SKC & Windsor critiques

It was great to see this chunky great breed in the ring, the entry was small but well represented in good quality, a breed that could do a day’s work. The temperament was wonderful with many enjoying their day out. Thank you all.

PGD (1) 1 Hardy Amhard Lightening Flash, this young dog was well constructed, in great condition, strength in jaw, balanced masculine head, scissor bite, dark expressive eyes, good depth of chest, good length of rib to loin but he was reluctant to walk around the ring.

LD (5)1 Hanninigton’s Boudivella Oscar another well presented dog in good condition, scissor bite, strength in head. dark eyes, deep chest, balanced rib to loin, strength in rear, moved well around the ring. RCC.

2 Hardy’s Amhard Justin Thyme, another strong dog, well balanced, pushed 1st for his place but just lost out in movement.

3 Hogburn’s Pajantick Razamataz.

OD (1)1 Hardy’s Amhard High Flyer this dog carries a lot of the good points in the breed, he took the ring as his place, strong scissor bite, great expressive eyes showing he was enjoying his day, strength in head, good front, balanced rib to loin, strong rear giving drive, well balanced dog who could do a day’s work, DCC & BOB.

PB (1)1 Hannington’s Boudivella Tegan young feminine bitch who enjoyed her day, moved well, lovely balanced head with expressive eyes, scissor bite, neat front, balanced rib to loin, good rear, presented well BP.

JB (1)1 Alstead’s Sigrid Helga At Pantcottage another feminine bitch who took my eye, presented in good condition, strong scissor bite, balanced head, lovely expression in dark eyes, neat front, good rib to loin ratio, muscular rear giving drive covering the ring well. BCC.

3 George & Sullivan’s Romainville Jean Genie

SKC & Southern Counties Critique

Firstly may I thank SKC for the appointment and the exhibitors for their entry. For most a way to travel and much appreciated.

Junior Dog (4.1) A quality class of youngsters ranging from 7 months to 16 months.

1)Hannington: Boudivella Oscar he has now reached that teenage stage a developing glen that now needs maturity. Body condition good, needs time now. Moved well both ways. Head, eye, muzzle and teeth okay. Presented well with good coat covering. Did enough to take the RCC.

2)Tobijanski: Romainville Becks Blue for Zippor. Having recently moved home has come on in the recent weeks. Good head and expression. At this stage was presented in excellent condition, however coat soft. Balanced throughout with good movement forward and back. A very good overall performance deserving BP.

3)Hogburn: Pajantick Razamataz. A youngster, presentation and condition very good. Developing well with good head and kind eye for age. However slightly longer in body and requires to muscle up but at 7 months has plenty of time, improving with each month. One to watch for the future. Moved well just missing out against the older competition.

 Post Graduate (1.1)

 Limit Dog          (2.1)

1)Perrie: Poachersmoon Angus Mag Og. Coming up 4 yrs. old and a strong substantial glen. It is nice to see that the owner has taken advice given and is working hard on presentation. Has a way to go but such an improvement. Strong head, keen eye and good foreface with a well-muscled body and deep chest. Well boned. Coat is much improved. Just lacked in rear movement and drive in the challenge.

Open Dog (2.1)

1)Hogburn: Pajantick Star Trooper. What a little showman he is turning into. 4 years old and maturing nicely. Loved his head and kind eye and in superb harsh coat condition presented well with adequate bone. Moved with drive and purpose, good angulation, giving nothing away. Mouth could be better but you could not take away from the overall glen it was his day and he deserved the CC and BOB. His presence in the group ring was noted as he moved out putting on a good performance.

Post Graduate Bitch (1.1)

1)Baldock: Ellerton Dusky Beauty. Again another 4 yr old and now maturing into a lovely brindle bitch. Well-proportioned head, excellent eye colour good foreface and good mouth. Excellent expression Well-muscled with deep chest and good spring of rib and carrying excellent bone. Good turn of stifle. Moving well. Taking the deserved CC just missing out against the dog who was not giving away his day.

Limit Bitch (2.1)

1)Hannington: Romainville Uptown Girl. 5 yr old mature bitch of excellent harsh dark brindle coat. Well-presented. Head slightly narrow for me, however good dentition and eye colour, nice expression. Moved out both ways with drive, carrying good overall muscle tone but of lighter bone and not so deep through. Though did enough to deserve RCC on the day.

It was with great excitement and honour I accepted a Judging Appointment for Glen of Imaal Terriers at Southern Counties CA. I can’t say I wasn’t disappointed when I received my entry, but when I was in the ring I was pleased with the quality of the dogs present, a big thanks to the exhibitors I had a great day.

Entries: 2 Absentees: 1
An excellent puppy, only 7 months old, powerful in head, dark eye uses ears well, teeth and bite second to none, excellent well boned front, enough rib for age, correct topline, strong well boned with good angulation, good coat, showed and moved well, one to watch when he matures.

Entries: 1 Absentees: 0
Good balanced dog, strength and depth to a good shaped head and jaw, correct topline, well boned and very powerful backend, muscle as hard as iron, showed and moved well with drive, a bit short in jacket, but a good confident dog I think could do a days work.

Entries: 1 Absentees: 0
A real feminine baby only 7 months old, beautiful expression, good headshape, excellent eye, good bone and front, enough body for age, hard coat, but didn’t show in her class, but moved well with tail up in the puppy challenge with her brother for best pup.

SKC (May) critique

The judge apologises for the late appearance. He sent his critiques out on one Word document and was not aware that the Glen of Imaal part had been missed.

Thank you to the Glen exhibitors for a decent entry. Type is a bit mixed at present which presented me with a few difficult decisions. Heads in particular concerned me.

Class 1141 JD (3 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: ALSTEAD Dr J Golden Spurs –very promising as he is such a good type. Cracking head on this youngster and as it turned out he possessed one of the best heads of the day with lovely ears. Good outline and moved ok in all directions. In this slow maturing breed there is much better to come if he develops as he is doing. Res CC which he won on his lovely breed type.

2nd: ROGERS Mrs C J Gleann Dynamo Man At Jeonty (Fin Imp) NAF TAF –a real baby as just 6 months old and giving loads away in a junior class. He has a super temperament with great attitude, lovely bone, the makings of a good head and moved well. Hopefully he will continue to develop along these lines. Best puppy.

Class 1143 LD (2 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: HARDY Mr & Mrs M L & A Amard High Flyer –I liked this one a lot, he has matured well with lovely substance but not coarse. He had character and was interested in everything around him, good coat texture and quality, moved well. Could well make up if he continues along these lines.
Class 1144 OD (3 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: GEORGE, Mrs K A & SULLIVAN Miss N C Romainville Billy Whizz-eyecatching dog as he has a good outline with all the substance and power that one needs in a Glen. He was lovely to go over on the table and was well presented and handled. Moved assertively and generally looked the finished package. I awarded him a Res CC as a young dog and I am pleased to see that he has more than fulfilled my expectations. CC and BOB. He is definitely the dog on form.

2nd: ROGERS Mrs C J Bregorrey Wannabe Victory By Jeonty-nice type but even at 3 still has some maturing to do as he still looks a touch up on the leg. Hopefully there is more development to come. Good headed dog. One for the future.
Class 1145 VD (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: HADLEY Mr A C & Mrs D M T Donvaleset Rebus-8 years old and at his peak. Nice outline, ok in head and a good mover. Under the coat there is actually a very nice dog who moves well and with different presentation he could be a contender.
Class 1146 JB (2 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: HARDY, Mrs A & TUNE Mrs J Amhard Jeez Louise-10 months and lots to like about this one. Good coat and condition, nice outline, lovely tail and moved well. I shall keep an eye on her.

2nd: GEORGE, Mrs K A & SULLIVAN Miss N C Romainville Maggie May- decent sort who was a bit in between coats and a bit reserved. Nice to go over but is quite weak behind which detracts.

Class 1147 PGB (3 Entries) Abs: 1

1st: GEORGE, Mrs K A & SULLIVAN Miss N C Romainville Fade To Grey-standing looks a good sort with nice neck and shoulders, not cooperating fully but handler got the best out of her, good presentation. A bit plain in head.

2nd: HARDY Mr & Mrs M L & A Amhard Indy Kate- not the most glamorous but there were things I preferred on this one. A difficult decision.
Class 1148 LB (2 Entries) Abs: 0

Interesting contest between these two. 1st: SEALL Mrs A Bregorrey Madam Defiance- very much my sort of head and was pleasing all over, moved well up and back, could do with a bit more substance.

2nd: BALDOCK Mrs B J Ellerton Dusky Beauty –better substance on this one and she had plenty of attitude. However she did not quite have the head of the winner and could not match her movement.

Class 1149 OB (4 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: HARLEY Mr D & Mrs V Ch Donvaleset Brier-steady and mature, nice outline, good coat, moved well up and back and well presented. Head is a bit strong for me. Res CC.

2nd: BALDOCK Mrs B J Ch Jeonty Maybe Daysee-nice solid girl, ok in head, a bit untidy up and back.

3rd: SEALL Mrs A Bregorrey Lady Belleisle

Class 1150 VB (1 Entries) Abs: 0

1st: SEALL Mrs A Ch Brockland Belle Bregorrey-very much my type, lovely headed girl, good neck and outline, feminine but still workmanlike, moved well and demonstrated how well Glens can last. Was pleased to award her the CC.

SKC critique

Glen of Imaal Terriers

Pleased to record that all have correct mouths.

JD (2) Two really good pups.1 White’s Abberann Phelan, he has a super head, just right for width or skull. Strong muzzle, super ears. Correct length of neck. Well laid shoulder. Super legs, just the right amount of bow. Well bodied. His topline is better moving than stood. Well muscled rear. Could just use rear better on move, but still only a baby. Very good in front. Thought he had lots of quality. CC & BOB;

2 George & Sullivan’s Romainville Jazz Man, not quite the head & front of 1, but has a slightly better rear & coat. Head has enough width, just not the strength of muzzle of 1. Correct neck. Well bowed front. Correct topline. Well sprung ribs. Well made rear. RCC.

PGD (2) 1 Hardy’s Amhard High Flyer, good moving young dog, just a bit between coats at the moment. Liked his head, correct eye & expression with well set ears. Very good shoulder, correct upper arm, but elbows could be tighter. Certainly has rise in his topline. Big rear;

2 Perrie & Campbell’s Poachersmoon Angus Mag Og, coat could look a bit tidier. Has a super head & a really lovely eye & expression. Neck is long enough but slightly forward in shoulder. Well sprung ribs, rise in topline. Can firm in rear.

LD (1) 1 George & Sullivan’s Romainville Billy Wizz, very good mover. Has a masculine head. Super eye & pigment, well set ears. Correct neck. Could have just a bit more angulation in his front. Bowed legs. Well sprung ribs. A tad long in loin. Correct topline. Well muscled rear. Coat could be harsher.

OD (1) 1 White’s Ir Ch/Cib Ch Abberann Karl, has a lovely head, typical expression. Super strength to his muzzle. Enough neck. Front assembly is just a bit forward & stands very wide in front, but OK on move. Well sprung ribs. Typical topline. Could have just a bit more hind angulation.

VD (0).

JB (1)1 Hardy’s Amhard Indy Kate, feminine bitch, but still with strength of head & width of body. Super eye & expression. Strong & lengthy neck. Could have a better shoulder & legs rather straight. Round feet. Well sprung ribs. Topline rises. Needs a little more hind angulation.

PGB (0).

LB (1) 1 Hannington’s Romainville Uptown Girl, feminine bitch, good outline, which she holds on the move. Liked her head, super eye & expression. Well set ears. Strong neck. Good front. Well ribbed with correct length of loin. Rise in topline. Would like more turn of stifle & hock. Just a bit close out & back. Lovely coat. CC.

OB (1)1 White’s Ch/Ir/Cib Ch Abberann Ennya, 9 years bitch, lovely head. Has a strong neck. Good width of chest. Fairly good front. Just a little soft in topline & coat is rather long, but still of good texture. Low hocks. Fair turn of stifle. Not muscle of the limit. RCC.

SKC 2012 critique

Glen of Imaal Terrier

Many thanks to the committee of SKC for their hospitality & the two very capable stewards for making my day enjoyable. My two CC winners were the best movers of the day. Thank you to all exhibitors for your support on this my first appointment awarding CCs.

PGD: 1) Kirikee Ronan O’Gara. Nice head & eye, excellent bite & correct ear shape, good lay of shoulders, deep chest with plenty of heart room, good topline, correct front feet position, a nice lad that will trouble the rest as he matures. I like this boy a lot but today movement let him down a little as he needed time to settle. 2) Jeonty Highland Boy. Good head & eye, good mouth, level topline, deep chest, correct tailset, well presented, just preferred front of first.

LD: 1) Amhard Freebooter. Brindle boy with good mouth, expressive eyes, good neck & shoulders, correct front, correct position of front feet, good angulations front & rear, harsh coat, moved with drive.

OD: 1) Amhard Damson Sauce. Brindle, correct bite, strong jaw, eyes of good colour, correct ear carriage, correct front with good feet, strong neck, good lay of shoulders. Correct length to upper arm. Good length to height ratio, nice turn of stifle, well muscled, good topline & tailset, correct coat texture. Moved with drive fore & aft. Nicely presented. Was pleased to award him his first CC. Well done. I didn’t realise till after the judging that this boy has several Res CCs under his belt. 2) Multi Champion Abberann Conan. Well presented dog with good bite, strong foreface with good width of skull, correct ear set, strong neck, deep chest, level topline to a correct set on tail. Well muscled, in good coat, just preferred the side gait movement of first on the day. Res CC. 3) Abberann Karl. Young dog that has to mature for this class but has lots of promise. Good head & bite with correct ear placement, strong neck leading into well placed shoulders, deep chest, good topline with correct tail set, good angulation, moved well with drive.

JB: 1) Amhard Ginger Snap. Wheaten with good bite, good eye colour, typical young Glen expression, she used her ears which were the correct size & shape. Good neck & shoulder placement, deep chest, level topline & good tail set, neat feet with good turn out, nice rear angulation, moved with drive. Res CC & BP.

PGB: 1) Bailielands Leanbh Orga (Jun Ch). Wheaten of 20 months. Nice bitch with good bite, strong jaw, pleasing head & eye, good width to skull, deep chest with plenty of heart room, nice lay of shoulder, good angulation, moved well with good driving action. 2) Amhard Ginger Galore. Wheaten with pretty head, a little longer in muzzle than her litter sister, nice dark eye, correct ear set & placement, good topline & tailset, moved well.

OB: 1) Ir/Ch Abberann Ennya. Wheaten I have admired from being a youngster & not disappointed going over her, loads of ring presence. Good bite, expressive eyes, good width of skull, correct ears, well muscled neck leading onto good shoulders, good front, deep chest, good topline, good turn of stifle, well off for bone, very powerful girl which shows in her movement, a rear driving action made her movement look effortless as she floated around the ring. Shown well, only criticism was her coat, I have seen her in better jacket but it didn’t stop her being awarded the CC & BOB. 2) Ir Ch Abberann Eilish at Kirikee. Correct mouth, nice head piece, appealing dark eyes, nice front & feet, strong neck, good lay of shoulders, deep chest, correct topline, well off for bone, presented in lovely coat & condition but her movement was very unsettled today. 3) Amhard Extra Spice. Good mouth, dark eye, correct front, shoulder & topline, good tailset, good coat texture. Movement okay.

SKC (May) critique

PGD: 1) Romainville Brannigan at Brockland, wheaten, good strong head, dark eye, spot on mouth, well laid back, good balanced body, moved soundly. 2) Jeonty Highland Boy, well balanced, moving well. Just preferred bite of 1 & jacket at this moment. 3) Amhard Freebooter.

LD: 1) Johnny Be Good at Romainville, wheaten, correct size, good strong head, correct jaw, bite spot on, strong neck & well laid shoulders, good body & topline, well set tail, coat in very good condition, sound mover, RCC. 2) Jeonty Wannabee Bauer, wheaten, what a lovely looking dog when stood but let down so badly on the move which despite his handler’s determination to try & get him to move could not & therefore paid the price.

OD: 1) Ch/Int Ch Brockland Brayhead Lad, brindle, such a beautiful outline, so alert, in hard condition, such sound positive movement. I would like to thank the owner/breeder for showing him to me for a second time. He is a credit to the breed. CC & BOB. 2) Amhard Damson Sauce, brindle, shade smaller than 1. Sound head, good bite, extremely alert, good body & topline, tailset good, movement sound. Pushed for Reserve CC but decided in the Challenge it was playtime which cost him dearly.

JB: 1) Winnie Wanna Make Music by Jeonty, sweet head & very nice dark eye. Not alert today. Good neck & shoulder. Appeared to have an extended topline which is not helped by her tailset. Has wonderful free movement & positive attitude. Jacket coming on nicely.

LB: 1) Jeonty Maybee Daysee, wheaten, very feminine head, dark eye, nice bite. Not always alert. Strong neck, front & rear sound, super outline, well set happy tail. Her jacket could do with sorting out to fulfill the picture. CC. 2) Abberann Delta Lady at Norriss, very small bitch, dark eye, not very much underjaw. Front & rear okay. Not the best of toplines, waving her tail & enjoying her day out. Moved freely. Her coat needs attention.

OB; 1) Ch Jeonty Hasa ceilidh with Karensbrae, brindle, a true favourite of mine but today she is not as laert as I have seen her in the past. Still a lovely outline, with age her dentistry is well worn. Moved well & in good condition. Her young handler pulled out all the stops. RCC
