Glen of Imaal Terrier Enthusiasts & Fanciers Club Open Show critique

Glen of Imaal Terrier Enthusiasts and Fanciers Club   23rd April 2017

Thank you to the committee for asking me to judge the open show. Overall the dogs were reasonably well presented, there is an improvement in the mouths but not in overall breed type. The bitches are stronger in type than the dogs.

PG Dog: Tobjanski Romanville Becks Blue For Zippor. Good bite with good dark eyes strong head, good bone overall a very balanced dog. Moved well, well muscled. Could improve on presentation.

Limit Dog: 1st Rodgers Gleann Dynamo Man at Jeonty (Fin Imp) BD. Good bite strong foreface well set ears, pleasing shoulders good overall balance moved with purpose. 2nd Alsteads Golden Spurs RBD first judged this young dog in 2014 at Driffield he has matured well, lovely expression with a strong jaw giving a scissor bite. Good dark eye, well placed ears. Good strong neck going into well placed shoulders, his hind quarters have strengthened but not moving his best today.

Open Dog; Romainville Fast ‘N’ Furious At Wickholm. Not on his best behaviour today give his handler a hard time. Good head, strong mouth , dark ears with well set ears, good front with strong hindquarters. Pity he wouldn’t behave.

Veteran Dog: Hadley Ch Donvalset Rebus BV. This dog surprised me!!! Very good length of neck, strong chest and hindquarters defiantly did not look his age, well muscled and really would love to see him stripped out just goes that you can not judge a dog until you have placed you hands on it. Thoroughly enjoyed his day. Thank you for bringing him.

Puppy Bitch: Hannington Boudivella Tegan BP. Mouth good, still very much a baby good dark eye, loose in shoulders but good hindquarters very feminine just needs to concentrate.

Junior Bitch: Sage Wickholm Breaking Dawn BB & BIS. 16months old, very good proportions with a good scissor bite, dark nose, well placed ears good neck going into strong shoulders and forequarters good tight feet. Strong loin with good hindquarters which she uses well on the moved. Her overall profile is lovely.

PG Bitch:   Rodgers Jeonty Mini MeMe BOS. Lovely head with good scissor bite, nice dark eye needs a bit of work on her coat moved out well .

Open Bitch: Ch Begrorrey Madam Defiance Very good proportions on this bitch, good bite , nice dark eye well placed ears, strong neck with good front and forequarters well ribbed body with strong hindquarters just lack the enthusiasm on the moved but loved when set up.

Veteran Bitch: Seall Ch Brockland Belle Bregrorry lovely feminine lady she still has it all, Very well balanced and good ratio’s. Wasn’t moving her best today.

Final reminder for the EFG Open Show

Entries close for the EFG Open Show in April 10th so take this as the last reminder to get your envelope into the post. Schedules are still available on the EFG website. Don’t forget Birmingham Gundog & Terrier as well-two chances to show your Glen of Imaal Terrier under 2 breed judges:-Karen Forbes at the EFG event and Jamie Sage for G&T. With the EFG there’s £10 on offer for BIS and £5 for RBIS, BP & Best Veteran so you could even get some of your fuel money back. That doesn’t happen very often these days!

Reminder for the weekend.

It’s National Terrier on Saturday so check the show bag to see if you’ve remembered to put the entry in for the EFG Open Show (Sue will be there to collect them) and any membership monies you forgot to give over at Crufts. If you can’t find your EFG Schedule it’s on the website and entries close on April 10th. Karen Forbes is judging.

The EFG Open Show is held alongside Birmingham Gundog & Terrier so you’ll get two bites of the showing cherry for just one set of travelling costs. Jamie Sage is judging Glen of Imaal Terriers at G&T and entries can be given either direct to Rachel Leeson at NT or made online at Fosse Data

Driffield critique

Apologises for the lateness of this-somehow or other it had disappeared, in effect, down the back of the computer.

DRIFFIELD CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW. Thank you for entering, three well presented Glen of Imaal Terriers. Would like to see an improvement in handling as this will help the judge in their assessment.

PD & JD. 1 Alstead’s Golden Spurs, raw but promising puppy, a bit erratic on the move but this should come with training & maturity. Good expression & head, scissor bite with a strong jaw. Nice dark eye, correct ear placement, strong neck going into well placed shoulders. Good topline when he does stand well set tail, acceptable rearend. RBD.

OD. 1 Ashcroft’s Rominville Typhoon, really pleased to see this dog today, although the owners have improved their grooming please watch the amount of hair left on his face. Strong jaw with good bite, once settled moved well driving round the ring. BOB.

PB & JB (0).

OB. 1 Ashcroft’s Rominville Moira, very unsettled but nice bitch, coat just coming through, good topline, with a well angulated backend. Stood well in profile. BB.

Schedule roundup

January still but Championship Show schedules for the late Spring/early Summer are arriving thick and fast. Judges for Glen of Imaal Terriers are:-

SCOTTISH KENNEL CLUB-Alan Small. A Terrier man who has judged Glens for quite a few years. His second set of Challenge Certificates, his first at WKC 2007 with the top awards going to Daisy and Homer.

BATH-Karen Forbes (No CCs). A Glen of Imaal owner since 1996. Living in the north of Scotland but has the only Show Certificate of Merit for a Glen and a Champion.

THREE COUNTIES-Jean Rogers (No CCs). A Glen of Imaal owner since 1988. Dominated the “of the Year” competitions for 15 years, three Champions bred in one litter.

BLACKPOOL-Peter Chappell (No CCs). A Terrier man with a long connection to Glen of Imaals so possibly a waste of a judge with only four classes scheduled.
