Crufts at 9.00am

Blimey 9.00am in the ring is early. Everybody made it though and there were even spectators. Thank you for supporting Glen of Imaal Terriers even though it meant getting up at silly o’clock.

All-rounder judge Jeff Horswell restarted a Glen on the trail when he awarded Pajantick Razamataz his second CC and BOB. “Restarted” is the word as Quinn got his first CC at the ridiculously early age of 7 months. Shown lightly as a youngster he is now coming to maturity and has taken a Best In Show in France plus Best of Breed at Midland Counties last year. Reserve Dog CC went to Abberann Cosmic Cowboy, Nick & Ann are certainly devotees making the trek over from Ireland each year. Bitch CC was taken home to Shropshire by Sigrid Helga at Pantcottage and there was no mistaking the joy of the Reserve CC owner; floodlights will probably be ordered to hightlight Jeonty Letty Be Magic’s cards.

Once more Kirikee Celtic Warrior was Best Veteran (ready for the third year in 2020?) and Best Puppy was Borderglens Michaelmas. First showdog and winning that at Crufts, what an introduction.

Congratulations everybody!! Oh yes, the photographs below. We love you to share but, if possible, please give acknowledgement to either the blog or rbt-int

Glen of Imaal Terriers

Although numerically small in numbers I was very impressed with the excellent type of the dogs present on the day. Temperaments were excellent as one would expect from this wonderful breed. Such a shame they are not more popular as they are wonderful characters.

JD/B 1) Romainville Rock ‘N Rolla at Coedrhosyn. 17 month old female, lovely head & expression. Well balanced in outline and sturdy in constitution. Good length to upper arm, depth of chest, good ribcage and well ribbed back. Moved soundly in profile and behind. Front action needs to settle a bit. Reserve Best Bitch.

PGD/B 1) Romainville Bilbo Baggins. 3 year old male, masculine head & expression. Sturdy in constitution would, would like a little more balance in outline. Good ribcage & depth of chest & well ribbed back. Good length to upper arm, more lay of shoulder would be to his advantage. Moved well in profile action & in front, could be a little stronger in hind action.

OD/B 1) Ch Golden Spurs. Four & a half years old. Correct masculine expression. Well balanced in outline and of a sturdy constitution with excellent bone. Excellent front with good width & depth to chest. Good length to upper arm & well laid shoulder. Well ribbed back. Moved soundly in all directions. Best Dog & BOB. 2) Boudivella Osca. Three & a half years old. Masculine head with a good outline. Good depth to chest, a little more width to chest would be to his advantage. Excellent well muscled hindquarters. Moved well in profile & behind. Reserve Best Dog. 3) Sigrid Helga at Pantcottage. 2 years old. Lovely feminine head & expression with excellent bite. Well balanced in outline with good depth to chest. Well ribbed back. Moved soundly. Best Bitch.

It might be a Bank Holiday in the UK but elsewhere it’s business as usual!

Glen of Imaal Terriers (and their people) do us all so proud. Going Native to begin with for this week’s round up with “The Circuit” in Ireland. The final three shows were Killarney, Tralee & Limerick. Sigrid Helga at Pantcottage was BOB at Killarney and Limerick and Best Bitch at Tralee where Abberann Cosmic Cowboy was Best of Breed. He was Best Opposite at Limerick. No classes for Glens at Scottish Kennel Club so Jeonty Dreams A Dream with Karensbrae was entered into the Not Separately Classifieds and bought honour to the breed with being awarded Best Bitch.

In Finland the Riihimaki Nordic Show saw Meomodo Boho’s Trick or Treat take Best of Breed. At Vantaa Terrier Specialty Show Gleann Una Noonan was Best of Breed and Best Veteran with Gleann Cotton Cody Best Dog. At Ristiina BOB was Marfidal Devil’s Rock with Marfidal Up To Your Ears Best Opposite.

In America Tipperary Ballyfinboy Liam of Cnoc axed the BOBs at Tioga County & Susque-Nango KC. Kilkenny’s Irish American Classic was in Georgia with Best of Breed at Griffin KC and Sawnee Mountain KC but Best Opposite at Conyers KC and Lawrenceville KC where Ber-D-Mar Sweet William O’Shea was Best of Breed. Hearing news of two new Champions. Subject to AKC confirmation Daulton’s Eli from Emerald Isle and Tipperary Sweet Rosie O’Grady (who took an OHG4 on the day) are now Champions.

Our “brains department” has also been performing. Monique reports that “Ginny performed various exercises around sheep, ducks, and farm equipment the last 2 weekends to be evaluated on how she would behave when exposed to livestock and the sights/sounds/scents of a farm environment. She passed 2 of these tests and is now AKC Farm Dog Certified.” Quinn-Kilkenny’s Love and Happiness-has completed the requirements for the GITCA Master Versatility lifetime award as he can now put CAA CGCA CZ8S RATCHX4 SE TKN after his name. Laura Trainor received the following email:-  CONGRATULATIONS!! I am writing because your above-mentioned dog is listed on the AKC 2018 Agility Invitational Top 15 by Breed report that was published this morning

Owner(s): Laura Gilbert Trainor
Dog: GCH CH PACH Niamh Of Cnoc CD PCD BN RE MXP9 MXPG MJP7 MJPS PAX2 MFP T2BP JE RATM CGCA TKI

This is the 5th time that Niamh has earned an invitation. My Agility Superstar and I will be traveling to Florida in December!

Way to go all!!

Just keep on showing.

Many Glen of Imaal Terrier people who were in Amsterdam last weekend were glad to get home for a rest. Others just kept on going. It was the Baltic Weekend in Estonia. Friday was the Harjuma Group Show. Best of Breed was Pearytail Candy McCoy who was shortlisted in the Group. Pearytail Donald Dump was Best Opposite and Pearytail took BIS 2 (Breeders). Saturday was the Baltic Winners with (for Estonia) a big entry of 15. BOB to Gleann Dynamite Mike and Gleann Gildea with Nelli Best Bitch. Sunday was the Terrier Specialty with the Pearytail pair taking the top awards again. Kouvola (Finland) saw Gleann Flatbone Stiubhard get the nod for Best of Breed with Astoreen Best Opposite.

Welsh Kennel Club and it was Abberann Cosmic Cowboy for Best of Breed with Romainville Whistle Dixie (making her up) Best Bitch. The two Reserves were Abberann Conan and Romainville Maggie May, so a double double. Jeonty Dreams A Dream of Karensbrae kept the breed flag ably flying with a 1st in the Junior Stakes. The Irish Circuit has begun with the All Terrier and Clonmel. Sigrid Helga at Pantcottage was Best of Breed at both.

In Canada Abberann Derbla has been keeping the breed flag flying with Gp3 at both Kilbride & District & St Catharines & District and Gp2 & 4 at Grey-Bruce Kennel Club (another great name). In America Nisqually KC in Washington State saw Keadeen’s Second Star To The Right take Best of Breed both days plus Gp3. Keadeen’s Boy Blue for Bluesette was Best Opposite both days and he triumphed in the Owner Handler Groups with an OH3 and OH4. Glendalough Daithi of Abberann was Best of Breed at the Upper Potomac Valley KC and Laurel Highlands Kennel Association. At Potomac Abberann Blue Sky of Glendalough took Puppy Group 1. South Adirondach Dog Club had Kilkenny’s Best of My Love take home the BOB award.

Congratulations all.

Leeds critique

GLEN OF IMAAL TERRIER (LEEDS 18)

I was rather worried that I might not be able to award the CCs when, in advance of the show, I saw the small number of dogs entered – only 9. In the event I needn’t have worried. The quality of the top winners was very good indeed.

OD (2)

1. Alstead’s Ch Golden Spurs, though he could be better in eye colour, he scored very much in head and expression over 2 and was more typey in a number of ways. Moved better behind than in front. Very good coat with the correct textures of both top coat and undercoat. Enough bone and correct set-on and carriage of tail. Plenty of body substance and well muscled. DCC.

2.Hannington’s Boudivella Oscar, Good in skull but not quite the typical head and expression of 1. Moved out well behind, better there than in front, and was correct in typical topline. Needs a bit more coat to complete the picture. RDCC

JB (2)

1. Forbes’ Jeonty Dreams a Dream with Karensbrae, very typical in outline and moved around the ring very smartly. Moved well behind and in front as well, and had correct ears. Good width of skull and enough strength of foreface, Coat could be better. OK for size and good bone and correct body proportions. Well muscled behind. A very promising youngster which went on to win the RBCC

2. Tobijanski and Tobijanski’s Jeonty Glynis Making Magic for Zippor. Not showing to good advantage and seemed a bit scared of the wind and weather, needing more ring confidence. Good body and enough bone. Could move better but this was perhaps because she was just not happy in this ring and in this weather.

LB

A difficult class. (3)

1. Hannington’s Boudivella Tegan, scored in head type body shape and coat over the others but was not good in forequarters or front movement. Moved well enough behind however with enthusiasm. OK in spring of rib and had plenty of bone.

2 James& O’brien’s Amhard Jessie Jay, good in topline but quite long in body as compared to height, not so good in eye and expression as winner. Moved better behind than 3 and was of better size also.

3. Quarrie’s Rhumsaamist Glen Elfin at Quaywest.

OB (2)

1. Alstead’s Ch Sigrid Helga at Pantcottage, quite a smart bitch when she decides to show herself off to best advantage. Better for size than 2, and better in front as well. Pleasing in head and expression, Better eye than 2. Typical topline, which is where I think she scored over the dog for BOB. Plenty of substance but at the same time not too big. I thought that she had much type and quality and was pleased to award her BCC and BOB.

2. Quarrie’s Rhumsaamist Glen Maye at Quaywest, good coat for texture and quantity. Good head properties and correct width of skull. Moved OK behind. Biggish and rather over the desired 14 inch maximum

Judge Ronnie Irving

Blimey, we’ve been busy

Many parts of the world have been recording very high temperatures but Glen of Imaal Terrier folk obviously thrive on the heat.

For a change let’s start the round up in Canada. Not a big dog showing country but boy do they like Glens with Gleann Holy Hannah taking 2 x Group 1, 2x Group 2 and 2x Reserve Best In Show and Finnabair Double D Friend of A Friend taking the full set in Groups, one, two, three and four all on the same weekend!

In Finland at the Nastola Group Show Meomodo Boho’s Trick or Treat was Best of Breed, at the Nordic Pearytail Bonnie B Goode was BOB with Rosears Impromptu Best Dog and at Pori International Gleann Ungus MacGuire was BOB with Balloo Girl Best Opposite. Mikkeli International saw Gleann Indico Indy getting the nod for Best of Breed

In Ireland Poachersmoon Sissy McGinty was Best of Breed and at the EFG Fun Day (another event that was hot, hot, hot) a Dachshund was Best In Show and the Glen (who was on holiday from Germany) was Reserve Best In Show. By the weekend of Leeds Championship Show the weather had become wet, wet, wet but that didn’t stop Golden Spurs (Best Dog) and kennel mate Sigrid Helga at Pantcottage taking Best of Breed. The two Reserves to Boudivella Osca and Jeonty Dreams A Dream at Karensbrae.

The American branch of the family has been VERY active. Laura Trainor sends the following information:- 7/12 BOB OHG2, G2 GCH DAULTON’S CAOIMHE OF PINE MEADOW CA. Owner: Jody Daulton & PJ Estes & Ann Marie Pember    BOS CH DAULTON’S CIARAN OF PINE MEADOW Owner: JB & Nina Lawton & PJ Estes & Jody Daulton.

7/13 BOB OHG1 GCH DAULTON’S CAOIMHE OF PINE MEADOW CA. Owner: Jody Daulton & PJ Estes & Ann Marie Pember    BOS CH DAULTON’S CIARAN OF PINE MEADOW Owner: JB & Nina Lawton & PJ Estes & Jody Daulton

7/14 BOB, OHG2, G4  GCH DAULTON’S CAOIMHE OF PINE MEADOW CA. Owner: Jody Daulton & PJ Estes & Ann Marie Pember    BOS TIPPERARY BALLYFINBOY LIAM OF CNOC Owner: Laura Gilbert Trainor & Jo Lynn

At Grand River Kennel Club Finnabair Shorlyne Caatskill Comedy tonight was Best of Breed (and G4) with Tipperary Ballyfinboy Liam of Cnoc again Best Opposite that was the icing on his Best of Winners at Ashtabula KC on the 12th July as that was the final points for his American Championship. Caoimhe is really on song at the moment as BOB was also taken (twice) at Dan Emmett KC along with an OHG4 as well as two Best of Breeds at Western Reserve KC where a G4 and an OHG3 were collected as well. The two Best Opposites were Daulton’s Gedunk Malone from Emerald Isle and Daulton’s Sailor John of Roseglen. Marion (Ohio) KC also fell to her with Ciaran Best Dog again

Continuing in the States a new star arose at Terrier Association Of Oregon when Keadeen’s Happy Chance-at just under a year old-was nodded to for Best of Breed and then he took OHG1 and Group 4. Best Botch was Keadeen’s Second Star To The Right. The back to back shows at Portland Kennel Club saw Keadeen’s Second Star To The Right triumph at both with Keadeen’s Sir Emmet Mingus Glas and Keadeen’s Happy Go Lucky the Best Opposites. Another young star has also emerged further down the country at Woodstock Dog Club when 7 months old Kilkenny’s Stopping By Woods was Best Opposite and PG3 to his mother Kilkenny’s Granite Glen Rooney. This was again repeated at Green Mountain whilst at Green Mountain second show Rooney took the honours again with Ballyhae’s Winter Sunshine taking Best Opposite.

Way to go people!!

Bath critique

GLEN OF IMAAL JUDGE BATH 18

PD (1) 1. Hickman’s Romainville Rock a Fella. 7 mths old and maturing nicely, head coming on very well, nice body shape and proportions, just needs a bit more firmer handling to get the best out of him on the move.

LD (1)1. Tobijanski’s Romainville Becks Blue for Zippor. Nice overall size and shape and of good conformation, very good head, neat well carried ears, good bite, well ribbed body, moved very well, lacked coat but his positive virtues could not be denied. Dog CC.

OD (3.1) 1. Hannington’s Boudivella Oscar. Strongly made wheaten dog, nice overall size and shape, just carrying too much coat for me, moved soundly. Res DCC.

2. Alstead’s Ch Golden Spurs. Very good head with correct proportions, good body, let down today by standing too cramped up which spoiled outline, not as positive on the move as 1.

PB (2)1. Tobijanski’s Jeonty Glnis Making Magic for Zippor. Won this class on being more forward and maturity, nice length of body, good coat, moved soundly. Best Puppy.

2. George’s Romainville Rag Doll. Nice type but just needs more time and confidence in the ring.

JB (1)1. Campen’s Romainville Rock’N Rolla at Coedrhosyn. Nice profile with good head and carried well on the move, nice length of body, in good coat, tended to move close front and rear.

PGB (1)1. Studd & Wilson’s Wickholm New Moon. Nice balance, would prefer a little more strength in muzzle, not always using ears to advantage, good length of body, moved a little loose.

LB (4.1)1. Alstead’s Sigrid Helga at Pantacottage. Nice overall size and shape, would prefer head trimmed slightly different to present a more pleasing picture, good front construction, well made body and well set tail, coat Ok, moved soundly. Bitch CC and BOB.

2. George’s Romainville Maggie May. Solidly built but all in balance, carrying ears a little high, good neck and shoulders, in good coat.

3. Hannington’s Boudivella Tegan.

OB (1)1. George’s Romainville Whistle Dixie. Nice outline and lots to admire but not always putting 100% effort in, nice head shape with good expression, in good coat, moved Ok. Res Bitch CC.

VB (1) 1. Sage’s Jeonty Lola Way at Wickholm. 10 yrs old and still holding shape and profile well, good body shape, coat OK, movement a little loose in front.

Max King (Judge)

Oh we were busy!!!

Bank Holiday weekend so extra time for Glen of Imaal Terrier people to go showing and, boy, we sure did! There are a lot of results with a bunch from Scandinavia/Lithuania. If eyes crossed when writing them up just let me know.

Leading in with Bath Championship Show and applause for Sigrid Helga at Pantcottage who was BOB but more importantly it was her 3rd CC. Dog CC went to Romainville Becks Blue for Zippor with Romainville Whistle Dixie and Boudivella Osca taking the respective Reserves. Jeonty Glynis Making Magic For Zippor was Best Puppy & Jeonty Lola May at Wickholm Best Veteran.

The Helsinki Puppy Show saw Finnabair Broc Rua Arda at Gleann be awarded BOB with Meomodo Careless Cuinn Best Opposite. Joensuu International was atriumph for Finnabair North American Nebulon with Rosears Miss Miimos Best Bitch. The places were reversed at Joensuu All Breed Show the next day. Moleti International Dog Show saw Rosears Master of the House Best of Breed and Astoreen Best Opposite. Rauma Dog Show went to Gleann Indico Indy and BOS was Taramont Niamh Tirnan’Og. At the Lithuanian Terrier Club Show Gleann Flatbone Stiubhard was Best with Astoreen Best Bitch. Salo Group Show had Hammersmolles Rocket Saturn getting the nod for the big ribbon.

Finnabair Double D Friend of A Friend just has to lead the American round up with Groups 1 & 3 at back to back Bayou Kennel Club shows & then a Gp1 at Southern Arkansas KC. The Owner Handler Group was also seeing “Glendom” with a Group 1 for Tipperary That Girl at Trumbull County KC, OHG3 at Altoona Area Kennel Association and a repeat OHG3 at Newcastle KC. Holland Michigan Kennel Club saw another Glen Group placing for Abberann Phelan (Gp3) with Kilkenny’s Across The Universe at Setanta taking Best Opposite, the placings were reversed at Grand Rapids Kennel Club. Phelan was again BOB at Kalamazoo KC with Daulton’s Wild Night of Galore Best Opposite, Best owner Handler and OHG4. Hendersonville Kennel Club back to back shows had Kilkenny’s Middleton Irish Spirit taking BOB at both with another BOB at Spartanburg KC with Kilkenny’s Quandarry at Parrsons BOS.

The UK is really the only country that still has a lot of Open Shows and that (to many US & FCI) strange thing known as Varieties. To show a Glen of Imaal Terrier in those classes is to have conviction. Jeonty Dreams A Dream at Karensbrae was at Banff, Moray & Nairn Canine Club and bought home BAVNSC Terrier and G2, she also won Special Terrier Puppy, 1st in junior stakes, 4th in members stakes and 4th in The Mary McCance stakes.

Great going everybody!!
