Blimey, we’re good.

Sometimes a show just has to start the Glen of Imaal Terrier catch up and this is one of those weeks; National Terrier. It’s considered one of the highlights of the terrier world and folk were there in force and it was a double, double result. Best of Breed and Best Opposite to the same owner with the two Reserves to the same owner…..and there was getting on for 40 years in the breed difference between them so ably illustrating that it is possible to do well with a Glen whoever you are. Something else was gloriously illustrated as well; Glens just get better and better as they get older. In possibly the majority of breeds animals of 10 & 12 wouldn’t be considered for serious showing. As there was no veteran class these mere youngsters were entered with everybody. One stood second between a two and three year old and the other swept all before him as he took the Dog ticket and BOB. Abberann Conan had one of the ultimate compliments paid by a judge who happened to be walking by the ring “that can’t be Homer surely!” To be recognised and known by his call name, that’s the way to go. Bitch CC to him was his kennel mate Daulton’s Midnight Sky of Galore which gave her the CH to add to the others at the front of her name. The two reserves went home in the proud pocket of Jane Alstead with the awarding to her Golden Spurs and Sigrid Helga at Pantcottage. Best Puppy went to Jeonty Dreams a Dream with Karensbrae who earned extra kudos for Glens with a 4th in the Puppy Stakes as well as a placing in the YKC Handling.

The Pearytail D litter debuted at the Kotka Puppy Show weekend and had rather a successful time. Pearytail Donald Dump took BOB both days over his sister Pearytail Dillion Dollar Baby and then topped it with a Group 3 and a Group 4. Sundsvall (Finland) saw Gleann Flatbone Stiubhard take home the Best of Breed rosette. Meomodo Boho’s Trick or Treat was having a trip to Lithuania and took Best of Breed both days as well as being shortlisted in the Group on Day 1. My Dear Fellow Cordula The Angel was BOB & BP at Dresden whilst Jeonty Junior Fire & Ice was picking up the applause at the International Show in Luxembourg.

Finnabair Double D Friend of a Friend had a great cluster in Alabama. Group 1 both days at Tuscaloosa KC with Group 2 & 1 at the Birmingham KC shows. Be-D-Mar Sweet William took a G4 at Trap Falls KC and Abberann Lament for Owen Roe was at Packerland KC over Easter and took Group 4.

Lots of “beauty” but the brains of the breed were also on the go over the weekend when Ginny added another title to the back of her name so BCAT (AKC Fast CAT-100 yard Coursing Ability Test) joins the rest

National Terrier is often on Easter weekend but this year it was missed by a week. Nicki Montford said she would “provide cake” in honour and what a creation it was. Chocolate cake, with more chocolate cake and decoration of mini eggs and crème eggs. Suffice to say none of it returned home with her. Thanks Nic, it was greatly appreciated. Over the years Glen of Imaal Terrier owners have fought a long battle on how the name is spelt, it’s part of owning the breed, but jaws dropped when arriving at the benching area at National Terrier. The first Championship Show to gives us classes, the show that terrier folk go to and there it was….Glen of IMMAL. The Chairman and Secretary of NT, when the matter was bought to their attention, both swore innocence and said there would be spelling and breed awareness courses introduced before next year. We expect nothing less!

Great weekend everybody.

My thanks to the committee for their invitation also to the exhibitors for their entries. I appreciate some had long journeys in uncertain weather conditions at this time of the year.

VD/B (3,1) 1. Harley’s Ch Donvaleset Brier. So much to like about this 10 yr old wheaten bitch with nice outline, proportions, lovely feminine expression with correct bite and dark eye. Good front assembly with ample bone, depth of chest and good angulation front and rear, Still well muscled throughout and in good harsh coat, well presented.  Moved well whilst holding her top line.

  1. Sage’s Jeonty Lola May at Wickholm. A 9 yr old wheaten bitch with a good head, nice feminine expression, dark eye, correct ear set and bite.   Good proportions with correct top line and tail set. In good harsh coat, neatly presented. On the day preferred movement of 1.

MPD (1) Hardy’s Amhard Manhattan. An appealing 6mth old blue youngster with nice outline and proportions, A good head with well defined stop, correct bite, ear set, and dark eye thus giving a lovely expression. Good angulation  front and rear and muscling up well for his age. In good coat, he enjoyed his debut in the ring, moving well with a nice tail carriage. Handled well.

PD (1) Hardy’s Amhard Manhattan

JD (1) White’s Abberann Cosmic Cowboy (IMP USA) A 10mth old blue youngster with pleasing outline and proportions. Skull of good width, correct ear set, dark eye and bite. Moved with drive holding his top line showing a good tail carriage. Pleased to award him BPIS

Skull of good width with powerful foreface, correct ear set, dark eye and bite. Correct front assembly with strong neck and well boned. Good angulation front and rear, and depth of chest. Well sprung ribs and nicely muscled up throughout with strong hindquarters and good bend of stifle. Moved with drive holding his top line showing a correct tail carriage.  In good coat, well presented. With more handler experience this boy should achieve more awards. Pleased to award him RDCC

LD (1) Hardy’s Amhard Just In Thyme. A 3 ½ year old wheaten male with the impression of substance. Good head with correct ear set, dark eye and bite, giving such an appealing Glen expression. Forequarters stronger than rear with well boned foreleg and correct turn of foot. Shoulders broad and well laid back. In good harsh coat, neatly presented, he lacked enthusiasm on the move today.

OD (4,1) 1. White’s CH, IR, AM & SW CH Abberann Conan. Over the years many superlatives have been said about this 12yr old blue showman and I was delighted to have the opportunity to add my own. He has an excellent outline and proportions giving the impression of strength, essential in a Glen. In good coat, so well presented as always. His gentle expression belies a strong head and jaw with required correct ear set, dark eye and scissor bite. Fit for purpose, he has the desired front assembly and bone with strong hindquarters and depth of chest together with correct angulations. He is still well muscled throughout and commanded the ring with his balanced movement, tail carried gaily. Pleased to award him DCC & BIS

  1. Hannington’s Boudivella Osca A lot to like about this wheaten male of 2 yrs and 10mths, differing in type to 1. He has a pleasing outline with good proportions, and a strong head with correct ear set, dark eye and bite. Desired front assembly, with ample bone, strong neck and good depth of chest. Good angulation front and rear, and well muscled throughout. In good coat and well presented, he moved well with correct tail carriage.

MPB (1) Hardy’s Amhard Mai Tai. A lovely 6 mth old youngster, litter sister to the PD winner. Pleasing feminine head with dark eye and good bite. An appealing expression, used to advantage, making her the exhibit I’d like to have taken home with me. Good front and rear angulation with correct top line and tail set. Muscling up well for her age and in good coat. She enjoyed her debut in the ring and once settled, moved well. Handled sensitively and unfortunate to come against a more mature dog for the puppy challenge.

PB (1) Hardy’s Amhard Mai Tai

JB (1,1a)

PGB (1) Saletti’s Bendikes Fidelma A 2 yr old blue bitch with a pleasing head, correct bite, ear set and  nice feminine expression.  Good proportions but would have liked more angulation and substance. In good coat and neatly presented.  Unsettled on the move but improved later in the bitch challenge.

LB (1) Alstead’s Sigrid Melga At Pantcottage This blue brindle bitch, litter sister to the RDCC winner, has a good outline and correct proportions. Good head, dark eye and correct bite. Correct front assembly, good bone and angulations front and rear. She is well muscled throughout in nice harsh coat but quite sparse on rear pasterns. Moved well with drive keeping her good top line and tail carriage. Maturing nicely and one to watch.

OB (3) White’s IR & NL CH Daulton’s Midnight Sky Of Galore. At almost 4yrs this blue bitch has a solid appearance with good outline and proportions. Correct harsh coat in good condition and well presented. A strong head with correct ear set, dark eye and bite showing a typical Glen expression to her advantage. Correct front, good bone and angulation front and rear with a deep chest, nice spring of ribs, and strong hindquarters.  Fit for purpose, she moved with drive maintaining her top line and tail carriage. Pleased to award her BCC & RBIS

2 Sage’s CH Wickholm Breaking Dawn. At almost 2 yrs there is so much to like about this wheaten bitch, different in type to 1. A good outline and proportions giving the impression of substance. In good harsh coat, well presented. A strong head, with correct bite and dark eye.  Good bone and angulations front and rear, she is well muscled throughout. A deep chest with well sprung ribs and strong hindquarters.  Moved well holding her top line.

A bit quieter this weekend

The weekend before December and for many it’s the start of Christmas Shopping but some Glen of Imaal Terrier people are still out and about. The Glen Association Championship Show was judged by Ann Quinn and it was certainly worth the long trip for the Whites. Best In Show was awarded to Abberann Conan who also took Best Veteran (our oldies are having a ball at the moment) with Best Opposite Sex going to Daulton’s Midnight Sky of Galore. Best Puppy was “Conan’s boy” Abberann Cosmic Cowboy. The two Reserves were Rollo The Great and Donvaleset Brier, who is also a Veteran. West Midlands Terrier was another veteran BOB in the shape of Johnny Be Good at Romainville. Two HauHau Shows in Finland. The first one saw Highlander’s Dream Casper take BOB with Gleann Una Noonan Best Bitch. The results were reversed on Day 2 with Una Noonan being awarded BOB with Dream Casper Best Opposite.

Just a couple of shows reporting in from America. At Agathon Kennel Club Tipperary American Girl was Best of Breed and Daulton’s Captain Jack of Roseglen was Best Dog. At the second Agathon show American Girl again triumphed, plus OHG4, with Daulton’s Sailor John of Roseglen getting Best Opposite.

Griffin was adding to his alphabet of titles as he obtained his Excellent Jumpers with Weaves so he needs a lot of room now for a full shout out- Champion Ber-D-Mar Ballygriffin of Greystone BN RE NAP OJP JE CAX BCAT RATO CGCA TKP AJP

Well done all.

1 White’s Abberann Cosmic Cowboy. Blue puppy with promise, liked his overall make and shape, just needs to settle and when he does should trouble the best.

The breed knows our Veterans are good!

Glen of Imaal Terrier people know that we are a breed that gets better as we get older. Not for us the puppy champ and over the hill by 3 route. Glens are a breed that celebrate getting older and this weekend our senior flag flew tall and proud when Abberann Conan took Best of Breed and Group 4 in his twelfth year at Belfast Show. Best Bitch was his kennel mate Abberann Reach for the Stars Ryanne with Boudivella Osca and Daulton’s Midnight Sky of Galore taking the relevant Reserves with Romainville Rock on Lizzie Best Puppy.

At the Copenhagen Winners Best of Breed was awarded to MacCormac Setna Sithbacc and Pearytail Bonnie B Goode was Best Opposite Sex. Tallin International Show was a wave to the top spot for Gleann Dynamite Mike with Gleann Elite Ellie Best Bitch.

Keadeen’s Second Star to the Right was taking a short break in Montana and annexed two Best of Breeds and a Group 4 and at Butler County KC on day 1 Daulton’s Wild Night of Galore took BOB with Tipperary American Girl Best Bitch with American Girl getting BOB on the second day and OHG2.

A first reporting of an award; who knew that Australia has “Best Neuter” awards? Ch Taufield Queen of Tara was at three shows recently and was awarded Best Runner Up Neuter in all three Groups.

Monique sends the following for the “brains” department-

Ginny had a fun weekend of Scent Work trials! At Saturday’s USCSS (US Canine Scent Sports) event, she earned her titles in both Novice Interior and Novice Vehicle, completing her overall Novice Variable title!  She also qualified in an Intermediate Containers class.  Sunday was a PSD (Performance Scent Dogs) trial and she earned her Novice Exteriors title and a qualifying leg in Advanced Exteriors with 2 seconds to spare.

Congratulations to everybody and it has to be extra applause on behalf of us all for Conan at Belfast.

Twice IN ONE WEEK!!!!!

Even the  most ardent Glen of Imaal Terrier fan must admit that Glens aren’t exactly the usual animal chosen by Best In Show judges. Not that many of us manage to get through the Group, never mind getting the nod for the Ultimate Rosette, but this week TWO Glens have flown the breed flag loud and proud.

In France at a Terrier Specialty Pajantick Razzamatazz  was the first one to get the pointed finger to the Top Spot. Over in America a cluster in Oklahoma saw an unbelievable 4 Group 1sts, 1 RBIS and 1 BIS for Finnabair Double D Friend of a Friend. Gentlemen we salute you!! Tipperary American Girl gave a shout for the ladies with a Group 3 at Bushy Run Kennel Club.

At Windsor Boudivella Osca was BOB with Boudivella Tegan Best Bitch and Best Puppy. Bray was a nod for the ever young Abberann Conan with Daulton’s Midnight Sky of Galore Best Opposite. Over in Scandinavia Tuusula All Breed was a success for Jeonty Just a Dream Ansa and her Finnish Championship. It was the same at Riihimaki when Pearytail Candy McCoy’s BOB also gave her a Finnish Champion, Rosears Master of the House was Best Dog. At the Midnight Show in Gallivare (Sweden) BOB was Gleann Eager Edgar with Gleann Gilda with Nelli Best Bitch.

Gabriella Isabella writes “Hurray! It was the Glen- weekend at our terrierclubshow in Wittau-Großenzersdorf. Duana was second best an on sunday best baby. Mum Aoife was second and third best longlegged terrier. And what a surprise Bairre, Aoife and Duana were selected as best breeding group. We were so happy, to see our breeding acivities honored. Thank you to all that made our success possible” and Kate Flack brings us all up to date on her BIG dog showing trip “Left home June 12 & of the 14 possible show days we showed 10. Em (Keadean Sir Emmet Mingus Glas) worked hard – but our daily routine and focus paid off: 1-Terrier Group 1 (Judge Robert Hutton); 3 Terrier Group 4s (Judges Del Richards, Kenneth Berg, Carolyn Graham); 1 NOHS BIS (Judge Evalyn Gregory); 2 NOHS RBIS (Judges Robert Hutton, Wendy Maisey); 5 NOHS Terrier Gr1; 2 NOHS Terrier Gr2; 2 NOHS Terrier Gr3; and, 2 NOHS Terrier Gr4.”

Everybody, you are such a credit to us all!!!
