End of July…

…and Glen of Imaal Terrier folk are flying the flag with enthusiasm

First time results from the Split 4 Day Summer Show with some very handsome rosettes, and her Croatian Championship, lifted by Pearytail Bonnie B Goode. Pori International was a Best of Breed for Gleann Ungus MacGuire with Balloo Girl Best Bitch. Ohio saw a four day cluster and results are in for three. Finnabair Double D Friend of a Friend featured on all days with 2 Best of Breeds and a Best Opposite and Tipperary American Girl taking one Best of Breed and one Best Opposite with an OHG2 & OHG4. Daulton’s Caoimhe of Pine Meadow took the other Best Opposite and also a OHG3. At Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club Keadeen Sir Emmet Mingus Glas took a Group 1 & 4 as well as 2 owner handler Group1s and an OHRBIS so a nice weekend there!

Monique Anthony sends “Ginny had a fun day at the USCSS (United States Canine Scent Sports) scentwork trial in Westford, MA. She qualified in all 4 of her classes (Novice Interior & Vehicle, and Intermediate Exterior & Container) and earned a 3rd place in Containers.

The Game Fair was down at Hatfield House, Hertford and Glen of Imaal Terriers were there in the Discover Dogs area. Had an email that said “nice to see the Glens there” and just learnt (thanks Nicki) it was the Hanningtons manning the fort as well as the Atkins. Just as important as any dog show.

The Finnish Glen Speciality mentioned last week was far more than just a one day dog show as there was a weekend Glen happening which also included weight pulling, lure coursing, lots of competitions for children etc.

Well done indeed everybody!!

Impact of Exercise on Puppy Growth Plates

As an achrondroplasic breed Glen of Imaal Terrier breeders and particularly companion owners sometimes scratch their heads over what exactly are “growth plates”. This article has been sent and the author is happy for anybody to copy it to go into any puppy information packs.

What’s the American Owner Handler Groups about?

That query was received as, on the Monday round ups, many American Glen of Imaal Terrier owners report Owner Handler placements and it is something totally unknown in the rest of the world. The AKC bought it in because so many US fanciers employ professional handlers. Full details about it can be read here

New Champions

Not too much catching up this week but lots of excitement in two Glen of Imaal Terrier households with two new Champions being made up. At Leeds Championship Show 3rd CCs went to both the Best of Breed Golden Spurs and the Best Bitch Wickholm Breaking Dawn. Reserves were Boudivella Oscar and Jeonty Lola May at Wickholm with Boudivella Tegan Best Puppy.

Last weekend Keadeen Sir Emmet Mingus Glas at Coos Bay KC took a Group 3 and OH Group 3  and Sunday a Group 4 and OH Group 1. Terrier Association of Oregon was a BOB for Keadeen Second Star To The Right with Sir Emmet Best Dog. This was repeated at Portland kennel Club whilst the second Portland was again a triumph for Second Star with Keadeen’s Kind of Blue getting Best Opposite. An update from last weekend as well as Abberann Whiskey You’re the Devil got two Baby Puppy Group 1s, 1x group 2 and Best Baby Puppy in Show. Kilkenny’s Across The Universe to Setanta won the Group in South Bend.

Rosears Master of the House with Best of Breed at Porvoo whilst at the Finnish Glen Speciality Highlanders Dream Casper was Best with Gleann Una Noonan Best Bitch-a fabulous 42 Glens entered.

Great news that Laura Trainor and Niamh have had the call for the 2017 AKC Agility Invational

Great going everybody!!!

For the Diary

Saturday September 2nd will see a Glen of Imaal Terrier Walk in Surrey so ideal if you in the south-whether already owning one or would like to meet some with a view to having one. It will begin at Epsom Downs Racecourse, The Old London Road Car Park, KT18 5PP. Meet up at 10.30 to start walking at 11. There is a Beefeater pub on the corner for anyone who wants to have lunch afterwards, sadly no dogs allowed in the pub but it is believed they are allowed in the garden. If that’s not up your street we are meeting right beside a food hut and there is a Co-op around the corner plus a corner shop for snacks. Any questions? Lynne Fraser (07974293121) is the lady to contact. Oh yes and if you want to bring an honorary Glen it’s more than welcome but do let Lynne know

SKC & Windsor critiques

Group placements galore & 30 for supper!

Vermont seems to like Glen of Imaal Terriers. A Group 2 for Finnabair Double D Friend of a Friend whilst Best Opposite Kilkenny’s Best of My Love took OHG1. Friday friend of a Friend was again BOB with Kilkenny’s Granite Glen Rooney BOS. The star of the day was Finnabair DD Shut Up & Kiss Me who was BP, BPG1 and BPIS. Saturday was Groups again, Friend of a Friend Gp3 and Glen Rooney OHG4. Friend of a Friend again Gp3 on Sunday & once more Rooney Best Bitch. That show was also the scene of triumph for the breed in the 4-6 month puppy with Abberann Whiskey You’re the Devil taking baby Group 1.  In Ohio Tipperary American Girl, besides BOB was awarded OHG1 & OHG2 at two show there. Jeff Dairiki reports that last weekend Ciaran (Keadeen Blue Boy of Bluesette) finished his weekend with 2xBOB, 2xBOS, 4xOHBOB & 1OHG4.

At Hyvinkaa All Breed Show Pearytail Candy McCoy led the Glens with Highlander Dream Casper Best Dog. It was another “lady” who led the way at Sligo when Abberann Reach For The Stars Ruari was BOB over Abberann Conan. At the July Klub Sieger exhibition Best of Breed and Best Veteran was Billy Tow vom Au Deich and  Fear Fiuntair Candy Keva Best Opposite

And finally….how did THE day go at Swineshead? Rather well actually. It was a bit dull but nothing like the rain forecast. The ultimate sin was committed as the cake stall ran out. All the raffle prizes went and 30, yes 30, folk were along the tables for supper. So it was alright then.
