As we leave 2016…

Let us all celebrate Glen of Imaal Terriers. Each and every one is special but the Top Show Glens are the ones that repeatedly get out to spread the word to everybody. In the UK Pajantick Star Trooper gets the accolade and it is Gleann Willie the Whale for Denmark. Finland sees Glenrosedale Buagh Ri Arthur Milo take the nod for number 1 and the USA raises a paw to Abberann Torcan and his younger “bro” Abberann Phelan gets the same in Ireland so incredibly well done.

If any other country would like to send their Top Glen we’d be happy to mention them on here.

Happy 2017 to every Glen of Imaal Terrier owner, admirer, follower, enthusiast and lover.

Glen of Imaal Terriers

Rather an unbalanced entry between dogs & bitches today. Please to only find one incorrect bite.

PD (1)

1 Hogburn’s Pajantick Razamataz, masculine dog showing lots of promise. Super head, strong jaw. Well set ears. Correct neck. Well laid shoulder. Could be better moving towards. Well ribbed. Would prefer more rise in his topline. OK rear. Very good profile action. BP.

JD (3)

1 Tobijanski’s Romainville Becks Blue For Zippor, quite a nice type dog with the best front in class, just enough bow in forelegs. Very good head. Deep chest. Well bodied. Has a rise in his topline. Rear could have more angulation. Super profile action;

2 Coniry’s Stuibhard Hit The Road Jack At Adrgraigue, out of coat but quite a nice type of Glen. Has a lovely head. But untidy moving towards. Well laid shoulder. Very good body. Rise in his topline. Needs more hind angulation. Better tail than

3 Smith’s Romainville Bilbo Baggins.

PGD (1)

1 Rogers’ Kingcottage Boogie On Basil, typy dog who is in very good coat. Masculine head. Well set ears but could be smaller. Lengthy neck. Front is too bowed. Liked his body. Good rise in topline to a well set tail uses his rear very well.

LD (3) 1 Hannington’s Boudivella Osca, really good, typical dog. Masculine in head. Super eye & expression. Could have slightly more neck. Very good front. Correct bow but moved well. Grand body. Good rise in topline. Could have a firmer rear. In good coat. RCC;

2 Alstead’s Golden Spurs, lovely character. Has a good head. Well set ears. Correct neck. Shoulders set rather forward. Well bodied. Some rise in topline. In good coat;

3 George’s Romainville Jazz Man.

OD (1)

1 Hogburn’s Pajantick Star Trooper, lovely dog, strong & fit & very typical. Has a good head. Dark eyes, super expression. Enough neck. Well laid shoulder. Correct bow to his front. Well ribbed back. Rise to his topline. Better in rear than the limit dog. He really drives going away. Super stride & outline in profile. CC & BOB.

PB & JB (0).

PGB (1)

1 Richards’ Stiubhard Bellatrix L’estrange, not carrying much coat, she is a very nice type & moves well. Fem head of strength. Well set ears. Correct neck. Good front with bow to her legs. Topline could rise slightly more & have more hind angulation. Well set & straight tail. BCC

LB (0).

OB (1)

1 George & Garnham’s Romainville Fade To Grey, quite a nice type of bitch in full coat, not using her tail at all. She has a feminine head of strength. Good neck. Well laid shoulder. Bowed front but a tendency to knuckle over. Deep chest. Could be shorter in loin, but has a nice rise in topline. Fair rear. Very good profile action. RCC.

3/4 Year Leaders

The Glen of Imaal Terrier breed leaders up to the end of September have been announced. Top Glen is Ch Pajantick Star Trooper. Top Stud Dog Bailielands BB Ben. Brood Bitch is Romainville Rhian with Pajantick Razamataz Top Puppy. In America the results are announced to the end of August and Gr Ch Abberann Torcan is the boy there.

Any other country like to share their 3/4 year leaders?

Big entries for the Montgomery Cluster.

Leading on the “Montgomery Weekend” as this is THE one on the American circuit to see big entries of Glen of Imaal Terriers and this year was no exception. Hatboro 1 starts it off and it was a BOB for Abberann Torcan with his daughter, Kilkenny Across The Universe at Setanta Best Opposite Sex. Hatboro 2 saw Cormac McCarthy waved to the Top Spot and the nod going to Tipperary Cora Countess of Grantham for Best Bitch. Number 3 Show of the weekend is Devon with the Glen entry higher again. Abberann Torcan added to his tally with once again his daughter, Kilkenny Across The Universe at Setanta, Best Bitch. Number 4 is the mighty Montgomery Terrier Show and nothing could be found to top the best weekend of their careers (up to yet) of Abberann Torcan & Kilkenny Across The Universe at Setanta as they were waved again to the two top spots!

Kilkenny Best of my Love and Kilkenny Love and Happiness flew the breed flag in the Brace Group and were rewarded with Group 2

The AKC system has dogs “in the classes” and from the classes Winner Dog & Bitch is decided and these two compete for BOW. It is the points gained in the classes that make you a Champion and then you go into the Best of Breed class (often known as Specials). So the Winners are equally important when trying to make a dog up in the States. Hatboro 1 was a great start for recent import Gleann Cotton Cody with Winners Dog and Daulton’s Caoimhe of Pine Meadow Winners Bitch. Hatboro 2 WB Daulton’s Caoimhe of Pine Meadow again and WD Coleraine Here Comes The Sun. Here Comes  The Sun was WD again at Devon with  Finnabair Shorlyne Summer In The Caatskills  WB. Montgomery saw Finnabair Caatskill Lightening on the Shorelyne and Finnabair Shorlyne Caatskill Comedy Tonight take the two Winners awards with Summer and Lightening also taking the Sweepstake Best of Sex and Best Opposite. (Sure somebody will tell me if all those similar names are in the wrong way around!)

Back in the UK South Wales Kennel Association was rather a good day for the Pajantick pair with Star Trooper taking the Dog CC with Best of Breed and Pajantick Razamataz Best Puppy. Bitch CC, making a long trip over from Ireland positively easy on the way home, was Stiubhard Bellatrix L’Estrange with the two Reserves to Boudivella Osca and Romainville Fade To Grey. A big first at the show was a Glen competing AND WINNING the YKC Stakes-the first one ever for the breed. Congratulations to Romainville Becks Blue For Zippor.

In Finland Tuulos Puppy Show saw Highlanders Dream Casper the Glen of the day and in the Turkku area the Glen people got together for a walk and a day out which is always nice.

Glen Brains were also working well as Laura Trainor reports:- Reporting on the other than conformiation competitions of the week. Jeff Dairiki & Sandra Distefano’s GCH Keadeen’s Blue Boy for Bluesette CA was the first Glen to earn his RATCH Barn Hunt title. Their Kilkenny’s Love and Happiness earned his RATO title. Laura Trainor’s CH Rainbow Springs Kylee of Cnoc CD RE OAP OJP OFP RATS CGCA earned another Barn Hunt Master qualifying score. Her GCH PACH Niamh of Cnoc CD PCD BN RE MXP7 MXPS MJP6 MJPB JE RATS CGCA earned three more Agility Master Standard qualifying scores bringing her to a total of 75 which earns her the Master Standard Preferred Gold title. Whilst elsewhere in the US Kelli Whitfield sends: Finnabair Winston O’Reilly VCD1 CDX BN GN RE JE CA THDA RATS CGCA NW2 TDCH earned his Master Barn Hunt Title(RATM) today. The last two years Winston has been sidelined with cruciate tears first on the left side and then again this spring on the right side so this was a long time coming and this was Winston’s first event after his surgery this spring. Two stainless steel legs later and lots of rehab but barn hunt is so much fun for this guy.

Many, many congratulations everybody!!

What a weekend!

Group placings galore for Glen of Imaal Terriers with a Group 1 and 3, yes 3 in 3 different countries, Group 4s plus a Best Puppy In Show! Glens also accounted for an Open Show Group 4 as well. Is this the breed’s most successful weekend ever? The Group 1 was annexed by Abberann Torcan in America and the 3s by his brother Phelan in Ireland, another US placing by Daulton’s Wild Night of Galore and Finland saw Gleann Elite Ellie take the third. Best Puppy was also Stateside with Kilkenny’s Midleton of Irish Spirit.

It was at Anderson KC where Torcan triumphed, Tioga County KC for Daulton’s Wild Night of Galore, Clonmel for Abberann Phelan (Daulton’s Midnight Sky of Galore Best Opposite) and Heinola All Breed had Glenrosedale Buagh Ri Arthur Milo taking Best Opposite to Gleann Elite Ellie. Kilkenny’s Midleton of Irish Spirit besides the BPIS also took a Puppy Group 2 and it was Pembroke Dog Show (Wales) that saw Kingcottage Boogie on Basil take the Open Show Group placement.

In Estonia 3 Best of Breeds were awarded to Gleann Eager Edgar and at Kouvola Glenrosedale Buagh Ri Arthur Milo took BOB. The German Winners Show at Leipzig saw a double double with BOB going to Fire & Ice Liberty, BOS to Fire & Ice Moonraker and the two Junior Winners to McJakes Aivy and Mcjakes Ayle. At Olympic Kennel Club Keadeen’s Second Star to the Right took Best of Breed with Keadeens Blue Boy for Bluesette Best Opposite.

Welsh Kennel Club saw a new Champion with Pajantick Star Trooper taking the all important 3rd CC and Best of Breed. Best Bitch was awarded to Romainville Fade To Grey with the two Reserves being Golden Spur and Romainville Maggie May. Best Puppy was new kid on the block Wickholm Breaking Dawn very ably handled by young Emily Sage. Best Veteran was awarded to Donvaleset Rebus

Keadeen’s Sir Emmet Mingus Glas added another string to the bow with a CA (coursing aptitude) award

What a weekend, what a breed!!

SKC & Southern Counties Critique

GLEN OF IMAAL TERRIERS

Firstly may I thank SKC for the appointment and the exhibitors for their entry. For most a way to travel and much appreciated.

 Junior Dog (4.1) A quality class of youngsters ranging from 7 months to 16 months.

1)Hannington: Boudivella Oscar he has now reached that teenage stage a developing glen that now needs maturity. Body condition good, needs time now. Moved well both ways. Head, eye, muzzle and teeth okay. Presented well with good coat covering. Did enough to take the RCC.

2)Tobijanski: Romainville Becks Blue for Zippor. Having recently moved home has come on in the recent weeks. Good head and expression. At this stage was presented in excellent condition, however coat soft. Balanced throughout with good movement forward and back. A very good overall performance deserving BP.

3)Hogburn: Pajantick Razamataz. A youngster, presentation and condition very good. Developing well with good head and kind eye for age. However slightly longer in body and requires to muscle up but at 7 months has plenty of time, improving with each month. One to watch for the future. Moved well just missing out against the older competition.

 Post Graduate (1.1)

 Limit Dog          (2.1)

1)Perrie: Poachersmoon Angus Mag Og. Coming up 4 yrs. old and a strong substantial glen. It is nice to see that the owner has taken advice given and is working hard on presentation. Has a way to go but such an improvement. Strong head, keen eye and good foreface with a well-muscled body and deep chest. Well boned. Coat is much improved. Just lacked in rear movement and drive in the challenge.

Open Dog (2.1)

1)Hogburn: Pajantick Star Trooper. What a little showman he is turning into. 4 years old and maturing nicely. Loved his head and kind eye and in superb harsh coat condition presented well with adequate bone. Moved with drive and purpose, good angulation, giving nothing away. Mouth could be better but you could not take away from the overall glen it was his day and he deserved the CC and BOB. His presence in the group ring was noted as he moved out putting on a good performance.

Post Graduate Bitch (1.1)

1)Baldock: Ellerton Dusky Beauty. Again another 4 yr old and now maturing into a lovely brindle bitch. Well-proportioned head, excellent eye colour good foreface and good mouth. Excellent expression Well-muscled with deep chest and good spring of rib and carrying excellent bone. Good turn of stifle. Moving well. Taking the deserved CC just missing out against the dog who was not giving away his day.

Limit Bitch (2.1)

1)Hannington: Romainville Uptown Girl. 5 yr old mature bitch of excellent harsh dark brindle coat. Well-presented. Head slightly narrow for me, however good dentition and eye colour, nice expression. Moved out both ways with drive, carrying good overall muscle tone but of lighter bone and not so deep through. Though did enough to deserve RCC on the day.

Good balanced dog, strength and depth to a good shaped head and jaw, correct topline, well boned and very powerful backend, muscle as hard as iron, showed and moved well with drive, a bit short in jacket, but a good confident dog I think could do a days work.

1ST PAJANTICK ROCKAHULA (MS P J WITHERS)
A real feminine baby only 7 months old, beautiful expression, good headshape, excellent eye, good bone and front, enough body for age, hard coat, but didn’t show in her class, but moved well with tail up in the puppy challenge with her brother for best pup.

Let’s celebrate….

….Glen of Imaal Terriers doing their thing with their people.

A double show weekend in Ireland with Abberann Phelan having to bow the paw to the ladies at both Munster & Cork. Daulton’s Midnight Sky of Galore was BOB at the former and Abberann Reach For The Stars Ryanna at the latter. At Southern Counties Championship Show Pajantick Star trooper was BOB with Pajantick Rockahula Best Bitch.

The weekend of the Estonian Winners saw Glenrosedale Buagh Ri Arthur Milo and Pearytail Artful Tess both getting the Estonian 2016 title with Milo the nod for BOB. At Tallinn Group Show BOB went to Pearytail Candy McCoy and over the weekend McJakes Angel-Lina become an Estonian Junior Champion. Back in Finland Kuhmo Group Show saw Gleann Easter Eamonn take BOB.

Over in the States Keadeen Blue Boy for Bluesette was 4th in the Group at Yokima Valley KC and Daulton’s Rory also notched up a placement at Toledo KC with a G2 in OH and a G4 in the Terrier group. Ladies Kennel Club (Inc) had Kilkenny Granite Great Gatsby get the nod for BOB whilst at Gateway Terrier Show Abberann Stars and Stripes Ruari became a Champion.

Monique Anthony writes “Oliver qualified and earned first place in the Excellent Speed class yesterday at the Performance Scent Dogs trial in Raymond, NH! The funniest part of the day was when he attacked some Barn Hunt tubes just outside one of the search areas and ran down the clock. Birch, anise or clove hides cannot compete with BH tubes, even if empty”

Applause to you all!!

National Terrier critique

Glen Of Imaal Terriers

Thank you to National Terrier for the invitation to judge these breeds, it was a well run show with good quality in the breeds I judged. Thanks to the exhibitors for the entries & the sporting atmosphere at ringside, I enjoyed the day among the dogs & their supporters

MPD (2,1a)

1 George & Sullivan’s Romainville Becks Blue, good development so far on this impressive youngster, he has the skull to muzzle ratios, neck, body & chest coming through, he’s good at the rear with the muscle & true action front to develop, but goes well in side action.

JD (2)

1 Hannington’s Boudivella Oscar, interesting class with the first stronger & more substance at this stage, he’s longer, but has the power in head & skull, strong jaw & better front with a good chest & strong rear, moved to win;

2 Rogers’ Kingcottage Boogie On Basil, slightly smaller at present but of good type, head balanced to length, good topline & tailset, he moved well on side & rear action & carries a good coat, more to come as he develops.

PGD (1)

1 Alstead’s Golden Spurs, smart boy with the shape & balance, he has the head width developing, has the chest & body, though a little longer in loin, strong quarters & coat colour, he moves well on side & rear action, front to improve.

LD (4)

1 Withers’ Pajantick Star Trooper, impressive, strong, substantial wheaten boy with the typical head, skull, jaw & neck, he has a good front topline & shape with the tail & overall size, he’s well built through chest & loin with strongly muscled rearquarters, good on the move, he took it all before him today, great condition for CC & BOB;

2 George & Sullivan’s Romainville Jazz Man, liked this lad with the classic head, ear & eye, good neck, holds himself well in balance, would prefer a slightly better shoulder set, but he has the topline & rearend, just more to come in body & muscletone to challenge 1 in this excellent class;

3 Davis’ Donvaleset Rafferty at Viahninns.

OD (2)

1 Ashcroft’s Ch Romainville Typhoon, quality boy with the strength in head, skull & muzzle, he has the bone, body & substance, nice quarters & muscled rearend, not quite the topline today from withers, but he’s good on the move pushing all the way in the challenge taking the RCC today;

2 Sage’s Romainville Fast N’Furious at Wickholm, another lovely dog from this kennel with a classic shape, good typical head & neck, slightly longer in back than 1 with the croup & strong rearend, he moved well at his own pace.

MPB (0).

PB (2)

1 Rogers’ Jeonty Minnie Meme, very promising & stunning puppy with the balance & overall shape, she has the attitude, is good through head & muzzle, she has the power in jaw with strong teeth, I liked the front topline & rear muscle strength, she’s good on the move from all angles & took this class & BP today;

2 George & Sullivan’s Romainville Razzamatazz, loved the outline & overall type of this girl, she’s good in profile action, but not quite the front development yet of 1, she’s growing well at this stage with the chest & body to firm up, her time will come.

JB (0).

PGB (1)

1 Studd’s Wickholm Gone In Sixty Secs, smart girl with good proportions in head & body, she has the front & rise in topline to the tailset, a strongly muscled rearend & she’s good on the move with an easy action, accurate & true.

LB (2)

1 Hannington’s Romainville Uptown Girl, good type on this strong girl, she has the balance but a little longer in loin, she’s well filled in body with good proportions in head & muzzle, she carries the coat of harsh texture & won this class with the better movement today;

2 Ashcroft’s Romainville Moira, lovely wheaten girl of a better outline shape than 1, she has the power in skull & jaw, neck & tailset, carrying a little too much body weight today but OK on the move, with more to come in front action.

OB (3)

1 George & Sullivan’s Romainville Rock On Ruby, three quality girls in this class, the first a big strong powerful girl with the type in head, skull & muzzle, strong jaw & teeth of good size, she has the bone, strong front, depth of chest, rib, loin & tailset, she has good propulsion on the move, covers the ground with her strong drive at the rear, won the class & the close decision for the CC;

2 Seall’s Ch Bregorrey Madam Defiance, lovely, impressive for type & balance, good overall for size & performance, attracts in head, neck, topline & body, she’s good through although with finer bone, she has a strong rear & the easy action on the move, well deserved RCC, a worthy champion;

3 Sage’s Jeonty Lola May at Wickholm.
