This week the walks have been happening for Pedigree Paws Unite. It’s for seven great causes Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children, PACT Sheffield, Make a Wish, Ty Hafan, Dog Aid, Cinnamon Trust, Search & Rescue Dog Association. It isn’t too late to donate but if you like to see something for your money why not buy a limited print of the event?
Dodger & Gypsy. Let’s support them showing what Glens can do!!
Dodger and Gypsy are doing a very special charity walk in Belfast for the Pedigree Paws Unite fundraiser. They are hoping to raise £150 or more for these lovely charities and to promote Glens!
Every dog breed in the UK is set to go on a walk like no other – the equivalent of hiking six marathons.
During September 12-18th 2016, dog owners, breeders, judges and dog show exhibitors will take part in the ground-breaking Pedigree Paws Unite (PPU) event – a serie…s of sponsored walks totalling 160 miles. This September, the Pedigree Paws Unite event, aims to raise awareness and promote every recognised pedigree dog breed in the UK.
All 216 Kennel Club (UK) recognised breeds will be taking part in the event – from Chihuahuas to Irish Wolfhounds and Cocker Spaniels to St Bernards – each walking a minimum of five miles.
The huge event in September is the brainchild of Crufts 2013 Best in Show winning handler and owner, Gavin Robertson. Gavin and his Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen, “Jilly” won the biggest prize in dogs in March 2013. As a result of the pair’s win, he organised Jilly’s Jolly Jaunt, a sponsored walk from Birmingham to London in summer ‘13 which raised £49,000. During this 130 mile walk, Gavin and Jilly were joined by friends including breeds of dog which are classed by the Kennel Club as vulnerable and high profile.
Held under the umbrella of The Peekaboo Trust – the aim is to raise £70,000 for seven charities – Make A Wish Foundation, Childrens Hospital, National Search and Rescue Dog Association, Dog AID, The Cinnamon Trust, PACT and Tŷ Hafan.
Pedigree Paws Unite are looking for every pedigree breed of dog to take part in a walk between the 12th-18th September. They would like the four Native Breeds of Ireland to walk together on the Belfast leg but currently are having problems finding one. Will you be at around Belfast on September 16th & willing to travel to the event? Do you know somebody who will be willing to do their bit? Then share it with us to share with the Glen community!
