Let’s applaud ourselves…we deserve it!

Let’s start the Glen of Imaal Terrier round up for this last weekend in the UK with the EFG Open Show. It continued the “double theme” of National Terrier with both Best Dog & Bitch going to the same kennel. Golden Spurs was Best Dog (and Best In Show) with Romainville Billy Whizz Reserve Best Dog who also took Reserve Best In Show. Best Bitch (and Best Opposite in Show) went to Sigrid Helga at Pantcottage over Jeonty Lola May at Wickholm as Reserve Bitch with Lola, at one month short of 10, taking Best Veteran. Best Puppy was Jeonty Glynis Making Magic at Zippor. The EFG is held in conjunction with Birmingham Gundog & Terrier-the only time currently that Glen people can show twice in one day under two different judges-with Boudivella Osca taking Best of Breed there and Jeonty Jyn A New Hope Best Bitch. Also a Glen was performing in the very competitive NSC classes with Kingcottage Boogie on Basil taking Best NSC at Llanelli and District Canine Society Open Dog Show .

A quick flip west to Ireland for the Mid West Champ Show and Best of Breed Abberann Cosmic Cowboy. East to mainland Europe and Latvia with a BOB for Marfidal Pleasant Surprise and then Lithuania for their National All Breed Show and Finnabair North American Nebulon who took home the BOB rosette. Not often results from the Czech Republic so excellent to hear that Sachem Sagittarius was BOB at Budejovice. Coming back this way again, to Antwerp, it was Jeonty Junior Fire and Ice flying the breed flag there to BOB.

Way west to the States and here are the Group placers. Keadeen’s Sir Emmet Mingus Glas was BOB, and Group 2, at Palouse Hills Dog Fanciers with half sister Keadeen’s Second Star To The Right Best Opposite and the result was the same for the second show and Lewis Clark Kennel Club.  Western Carolina Dog Fanciers Association saw another  2 Group placements, Gp 1 & Gp4, for Finnabair Double D Friend of A Friend. News of a Terrier Puppy Group 1 at the Central Ohio KC Puppy Match for Finnabair Broc Rua Pegasus with Shorlyne. Columbia Terrier and Old Dominion KC of Northern Virginia saw double Best of Breed for Tipperary Columbo with Finnabair Shorlyne Caatskills Comedy Tonight Best Opposite at both. Columbo was again BOB at Baltimore County KC. A Baby Puppy Group 1 for Kilkenny’s The Gift Outright to Irish Spirits at Central Ohio KC.

Breed brains were doing well and Jeonty Dreams A Dream with Karensbrae got her entry into The Good Citizen class at shows by qualifying at 8 months old. Kelli Whitfield sends news that “Griffin played NADAC agility on Friday. He earned his first Open Touch N Go qualifying score and first place as Winston cheered him on! Monique sends word “Ginny earned her first Q and placed first in a Novice Preferred Jumpers class at an AKC Agility trial this weekend!!!”

People, you are just amazing!!

Still getting the name out!

Glen of Imaal Terrier folk are still getting the name of the breed out and about. Pride of place this week has to go to the latest, and youngest, member of the “shout out” team. Finnabair Broc Rua Arda of Gleann was in Estonia at her first show and only went on to take Best Puppy and then Best Baby Puppy in Show! Also in Estonia at the Tallinn Winners Cairdiulacht Daibhi MacMiolmor was Best of Breed over Pearytail Bonnie B Goode. At the Terrier Specialty the following day Daibhi had the bow the paw as Madra Athas Ceinlys Chead Ghra was Best of Breed. In Finland at Vaasa International Dog Show Gleann Flatbone Stiubhard was Best of Breed with BOS being awarded to Gleann Dear Dandelion. Utrecht International Dog Show saw Boudivella Osca being awarded Best Dog & BOB with Boudivella Tegan Best Opposite.

In America Keadeen’s Second Star To The Right was at Moses Lake for BOB and Group 3. Jeonty Golden Memo was at a cluster of shows in California and took Best of Breed at both Northern California Terrier Association Shows as well as Sacremento KC.

Griffin was showing another talent by doing 5 AKC FAST CAT runs. FAST CAT is a timed 100 yard run with the dog chasing a mechanically operated lure. 19 miles and hour is going some in a short legged breed!

Congratulations everyone!

Certainly a different Crufts…..

….well it was for Glen of Imaal Terrier exhibitors and admirers. 2nd in ring 6 so you turn up there and, okay not the biggest entry, where is everybody and where’s my bench, where’s my breeder, where’s my family? Somebody, somewhere had suffered from a rush of blood to the head when drawing up the benching plan and Glens were one side of ring 6 and one side of ring 5; so far apart we couldn’t even see each other! Being as stoic as our breed there was a lot of sighing and a lot of walking to each other (Welsh & Airedales were between us) but then there was a “sod it, this is rubbish” and the organiser’s office was visited for a non-official, official complaint. Vanessa McAlpine said it most certainly shouldn’t have happened and she’d find out why and get back. What she finds out will be reported on here.

Nobody had travelled from abroad this year but the Quarrie’s & Lin Smith, being from the Isle of Man & Guernsey, certainly got their travelling miles. There were folk new to the breed and people returning once more to Glens. It was great to see everybody and everything certainly seemed to go well. Admittedly the Bring & Share had a bit of a problem with the ridiculous benching arrangements as it isn’t a good idea to leave your dogs but a lot of food was “brunged” and it was shared via platefuls being taken away.

Dog CC & Best of Breed was awarded to Boudivella Oscar with the Reserve CC going to his uncle, Romainville Billy Wizz. Bitch CC went to Jeonty Minnie MeMe and the Reserve went to the Isle of Man with Rhumsaamist Glen Maye at Quaywest. Best Puppy travelled to the north of Scotland with Jeonty Dreams A Dream of Karensbrae (daughter of the bitch ticket winner) and Best Veteran went to the positively infantile-in Glen veteran terms-Kirikee Celtic Warrior.

Various Glen people around the world have asked, as “we’re so good”, if there is any chance of a full set of photographs? Flattery like that and anything can be done. Feel free to share them collectively or individually but a credit to either RBT (International) or the EFG blog would be appreciated.

As usual they’ll be more about Glens at Crufts tomorrow

SKC & Windsor critiques

GLEN OF IMAAL TERRIER

It was great to see this chunky great breed in the ring, the entry was small but well represented in good quality, a breed that could do a day’s work. The temperament was wonderful with many enjoying their day out. Thank you all.

PGD (1) 1 Hardy Amhard Lightening Flash, this young dog was well constructed, in great condition, strength in jaw, balanced masculine head, scissor bite, dark expressive eyes, good depth of chest, good length of rib to loin but he was reluctant to walk around the ring.

LD (5)1 Hanninigton’s Boudivella Oscar another well presented dog in good condition, scissor bite, strength in head. dark eyes, deep chest, balanced rib to loin, strength in rear, moved well around the ring. RCC.

2 Hardy’s Amhard Justin Thyme, another strong dog, well balanced, pushed 1st for his place but just lost out in movement.

3 Hogburn’s Pajantick Razamataz.

OD (1)1 Hardy’s Amhard High Flyer this dog carries a lot of the good points in the breed, he took the ring as his place, strong scissor bite, great expressive eyes showing he was enjoying his day, strength in head, good front, balanced rib to loin, strong rear giving drive, well balanced dog who could do a day’s work, DCC & BOB.

PB (1)1 Hannington’s Boudivella Tegan young feminine bitch who enjoyed her day, moved well, lovely balanced head with expressive eyes, scissor bite, neat front, balanced rib to loin, good rear, presented well BP.

JB (1)1 Alstead’s Sigrid Helga At Pantcottage another feminine bitch who took my eye, presented in good condition, strong scissor bite, balanced head, lovely expression in dark eyes, neat front, good rib to loin ratio, muscular rear giving drive covering the ring well. BCC.

LB (3)1 Hannington’s Romainville Uptown Girl feminine dark bitch with strong scissor bite, balanced head with good expression in eyes, neat front, balanced rib to loin, muscular rear giving drive, moved well. RCC.

2 Hardy’s Amhard Indy Kate another feminine bitch who challenged well, but not as settled as 1st, strong scissor bite, good balance of head, neat front, good ratio of rib to loin, muscular rear.

3 George & Sullivan’s Romainville Jean Genie
