Let’s hear it for…….

…..the stars of Discover Dogs. Glen of Imaal Terriers may have performed in the exhibition ring on Saturday but other Glens were there all four days to be loved, petted, photographed, admired and talked to. Dodi, May, Fern, Basil, Alfie, Mutley, Kaos, Poppy, Misty & Flynn you (and your people) did us proud. Thank you.

There was also a Glen “somewhere else”. Caitlin Forbes has always been an enthusiastic YKC supporter and this was her final year. She took Jeonty Dreams A Dream with Karensbrae into the YKC 18-24 Terrier & Hound where they came 3rd and 4th in YKC Terrier Stakes. The breed also had a presence in the absolute final with Jen Tobijanski who had come first in the Terrier Stakes. She was handling her own champion Sealyham but she shares her home with two Glens.

The “seen on the television” glimpses are Caitlin, Mutley on Friday & Basil on Saturday. Basil made the entire opening sequence, nice going boy for sitting still so long. If there are any more let us know so they can have a shout out.

Crufts closes on Monday

Crufts entries close on Monday. Terrier day is Saturday March 9th and Glen of Imaal terriers will be judged by Jeff Horswell. The breed is first in (9.00am) ring 6, hall1. Remember to order a car park pass at eleven pounds as it is sixteen if paid on the day.

If you can’t get on the Saturday Glen of Imaal Terriers are there all four days in Discover Dogs. Anne Hardy is organising so if you are available to help out in the booth do drop her an email to see if any more help is needed.

Another week and another Best In Show

Wow, Glen of Imaal Terriers are doing well at the moment. At The French Terrier Club Show Pajantick Razamataz took Best of Breed and then Best In Show. Well done indeed. The European Winners was in Poland this year and Glens attended from Austria, Denmark, England, Finland, Germany & Poland. Cairdiulacht Aoife NicAlainna from Austria was Best Of Breed with Finn Glenn Glen Limited Edition from Poland was Best Opposite. Hammersmolles Star Hercules was the Best Junior and Spirit of Ireland Beautiful was the Best Veteran. In Finland Lahti puppy show saw Gleann Kooky Kanye take Best of Breed with BOS to Gleann Kinda Kim K. At Birmingham Gundog & Terrier Jeonty Letty Be Magic was BOB.

Over in America Keadeen’s Sir Emmet Mingus Glas was in Illinois for the Prarieland Classic and had a very nice trip. Best of Breed at Champaign Illinois KC, Mattoon KC & Sandemac with a Gp3 at Champaign. Opposite To him was Kilkenny’s Across The Universe to Setanta, Abberann Learning To Fly at Glendalough and Abberann Black Velvet Band by Galore. He was Best Opposite though at Illinois Capitol KC when Black Velvet Band took the BOB ribbon for the ladies

Ginny (and Monique for writing) regularly keeps the “brains” section running. “Ginny qualified with a 1st place in Open Jumpers Preferred at the AKC Agility trial at Paws n Effect in CT. Then she had a perfect run, again 1st place, in the Novice Standard Preferred class for her 3rd Q and her NAP title! Woohoo! It’s been a couple of good agility w/ends for team Ginny!”

Discover Dogs was in London and, as always, the enthusiasts who man these booths, whatever part of the world they are in deserve our thanks. Bella, Candy, Dylan, Leia & Mutley flew the flag proudly in front of hundreds of people. Many thanks to them and their people!

Great weekend folks.

Did you see…….

There was a lot of other activity beside the breed ring at Crufts. Up in Discover Dogs did you see Flynn, Alfie, Digby, Dylan, Muttley, Poppy, Misty & Finn? They all helped fly the flag for Glen of Imaal Terriers in hectic Hall 3. Were you at the Vulnerable Breeds Final and saw Brogan (Top Glen last year) most ably strutting his stuff?

Were you at home watching it via the television and wish for more Glen coverage? If you were in the Midlands you’d have seen Basil doing us all remarkably well on BBC Birmingham. Even the Crufts own ad hoc shots of the show managed to feature a Glen as Dylan studied the camera and a passing shot of Muttley waiting for customers on Discover Dogs. If anything has been missed do let us know!

It’s Crufts week already

Possibly the big majority of Glen of Imaal Terrier owner’s thoughts turn to Crufts this week; well they certainly do if they are exhibiting, manning Discover Dogs or in reach of the National Exhibition Centre. We’ll try, over the next few days, to put everything on here that you’ll need to (hopefully) make the day go a little easier.

Glens (26 entered) are on Friday and can be found in Ring 6, Hall 1. They are second in the ring after Welsh Terriers so not quite such an early start as it could be. Welsh (39 entered) have an 8.30am start so Glens should hopefully make the ring by late morning rather than the after lunch slot. Glens can be seen everyday of Crufts in Discover Dogs in booth T13 and if you’re at the NEC on Saturday don’t forget to go to The Arena at 18.25 to cheer Golden Spur on in the final of the Vulnerable Breeds Competition.

There will be a lot of television coverage of the show and live streaming on YouTube

Let’s hear it for Glen of Imaal Terriers

Glen of Imaal Terriers are on a roll at the moment. In the end it was nine group placements for the breed last weekend and it’s continuing on.

First call out must go to Abberann Phelan who is spreading the “Glen Gospel” in Canada with a Group 3, group 2, two Group 1s and a Reserve Best In Show. In the States Kilkenny’s Across The Universe at Setanta was having a ball as well with a Group 3 at Mattoon Kennel Club and a Group 2 at Sandemac KC. Abberann Torcan was Best Opposite both days. Across The Universe was also BOB at Illinois Capitol Kennel Club with Abberann The Lion King Best Dog. Not a bad weekend at all for the US arm of Abberann! Over in Washington State Keadeen’s Second Star To The Right was repeating her Montgomery success with a Group 1 & 2

Glen folk continually celebrate the power of the Veterans and at Birmingham Gundog & Terrier 11 year old Johnny Be Good at Romainville was Best of Breed. Best Bitch and Best Puppy was Jeonty Jyn a New Hope. Discover Dogs was on in London and the Glen booth was busy, busy, busy for both days. Appreciation to the dogs and people who flew the flag there and they were Sean Percy and Lesley with Leia, Geraldine & Alan Statham Cook with Misty, Lynne, Gordon & Katey Fraser with Dylan, Sarah Henson with TinTin and Gabriel (who was an honorary Glen for the day), the Locke family with Fina and Nicki Montford who was main supporter and assistant.

The brains side of the breed is also doing well with Ginny earning her AKC Scent Work Exterior Novice title in Maine on Saturday and something totally new to report. Keadeen’s Darling Violet earning her CGCA. This is an AKC Community Canine test, does the breed have anymore?

Congratulations everybody.

A couple of days on…

For many Glen of Imaal Terrier people Crufts began and finished last Thursday but for the stalwarts of Discover Dogs their show finished yesterday so let’s give acknowledgement and thanks to:

Alan and Geraldine Cook with Misty. Nicki & Richard Montford with Muttley. Jane Alstead with Poppy

Lynne & Gordon Fraser with Dylan. Tony &Teresa Hadley with Inga & Gill. Jeanette & Alison Penny with Digby

Diane &Phillip James with Dolly. Sally & Alan Barnaby with Murfi. Danielle and Alfie

Hopefully by now the long distance travellers are well on the way home. Germany, Finland & America were there in the ring, it was great to see you all and thanks for coming.

Glens managed to get around and get noticed. Anne Hardy was in the Daily Mail on Line and Central News had a picture of Peter Purves walking around….as he passed the Glen ring. The nearby KC Activity ring needed volunteers on Friday so Tony & Gil were demonstrated on. Basil went international on behalf of Glens with a quick appearance on CBS San Diego

A lovely piece on You Tube with Emily & Bella, with Jo positively bubbling over.

Wendy Tobijanski hadn’t entered Rex with having a positive ruck of Cesky to get ready for the breed’s awarding of their first CCs. All her work obviously paid off as there she was in the Terrier Group ring. Also Tim Harrison, the judge of the Championship Show last December, was there in the Gundog Group with his main breed of Welsh Springer Spaniels. If anybody else has anything else to report just send it along.

Glen of Imaal Terriers-Crufts 2017 and live streaming!

The biggest number of Glen of Imaal Terriers (37) can be seen tomorrow-Thursday-in Hall 1, Ring 6. They are third in the ring but will be on their benches before that for people to say hello. Friday will see the Vulnerable Breeds Competition and Romainville Billy Whizz will be flying the flag for Glens.

Discover Dogs will have Glens there all four days. Booth T13 is where they can be found. Why not go and have a photo taken. Alternatively if you like to watch things from the comfort of your own home a video has turned up that was unknown to nearly all Glen people. You Tube has Crufts 1988 and just before12 minutes in Mike Stockman is talking to Angela Rippon about Malsville Moddy Blue of Farni-Blue is there in all her glory.(Great find Nicki)

There will be live streaming from the main arena so Billy will be able to be seen on Friday and the Glen representative in the Terrier Group on Thursday.
