny Be Good at Romainville, smart heavyweight wheaten dog. Good head, powerful throughout. Harsh well presented coat. Moved with drive. BOB, CC. 2. Smith’s Romainville Bodhran heavyweight blue dog. Good head mouth could be better. Would benefit from more muscling over his loin to improve his topline. Moved and showed well.

Puppy Bitch:1. George’s Romainville Jean Genie, blue bitch with good head, dark eye and pigmentation. Moved with drive, showed well.

Post Graduate Bitch: 1. George & Sullivan’s Romainville Inki, blue quality bitch well balanced, good harsh coat. Moved and showed well. Res Best Bitch

Limit Bitch:1. Withers’ Romainville Aoife at Pajantick, wheaten bitch, neat head, good dark eye. Good spring of rib. Moved with reach and drive. Best Bitch. 2. George & Sullivan’s Romainville Lily quality feminine bitch. Sound throughout, just not as powerful in hind action as winner. 3. Sealey’s Grizzlemarsh Cassie, powerful yet feminine bitch. Well made and muscled but did not move with drive or reach.
