Catching up

Where to start? We like to give great Glen of Imaal Terrier things the first shout so this week it was a toss of the coin and it came down heads so “the boys” are the breed’s lead in guys. Kelli sends news that “Griffin and Winston received their AKC Trick Dog Elite Performer (TKE)  titles! The new Elite Performer title is the highest level trick title and requires the dog to perform 10 tricks from the advanced and performer level tricks with at least 5 props and there must be a story.” It’s a first for Glens and if you want to see just what the boys can do take a look at You Tube The boys weren’t the only brains in action as Monique writes about Ginny “who Q’d in 3 classes at the Performance Scent Dogs trial in CT. She qualified in Advanced Buildings and then did very well in both Advanced Containers classes, earning a 2nd place in the first class and finishing her title in the 2nd class! ”

If the coin had come up tails the first news would have been of Boudivella Osca taking Best of Breed in Switzerland (as well as Utrecht) and so obtaining his International Championship title. Not to be outdone Romainville Uptown Girl and Boudivella Tegan also obtained their Swiss Championships. Not something that usual at all for Glens whelped in the UK. Blackpool Championship Show saw another first for Glens. Romainville Becks Blue for Zippor was Best of Breed with Jeonty Dreams a Dream with Karensbrae Best Bitch & Best Puppy. She was also taken into the YKC Terrier Stakes and won that, a first for Glens? Running with the “blimey we’re good theme” is a Group placing in Holland, again not a usual occurrence, but Jeonty Junior Fire and Ice was nodded to Gp4 at Zwolle.

In Finland Marfidal Santa Baby was BOB with Pearytail Donald Dump Best Opposite (nice entry of 19 Glens) at Kotka whilst in Rovaniemi Gleann Gildea with Nelli annexed the Best of Breed rosette with Glenrosedale Ardal Ridire Ain Ri was Best Dog. Aura Group Show Highlanders Dream Casper took BOB and Gleann Funnyfifi Stiubhard Best Bitch. Salo Dog Show saw Glenrosedale Caireann Chasdubh as Best with Breed with Hammersmolles Rocket Saturn Best Opposite Sex.

In America Finnabair Double D Friend of a Friend has been having a great run. Over a couple of weeks he took 3x Group 2, one Group 3 and 2x Group 4. The results from the Tampa cluster saw Kilkenny’s Irish American Classic of Castlerock Best Opposite to him. Western Pennysylvania KA was a triumph for Daulton’s Wild Night of Galore and Echo Hills KC of Ohio saw Finnabair Broc Rua Pegasus with Shorlyne Best of Breed. And finally another tremendous US KC name. Please let Lewiston-Auburn Kennel Club of Maine be as good as it’s name. Glendalough’s Fergus O’Quinn wasn’t really bothered though as he took Best of Breed. From Clackamas KC (Oregon) Jeff Dairiki sends Ciarán, Keadeen’s Blue Boy for Bluesette, had a great weekend going BOB both days.  Saturday’s judge was Linda Wells. Sunday he went on to place fourth in the Terrier group under judge Lorraine Bisso.  Ciarán also completed three qualifying master Barn Hunt runs, earning his RATCHX5! Stella, Keadeen’s Second Star to the Right, went BOS both days.  Chance, Keadeen’s by Happy Chance, went WD/BOW on Saturday; Tristan, Keadeen’s Happy Go Lucky, took WD/BOW on Sunday.  Lulu, Keadeen’s Luck be a Lady, went WB both days. Quinn, Kilkenny’s Love and Happiness, was awarded select dog both days.” Kate Flack has also been busy “The bifurcated 2018 Montana ‘death circuit’ is behind us …10 show days in 12 days. Stamina is Emmet’s (Keadeen’s Sir Emmet Mingus Glas) middle name! He brought home 3 Terrier Group rosettes (two Third Place and 1 Fourth Place) along with seven NOHS group placements (3 OHGr 1’s, 2OHGr 2s and 2OHGr3).”

Great session everybody and, as usual, you all do the breed proud!

Eukanuba Week

It’s an American Glen of Imaal Terrier round up week as, whilst the rest of the world settles down a little for Christmas, the US show scene decamps to Florida for the big Eukanuba week.

Tuesday was Space Coast KC of Palm Bay with a Best of Breed for Kilkenny’s Across The Universe at Setanta and Gleann Cotton Cody Best of Winners and Best Opposite Sex. Wednesday was Brevard Kennel Club and Finnabair Double D Friend of a Friend took BOB with Finnabair Shorlyne Summer in the Caatskills BOS. Daulton’s Rory was BOBOH and then took Number 1 in the Owner handler Group. Thursday saw two new Champions with Cotton Cody taking BOB (he was first shown in October at Montgomery) and 10 month old Daulton’s Caoimhe of Pine Meadows getting the nod for Best Bitch.

The big event was the weekend with Terriers on the Sunday. The major results were a repeat of Tuesday with Kilkenny Across The Universe at Setanta Best of Breed and Gleann Cotton Cody Best Dog. Select Dog Finnabair Double D Friend Of A Friend and Select Bitch
Daulton’s Princess C Hatteras. Best of Winners Finnabair Caatskill Lightning On The Shorlyne

The UK has Discover Dogs and the AKC has Meet The Breeds-the Glen booth was awarded 3rd place in the Terrier Group competition.

Finally Monique writes:-Oliver qualified for the third time and earned a title in the Excellent Buildings class at a Performance Scent Dogs trial on Sunday.  This completed the requirements (3 qualifying excellent runs in each of 5 elements-Buildings, Exteriors, Containers, Distance, Speed) for the Scent Dog Excellent (SDE) overall title.  He is only the third dog to achieve the highest level in this nosework organization. Most of all, I am extremely proud of my 17 year old Glen of Imaal Terrier, who still amazes me with his motivation to work and fun loving spirit.

Well done everybody and particularly the superb Oliver!

A little quieter weekend…

….but still four Glen of Imaal Terrier results to applaud and one fabulous “brains” achievement.

At Windsor Boudivella Oscar was Best of Breed with Amhard Jessie Jay Best Bitch whilst at Bray Abberann Phelan was BOB with Daulton Midnight Sky of Galore Best Opposite. It was the Finnish Glen Club Specialty Show and Gleann Una Noonan took the BIS honours with Abberann Fagan Best Dog whilst in the States Tipperary Cora Countess of Grantham was BOB at Bushy Run Kennel Club.

Monique writes:-“Oliver earned a title in the Excellent Speed nosework class at the Performance Scent Dogs trial in New Hampshire on Saturday! He also earned bronze first places in the Excellent Distance class and a second Excellent Speed class”

Well done all!

Let’s celebrate….

….Glen of Imaal Terriers doing their thing with their people.

A double show weekend in Ireland with Abberann Phelan having to bow the paw to the ladies at both Munster & Cork. Daulton’s Midnight Sky of Galore was BOB at the former and Abberann Reach For The Stars Ryanna at the latter. At Southern Counties Championship Show Pajantick Star trooper was BOB with Pajantick Rockahula Best Bitch.

The weekend of the Estonian Winners saw Glenrosedale Buagh Ri Arthur Milo and Pearytail Artful Tess both getting the Estonian 2016 title with Milo the nod for BOB. At Tallinn Group Show BOB went to Pearytail Candy McCoy and over the weekend McJakes Angel-Lina become an Estonian Junior Champion. Back in Finland Kuhmo Group Show saw Gleann Easter Eamonn take BOB.

Over in the States Keadeen Blue Boy for Bluesette was 4th in the Group at Yokima Valley KC and Daulton’s Rory also notched up a placement at Toledo KC with a G2 in OH and a G4 in the Terrier group. Ladies Kennel Club (Inc) had Kilkenny Granite Great Gatsby get the nod for BOB whilst at Gateway Terrier Show Abberann Stars and Stripes Ruari became a Champion.

Monique Anthony writes “Oliver qualified and earned first place in the Excellent Speed class yesterday at the Performance Scent Dogs trial in Raymond, NH! The funniest part of the day was when he attacked some Barn Hunt tubes just outside one of the search areas and ran down the clock. Birch, anise or clove hides cannot compete with BH tubes, even if empty”

Applause to you all!!

Keeping on going….

The biggie of the results to catch up with has to be Westminster (hopefully the 180 odd who looked on here last Tuesday/Wednesday weren’t too disappointed we were still on Winter break). GCH Finnabair Ardmore Ned made it an incredible three BOBs on the trot so it just has to be one word, besides congratulations, WOW. Best Opposite Sex was his daughter CH Tipperary That Girl. Two Selects were awarded and they were the brother & sister CH Cormac McCarthy & CH Ber-D-Mar My Dream of You Aoife with sire GCH Rainbow Springs Wicklow Warrior of Ber-D-Mar taking the Award of Merit so judge Ron Menaker could certainly see families and more than some may realise. Ned and the dam of the Ber-D-Mar siblings are brother & sister. Ned’s grandsire was the brother of Wicklow Warrior’s grandsire (English bred by a German dog) so besides family we are talking international! Thanks to Jane Fenton for the photographs

Back in January Kathleen O’Donnell (Australia) wrote “Tara (Taufield Queen Of Tara) 6mths first show in Minor got her bitch challenge and BOB then went on to win Minor of group she was so good and stood so well for me she performed well in General Specials (Best in Show) I was so proud of my girl today”. Also in January GCH Kilkenny’s Granite Glen Rooney took BOB/BOBOH and Group 4 at Merrimack Valley KC. The group of shows that make up the Northern Ohio Winter Classic saw two Best of Breeds for Daulton’s Rory & one for Kilkenny’s Granite Aine of Claddagh. At Erie Ch Daulton’s Dark Lily of Caradoc was BOB and then got the nod for Group 3. Two more Group placings for GCH Abberann Torcan, a Gp2 in Minnesota and a Group 4 at Osh Kosh.

The Finns don’t notice Winter so are out and about as usual! A Group 1 for Gleann Dear Dandelion and a Group 1 and BIS4 for Pearytail Cruella de Gleann at Kajaani Puppy Show. At Turkuu International Gleann Cotton Candy was BOB with Stiubhard Cutie Pie at Gleann BOS and obtaining her Finnish Championship. She followed this up with BOB at Parkano Group Show and then took a fabulous Reserve Best In Show. Pearytail Candy McCoy was BOB at Lahti Puppy Show and then went on to Group 3.

In Germany at Chemnitz Fire & Ice Moonraker was twice BOB and at Sporting Terrier of Yorkshire Jeonty Diamond Ring was Best of Breed. In Denmark Gleann Willy the Whale became a Danish Champion. A new Norwegian Champion came into being in MacNallys Glenna-Roisin and at Gent BOB was awarded to Bregorrey Wannabe Victory By Jeonty

The mighty Oliver doesn’t care that it’s Winter as he earned an “Excellent Containers” title at the  Performance Scent Dogs trial in New Hampshire early February.

A great few weeks everybody-very, very well done.

It’s Monday again….

….and, as always, there is lots to catch up on in the Glen of Imaal Terrier world.

In Finland Pori International saw a Best of Breed for Gleann Ungus MacGuire with Marfidal Koitiva Vaara Best Opposite. At Dun Laoghaire (Ireland) Abberann Phelan was BOB with his sister Dervla Best Bitch.

In America Daulton’s Rosalee took the top spot at Beaver County KC and Cross Stone’s Get Me The Griffin was Best of Breed at Cheshire Kennel Club.  A great weekend for Caatskill’s All That Jazz with 3 Best of Breeds at Columbiana County HC, Fort Streuben Kennel Association and Mahoning Shenango KC.

Petra Engel-Beier also had an excellent weekend with the following wins for her “My Dear Fellow” kennel:- International show in Bremen…. One the first day Spirit of Ireland Angel (Veterans class males v1, best veteran), My dear Fellow Ashton de Coco (Champion class dogs v1), My dear Fellow Bealtaine de Coco (Youth class bitches v1, best young bitch), My dear Fellow Anuschka de Coco (Open class bitches v1 and Best of Breed). On the 2nd day Spirit of Ireland Angel (Veterans class males 1. Place, Veterans CAC) My dear Fellow Bealtaine de Coco (Youth class bitches V1, Youth CAC), My dear Fellow Anuschka de Coco (Open class bitchesV1, CAC and BOB again)
In addition, we have for the first time from the kennel “My Dear Fellow” a Irish Glen of imaal terrier breeding group. That was for us a new experience and gave us a giant fun.

Finally the mighty Oliver is earning even more honours! “An amazing day was had by Oliver at the Performance Scent Dogs trial in Auburn, New Hampshire on Saturday. He placed 2nd in the Novice Distance class, 1st in Advanced Containers & Advanced Distance, and TITLED in the Novice Exterior & Novice Distance classes by earning his 3rd leg in each! I am so proud of Oliver and his nose!” So say all of us Monique.

Very well done everybody.
